Reviews for Threadgills Restaurant

This classic Austin diner may be best known for giving the world Janis Joplin, who played there in her breakout years, but it also gave the world a gigantic, wonderful chicken fried steak with cream gravy, and plenty of other Texas classics.

Threadgills Restaurant

Threadgills is fab because its simply celebrates what Austin is all about--comfort food and great music. The Sunday brunch will make you feel like you're at moms house again, and I love all the neon light decor and vintage signs. A must stop if you're in the South Congress area.

Threadgill's is one of those Austin places that's been around so long that it bears repeating praise for the things it does right: Armadillo World Headquarters-crowd music, and, chicken. Chicken any way you want it: King Ranch, stuffed and blackened, chicken in liver format, and chicken breasts -- sometimes fried -- spilling out of enormous sandwiches that are all too easy to gorge on.

Tunes and tastes rich in local music flavor. – In Short
Both locations of this Austin favorite display beer signs and memorabilia from the famous Armadillo World Headquarters concert hall. The north location is where singer-songwriter Janis Joplin started her trip to fame. It still offers live music. Here you'll find Southern home cooking that would make your mother proud, such as chicken-fried steak, meat loaf and a huge veggie selection for herbivores. If one plate of food isn't enough, you get seconds of veggies free.

Worst Experience Ever – Saturday night our waitress told us they were "too busy" to add cheese to fries. No problem if they are unable to accomodate a request, but to be told they're "too busy" is insulting. When our waitress brought a kids chicken finger dinner instead of a chicken finger basket she told us "it's cheaper". The manager was unresponsive when told of the incident. We asked for our check and told him we'd pay for the appetizers, chicken fingers, and drinks. He asked us pay for our entrees, which were never delivered to us.

What happened to this place? – Used to live in Austin, husband born here, but had to move away for a few years. We just moved back and with anticipation visited our old haunt, Threadgills. Quality has bottomed! I almost cried! What happened to the variety of delicious breads...the portions have shrunk, the menu looks like it was cut in half, the staff was more interested in chatting with each other then their partrons, and the food was bland & lifeless. I don't know if the accountants or WHAT got to Eddie, but this place is a far cry from its former glory. Truly saddening.
