A Lovely Time! – We had a delightful stay at Park Lane Guest House. The grounds were lovely, and I enjoyed working and relaxing by the beautiful small pool and under the huge live oak. We stayed two nights in the Vicky Cottage, a Texas Tiny House, and it was great! We had a very nice stereo for our CD's, a nice small "kitchenette" with a microwave, small refrigerator, and coffee maker, and a lovely small bath. The bed was very comfortable, but be aware that you will have to climb a ladder to reach the loft bed, so don't book this cottage if you are afraid of heights. We stayed the third night in the Florentine, which was a very comfortable room in the main house. The breakfasts were delicious! The first day we had a lovely sundried tomato omelette with fresh fruit; the second day we had indivdual white nectarine and blueberry "cobblers" served with vanilla yogurt, and the third day we had a delicious waffle with fresh fruit, real maple syrup (not the fake kind), and vanilla yogurt. We highly recommend the Park Lane Guest House and we have already booked a return visit for the next time we are in Austin on business.
Look carefully and then decide – We had a generally pleasant stay at Park Lane Guest House. We stayed in the Carraige House, which has a luxurious king size bed and was otherwise comfortable and attractive. A beautiful small pool was outside our door, and the owner was friendly. However, a few issues were: 1.) You have to look around to find the office at first (it isn't clearly marked). 2.) Breakfast is vegetarian, we got waffles and grapefruit, well-prepared; just don't be disappointed if there are no eggs, bacon or sausage. 3.) There is no door to the private bathroom in the Carraige House, just a curtain, so if you're having a romantic getaway, you'd better be comfortable enough with one another to be able to hear and ignore bathroom noises, and practice saying "I'm using the bathroom now, so don't look in". 4.) The clawfooted bathtub in the Carraige House is comfortable, but keep in mind that it is definitely not a tub for two. It has no shower; you have to use a hand-held attachment for that. 5.) There is an uncurtained skylight in the room, so be prepared for ample sunlight in the morning. 6.) The owner did not tell us at reservation time that there was noisy construction going on at a house directly next to the Carraige House. We noticed this to our dismay at afternoon check-in. Fortunately, we stayed out until late at night and the next morning was a major holiday, so we weren't bothered by it. Otherwise that would have been cause for a very negative review, so ask in advance whether any construction is going on in the neighborhood. All in all, it was pleasant, but a little expensive for what you get. $195 total for one night as described.
Disappointing, intrustive and rude owners – I was disappointed in my stay at Park Lane B&B and the owners were rude - We were looking SO forward to this weekend as the pictures and setting looked wonderful on the website. I didn't anticipate the discomfort I felt with the owners and my expectations were definantly not met. When we arrived and knocked on the front door we were met with a harsh "Go around back, the room is open". Door Closed! Negative vibes all the way through!
1)Although the cottage was beautifully decorated and our bedroom was lovely...big nice shower... the cottage was supposed to accommodate up to 4 people via a sleeper sofa in the living room. This was why we chose to stay here rather than another B&B or hotel...because 3 or 4 people could stay in one suite.... But the sleeper sofa was broken and unable to be used - we learned of this the first night we arrived when the owners demanded to make the bed and told us of the broken sofa bed....it collapsed during the night.
2)Breakfast - We were asked what time we'd like breakfast served. On the second day we were served 45 minutes late. We had a meeting and could not be late...because we had to leave we were not able to eat it - which was upsetting & unexpected
Intrusive owners. My biggest complaint. Owners came into the cottage with us there- even opening the door without knocking. Then during the daytime when we were out
I felt the owners were rude and I did not feel very comfortable. Got the message that going into the backyard where the lovely setting and pool was....which backed up to the owners patio, was not comfortable. It was expensive $400+ for two nights...and that was with a "discount" because they brought the meal in almost an hour late.
We love B&B's but we won't be back, even though the setting and home was lovely - it was not relaxing. Owner was blaming.called on my cell over and over until she said she finally "got my credit card to work"
disappointing, not worth the money and very unfriendly – We visited this guest house after finding it on a Bed and breakfast search web site. It is not at all the restful place it sounded. The inn keepers did not greet us or leave a letter of welcome. They were not ever available to ask questions of or to find assistance in finding restaurants, items in cottage so on.....I was very disappointed in this inn. It advertised a full gourmet breakfast but it was very simple and along the lines of toast, and a cheese omelet....the inn keepers were very unfriendly and seemed to be in a grouchy mood and breakfast didn't even arrive the last morning....We paid in full but didn't recieve all the services promised on the inn's web site and by phone.
I would not recommend this B&B and was very disappointed. I visited the Carriage house next door where a friend was staying and the smell in the accomadations were unpleasant and overwhelming.
It didn't smell clean.
At least the garden cottage was clean and didn't have a smell.
The shower was nice a double head plain shower like you would have at home but large.
