Long before seasonal food and on-site gardens became fashionable, this humble little restaurant was serving traditional food with flawless integrity. An Austin classic.

Love my Eastside Cafe! The brunch is divine, but the manicotti and acorn squash is always a delectable dinner option.

Eastside Cafe contributes to their menu with items from their own garden, and often that involves delicious vegetable soups, like gazpacho and chilled watermelon. The chicken mushroom soup and accompanying, crumbly cornbread make for a nice Fall lunch.

Eastside institution featuring locally grown ingredients. A little pricey, but you know you're getting good stuff. Check out garden in back.

A lovely breakfast – Upon entering the restaurant, i smelled the amazing aroma of pancakes and waffles. I saw many an eggs benedict and plates full of delicious migas on the way to our table. The layout of the house is so quaint and aesthetically pleasing, casual yet chic. I ordered a field green salad with grilled goat cheese, granny smith apples and homemade rasberry vinagarette...which was soo good. I also has a cup of veggie soup straight out of the garden and a jalepeno cheddar cornbread muffin...yummm. My father got a waffle, which was ok,,,but his cheese grits were delicious. A table close to ours got an order of french toast which turned out to be what i smelled when i first arrived...I know what ill be ordering next time. Love this place, plesent setting, music, people...highly recomended. Don't get the waffles, they were just ok, as waffles often are. I wouls recomend an eggs benedict, migas or the french toast...and cheese grits for sure.

4 stars ... barely 4 stars – While the food is really unique and delicious, I have had better for less money. Insert Buenos Aires Cafe here. The atmosphere is always lovely. It is super cozy and romantic. If you are lucky enough to have superb service, it can be a perfectly intimate, aphrodisiac kind of place (timing is important if you know what I mean). However, there have been times where the service was lacking - at least in relation to what I had experienced other times and in relation to what you would expect for the money. One of the things about EC is that their food is so, so fresh and much of it is made with herbs and vegetables they grow right there on site. EC as a whole is a rarity and a definite must.

WONDERFUL food! – Went there the first time a few weeks ago. Cozy old house experience! Our waitress was exceptional, the food was a delight for the senses, and the prices were reasonable. I can't wait to go back :)

Unique Find – I was in Austin overnight for business and Eastside had been recommended to a business associate as a nice place to eat near my hotel. Neither of us had eaten there before but the experience would definitely warrant a return visit and recommendation to others visiting Austin. The unique and eclectic menu should allow everyone to find something to meet their tastebuds. I particularly enjoyed the Shrimp and Goat Cheese Quesadillas as an appetizer. While practically everything we tried was very delicious, neither of us cared for the Stuffing, it was extremely bland and could have benefited greatly from a sauce or gravy. The wine list was also somewhat eclectic which allowed us to share a nice reasonably priced bottle. Since I travel a great deal it is nice to fine places like Eastside - a real joy after chain restuarants and room service.

Bad Customer Service – My family and I are always on the look out for restaurants to go, after Sunday morning service. I suggested Eastside Cafe, as we had visited this restaurant in the past, and found it to be a nice quaint place with wholesome food. This Sunday, I was greeted at the door as if I wanted something other than a nice place to eat. The greeter stated as my 13 yr old daughter and I entered with "how can we help ya'll", and she said this with such a disdain look on her face, as if I were an alien visting this planet.I was quite taken aback and did not quite understand her request and had to pause for a moment, and another lady obviously understood this greeters graff, asked how many in your party and I responded with 3, gave my name and left, but after speaking with my husband, we decided we would not go to this restaurant and I called back to the restaurant to complain about the situation and the manager on duty, actually got defensive and didn't quite "get it". We will not ever go to this establishment again and suggest all others if they are seeking a restaurant with great service to avoid this restaurant.

Awful service and food! Would not recommend. – I would not recommend this place especially for "special" occassions. Took a friend there for a birthday dinner - the appetizer was good but the main course left us disappointed. The salmon was dry, the stuffed shrimp had little flavor, and the green beans were overcooked. I have heard the salads are wonderful but since they forgot to bring us ours we can't comment. The desserts were brought to us in a bag, when I asked that they please bring my guest his with a candle. When I spoke to the hostess about this the only comment I got was - well I told your waitress. The service was horrible - we waited 20 minutes to get our bag dessert and then couldn't get our waitress to process our payment - we finally had to ask the hostess to process it for us so we could leave. I will not be going back and wouldn't recommend this to anyone who likes good food and service.

Best Valentines Day Dinner Ever! – Last night I took my girlfriend to the East Side Cafe and I couldn't have picked a better restaurant for this romantic holiday. We loved the atmosphere, the food was awesome and the staff was very friendly. Our waitress helped us pick a wine and was very helpful and attentive throughout our entire meal. I have to admit I played it on the safe side and ordered their sirloin meatloaf and my girlfriend ordered their pecan encrusted grilled chicken plate. My dish was excellent and the garlic mashed potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. Even though I hate pecans, I tried the pecan encrusted chicken and I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted. We capped off the night by watching Romeo and Juliet just down the road at The City Theatre on Airport. It was a perfect night! :-)

A nice date place – I took my girlfriend here because I had heard a lot about it. The restaurant has a very nice eclectic feel to it which carried on throughout. I strongly recommend making reservations (even for lunch/dinner on a weekday), because otherwise you might be waiting a good 30 minutes like I did. The wait may have been slightly long, but the waiting areas outside have a romantic feel to it. The ambiance of the restaurant was great and the staff was courteous and prompt. The wine list was better than many restaurants that I have been to, but by far from the best. The Salmon I had was good but I felt it needed something. The Cranberry Pork dish that my girlfriend had was great (of course for taste - to each his own). I thought the price was a little high, but considering the organic ingredients of everything I believe it is fair. Overall, I recommend this restaurant to those in Austin looking for a romantic place to go to (depending on how much you want to spend).
