Nationally recognzed as one of the best bike shops in the country – In an athletic town like Austin, you figure there has to be an over the top shop where the "in the know" cyclists and triathletes get their gear. Now that I've gotten to know the city, it's obvious to me that this is the one, and I?ve come to find it?s one of the best in the country.

I moved to Austin in 2006, and I wanted to get a triathlon bike last year after doing a couple triathlons on my road bike. The only thing I knew is that the fit of the bike is as important or even more important than the model of bike.

I walked into all the shops in Austin, looking for a shop where the employees had hands on experience with all the things they sold. As soon as I walked into ATC, I had a feeling I found it - every employee looked like they had just showered after working out. The store has showers in the back and a pool that shoots water by (think tread mill for swimming, great if you want to try out the different wetsuits). And the shop is packed wall to wall with stuff, another positive sign

The owner spent literally hours setting up different bikes, swapping out parts, sending me out on test rides and using the video fit system to point out the details. And nobody tried to sell me a more expensive bike than I needed - in fact practically the opposite, suggesting I save the money to enter more races. Some of the preferences are only evident after being fatigued from riding for an hour on the road so I was encouraged to take my bike out for a couple of weeks, getting used to the setup, and then change whatever is needed based on real rides. Now my triathlon bike fits like an extension of my body and I love it. All those hours of fitting expertise using the video system were totally free (other shops charge hundreds!).

I found out later that I paid less than I would have paid on the internet, unexpected since a store with premiu service usually charges a premium - till you realize your money doesn't go towards shiny floors and elaborate displays.

customer service not up to par for the price you pay – Let me begin by saying that I am not an avid cyclist(Although I do ride at least 2 times a week) and have not had my bike tuned up in 5 yrs. With that said I had taken my bike to Austin Tri Cyclist for a tune up and mentioned that the back tire kept going flat( I know how to change a flat and put in a tube) but I thought there might be something else wrong( bent rim etc), and that it was shifting horribly. About sixty dollars later the bike looked clean of all its gunk and looked good as knew. In three days the back tire was flat again, and it still was shifting bad. I waited to see if the gears would work itself out and the tire, I just inflated every day until I could get it changed. The more I thought about it the more I got a little upset, so I decided to take it back and let them know the problems. They changed the tire, and added a new chain. Another $48 later it still does not shift and we will see about the tire. A friend of mine went down to the Bicycle Sport shop on Barton springs and Lamar for a tune up, the guy told him to wait 10 mins, adjusted the chain and the shifting mechanism, charged 15 dollars and it works like new. I will bring all my business there from now on. It may not be local( I don't know for sure) but I would rather give my busines to someone who has more customer service than to a local business that does not!
