China Star – My mother-in-law and I decided to go try China Star. We walked in and were seated, noone would get us a high chair. I ordered a sweet tea and my m-i-l ordered an unsweet tea. We asked for milk for my daughter and they were out so I got her water and it had black flakes in it. There was a large selection but everything we tasted was terrible!! It was either bland or gross. There were flies all over the place. At one point the waitress who had deserted us through the entire meal came to refill my drink and gave me unsweet tea and told me to use sugar. when we were getting the money together for the check she came over and stood over us jerking it out of our hands!! It was very awkward. I couldn't find anything that I liked about this restaurant and Needless to say I wont be back

Just Another Chinese Buffet Mill – If you're looking for a good Chinese place, I'd keep looking. I've been to China Star a few times because they're convenient and inexpensive (I always got the buffet to go), but I went in today, wanting to sit down and order off the menu. I have to say the staff is way more interested in cycling people in and out of the place ($$) than actually running a true restaurant. I was seated, and after my server brought me my iced tea, I sat there wondering where she was. Finally she comes around the corner and I'm still sitting there, looking at her expectantly. I ask for a menu and... no can do! Clearly, your only option at this place is to fix your own darn plate at the buffet. If I had known this was a buffet mill disguised as a "restaurant" I would have kept driving. So, at the end of the meal, I asked for a small to-go box for my egg roll and crab rangoons. No can do!! My server absolutely refused to bring me a to-go box, so the remaining food on my plate was completely wasted. I guess they figure I'm gonna sneak by the buffet on the way out and load up my to-go box...? I can see how they would not want to give to-go boxes for customers who make four trips to the buffet, but I had only made ONE trip to their buffet, and I PAID FOR THE FOOD ON MY PLATE. I can't see any reason to go back to China Star.

Worst Chinese Food EVER! – I love Chinese food - it is by far my favorite type of food. Having moved around A LOT, I've been fortunate enough to have sampled some amazing asian food and unfortunate enough to have come across restaurants that should frankly be closed because their food was so bad.

China Star is by far the worst chinese I have had in the city of Austin. First of all, there were only 3 varieties of chinese chicken dishes and 4 of beef. The majority of the buffet consisted of desserts, some sushi, and a huge salad bar. There was only shrimp fried rice, no chicken or pork. The Kung Pao chicken was more gristle than anything else, the two beef dished I had were flavorless (hot but no flavor) and the beef was rather slimy, the egg rolls had grayish mystery meat in them, and the battered chicken (with lemon or sweet/sour sauce) had 1/2 inch of batter that tasted like cardboard and very little meat. The cheese puffs were ok but rather small - however, chinese restaurants usually serve crab rangoon, not cheese puffs. The ice cream was all right (how can you mess that up?). The flan (which is a latin cuisine dessert, NOT chinese) was flavorless and looked like bad cubes of tofu with sauce on top. For the $8.99 per adult we paid, we left hungry because we couldn't swallow the food. We did not try any sushi, soup or crab legs, so those may be ok. We were there less than a 1/2 hour and left disgusted - we had fast food chicken on the way home! The place was crowded, the dishes still wet from the kitchen, and my daughter's water had little black floaties in it. The only upside was that we had a very friendly waiter who spoke spanish - obviously, he was not oriental. Overall, I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will never be stepping foot in this establishment again. Save your money - this place is expensive, not too clean, and the food is awful.
