Maudie's is like the beloved abuela of Austin, feeding her ninos way too much food and shouting "escuchame!" over the dinner table, shushing us for prayers. This is all to say it's been here forever, our Maudie's, and we never tire of her or her Queso Diablo -- queso tinged with spicy jalapenos. It's the best way to wake you up out of a dreary hangover (but don't tell Abuela Maudie).
Great service & atmosphere, food just so-so a little disappointing – We visited the W. 7th street location for late brunch. Although the service was very friendly and more than accomodating, we couldn't help but be a little disppointed. We have found many of these reviews to be on the money; however this time we have to disageee. The food was on the bland side and needed to be kicked up a notch. The food also took along time even though the place wasn't even cloise to being 1/2 full (the staff was still attentive though).
Austins diner had better breakfast taco's and Chuy's had a better lunch menu. We will most likely return to give it a 2nd shot and try other items due to the location & service, but we won't be in a hurry to do so.
Great Food, Amazing Service to the Gluten Free Crowd – I've tried most of the Maudies locations and consistently found their food and service to be outstanding. As someone with Celiac Disease who has to avoid wheat/gluten, I have found their servers and managers eager to help me find which menu items avoid these ingredients.
I didn't think it was possible for my opinion of Maudie's to improve any more. But last week they were a sponsor of the 2006 Moonlight Margarita run benefiting the town lake trail foundation. Maudies catered the party afterwards and were able to provide a meal of gluten free fajitas with corn tortillas despite having, oh, about several hundred other guests to feed all at once. I had sent them an email in advance and received instructions of who to contact once I arrived at their buffet line. It worked out amazingly well.
Kudos and sincere thanks to Maudies!
Good food, horrible service – Went to breakfast on a Saturday morning at this location (which was suprisingly not too crowded) after hearing how wonderful it was. We entered the door and were offered inside or outside seating -- we chose outside and were told to pick a table and someone would be right with us. After waiting 10 minutes, we had to go back in and remind them that we were there and still hadn't been helped. Someone then came and hastily took our order. When the food arrived, they brought us a double order of one of the items we ordered, only part of another order and failed to bring us water even after we asked for it twice (it was summer, come on people!). The waitress finally topped off our coffee as we finished our meal, which by that point we had undoubtedly decided not to return. If you're going to have patio dining, assign a wait person to that section! The food and prices were good -- pity the service will keep us from coming again.
Crowds come out for salt-rimmed margaritas and salsa-spiked queso. – In Short
Decidedly strip mall, but with the added bonus of a shaded, fan-dominated patio. The parking lot usually contains both sleek BMWs and rattling pickups. Expect at least a 30-minute wait on most nights--it's worth it. The food's classic Tex-Mex: smooth-as-can-be queso and never-ending baskets of chips. Favorites include Ruth-Ann enchiladas, cheese enchiladas topped with carne guisada; and vegetarian fajitas with corn tortillas and sour cream.
AWESOME – Great Service, Incredible TexMex... Margaritas are awesome! This is a MUST TRY! My wife, usually very critical & particular, loved this place (As did I). We are going to make this a regular spot for us... Good Work Fellas!
bueno! – maudies rocks. the vegetarian fajitas (hold the serranos) are to die for. the queso is amazing and the service is always dependable.
want to blow the diet for the night? try rockin ruthann's! its the best!
Why Maudie's? – My entire family is HOOKED on Maudie's - Lake Austin Blvd. We had been dining at this location for a couple of months, when one night we were there and we rec'd a phone call that my grandmother had passed away. They quickly packaged up our order and sent us on our way at no charge! Now it's five years later and we are there almost every Friday night. We know the staff, they know us. GREAT customer service!!
Best breakfast tacos in town – Maudie's is authentic Tex-Mex food. Their breakfast tacos are THE best, whatever way you like them. This location is the most crowded of all Maudie's, so expect a 15-60 min wait on weekends for brunch.
The service at this location is also probably the best of all Maudie's, very speedy and attentive, great chips and salsa. Margaritas are very solid.
As of April 2005 they are in the process of expanding, which will about triple capacity, so wait times should come down as a result.
Very highly recommended for great value, casual brunches and awesome breakfast tacos.
The Best! – We had relatives visiting during the ACL festival, and they have never really experienced "REAL TEX MEX"! This place is definitely where you want to go. The staff is great, our wait for a table last all but 5 minutes (even on a FRIDAY!) Very impressive when you have a group of people who were extremely HUNGRY! Good food portions, great food at a great price, and great staff. Need I say more?
