"Bacon-wrapped jalapeño stuffed Texas quail." I'm pretty sure that anything I say after this point will be useless, because you'll already have risen up from your computer and driven yourself to Green Pastures to order this savory, tasty little bite. If you still need convincing, allow me to tell you about the "Texas Game Sampler" plate, which unites quail, venison, and wild boar together on one large platter, like a veritable buffet of woodland creatures.
Avoid ... Austin has too many true fine dining establishments ! – Prices are high for what you get and the menu is very limited. The place has a musty scent, with NO atmosphere. I heard that the place has been bought and sold - perhaps this is the reason for some of the problems they have. Probably a good venue for a luncheon when the average age of the guest is 75.
Flawless wedding reception with exceptional service – Last night I attended a family wedding reception at Green Pastures and was simply amazed by the grounds, the staff, and the food. Id heard before that this was the place to go for a special evening, but it exceeded my expectations in every way. The entire experience was perfect. The restaurant is beautiful, inside and out, but also very comfortable. We were welcomed from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious; I enjoyed the grilled tofu with spinach along with an array of incredible appetizers. The service was exquisite, to the smallest detail. Our very attentive servers Herb, Ryan, and Vanessa made sure that every guest was pampered the entire night. They were efficient, friendly, and gracious the staff at Green Pastures is the best of the best.
I was the matron of honor in the wedding party; thanks to everyone at Green Pastures, I was able to relax and enjoy the evening instead of worrying over every detail. The event was fantastic from start to finish. I highly recommend Green Pastures to any couple seeking an elegant yet welcoming site for their reception you will not be disappointed. The grounds are perfect for photographs, and the food and atmosphere are superb. Green Pastures exemplifies Southern hospitality at its very best!
A genteel Old South dining room serves nouveau continental cuisine. – In Short
Occupying the circa-1894 childhood home of humorist John Henry Faulk, Green Pastures retains the charm of an earlier era. The subdued interior is elegant and old-fashioned, with carved fireplaces, antique furniture and long, sweeping drapes at the tall windows. Large live oaks, shrubs and flowers dominate the grounds, which are home to a family of peacocks. The menu is continental, with nouvelle twists thrown in, making it a popular lunch and dinner stop.
WEDDING EXPERIENCE – Beautiful location and very convienent to downtown - perfectly manicured grounds. Over all, there were a few issues but they were acknowledged and taken care of by the GM.
wonderful but $$$$$$ not $ – A wonderful dining experience especially for a special occassion, but this place is EXPENSIVE! Do not be fooled by the one $ sign.
Best Valentine's Day of my Life! – My new fiance' and I went to Green Pastures for Valentine's Day, and it was so romantic. The table was beautifully decorated with a single rose and candle, and the lights were dimmed for a romantic ambiance. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was wonderful! My fiance' proposed to me that night, and had set up a special request to have champagne brought to our table. I will never forget that night, and we will be comming back to Green Pastures every Valentine's Day from here on out.
Fair at best – My husband and I take pleasure in fine dining and gourmet restaurants. After reading the reviews I decided to try Green Pastures. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a TRUE fine dining experience, try somewhere else. First, there was no valet. Next, the hostess was helpful, however, we were sat in a large, open banquet room...not at all romantic. We waited at least five minutes before anyone came to our table, and that was just to give us water. My husband and I sat there at least another five minutes before the waitress finally greeted us. She gave us the set menu to review and left (without even taking our drink orders.) After we finally ordered the food arrived and was very bland-compare it to a hotel restaurant, or Luby's. $200.00 later, we left the restaurant extremely disappointed. This restaurant lacked the fundamentals of fine dining: exceptional service and cuisine.
One well kept secret. – Short and sweet, Green Pastures is a very pleasant and tasteful dining experience. We went for our anniversary and were supprised to be the ONLY guests for the 3 hours we were there. An earlier reviewer commented about how boring their experience was, but I say it was PERFECT. The quite atmosphere (on a non-busy night) is perfect for conversation with someone whose company you enjoy. Plus, the service was terrific. I would have to say that if this is a great spot for that second or third date, or even better, that proposal! Plus, if you happen to be the only guests too earn some points with your date and tell her you rented the place! Wink-wink!
This is THE PLACE to go for a romantic dinner! – I have eaten in restraunts around the world and this place is up there in the top 10 place to dine. Excellent service, excellent food and greeat wine. The atmosphere is exceptional as well. This is a good place to do a marriage proposal - A friend of mine did that here in fact. The rooms are small enough to be cozy and semi private. The building is a historic mansion and is just a thrill to see.
wow. WOW! – I just love this place. It is like going to an old mansion museum, except you get to eat and lounge around as long as you like, and you are treated like family. Many of the waiters seem like they've been here for years...definitely old school service, so you should come with the right attitude and be ready to be pampered. Brunch is wonderful and comes with free booze!(milk punch), though can be a little bit of a crowd. Dinner is better in my opinion, romantic, quiet, tiny dining rooms with only one or two other couples. In the winter the fireplace is nice for a photo.
