Uncommonly Sub-normal Staff – So, I went into Pok-e-Jo's there on W. Parmer with a heck of an appetite and some friends and we were joshing eachother about who was hungrier. To prove my point, I ordered the full 4 meat plate which is the biggest on the menu. It is on the menu, so it's not like it should be a surprising thing to see somebody order. But all down the line from the staff I kept getting smart-alec remarks so as to suggest I was being gluttonous which to me was strange, seeing as how it was a barbecue place and what I was ordering was on the menu. Seriously, what kind of restaurant keeps staff on that would want to discourage people from buying food? The meat was okay but you can bet, Pok-e-Jo, the message was clear: you don't want my business....but Sam's does, and the Salt Lick, and Rudy's, and you know I could go on and on.
Great BBQ – Pok-e-Jo's has been one of my favorites for a while now. Their sauce is good. My favorite is the sausage. It is unique to them and quite spicy. Make sure you finish off your order with some of their banana pudding. This is good stuff folks.
Horrible service with immature help – Ordered food Round Rock location which had to be brought out. I finish my meal and when I'm done I go back and ask where the other plates are and well.. they forgot about them. The help was much busier huddled around talking than serving food. Will never go to again. Rudy's and SaltLick are much better and they actually care about customer service. No wonder the place was empty. That should be a clue I guess.
This Review is almost 3 years old. Changes in the staff and managers has made this one of the more popular Pok-e-Jo's in town. It is highy possible that this review was posted by an employee of Rudy's or Saltlick, I have proof that they do this often.
pretty good barbecue – I came on Sunday, November 19th with a friend to this restaurant in the afternoon. It wasn't too crowded. The staff was very polite and served us promptly. The food was good. The TV was on very loud, but most people were glued to it. There is little ambience here, but then, we are talking about barbecue. The price is not cheap, but you get value for your money. My friend liked the place better than I did, but I did like it. I do recommend the spicy sauce.
Real Texas barbecue served in a down-home atmosphere. – In Short
Red-checkered table cloths, country music playing in the background, and real wooden booths--can't get much more Texas than that. Pok-e-Jo's serves up smoky-flavored barbecue that keeps the carnivores coming back. The chicken, either half or a quarter, is crispy on the outside and simply amazing with the special Pok-e-Jo's hot sauce. Best of all, the lunch special--your choice of meat with two sides--is available for dinner as well.
Grrrrrrrrreat BBQ – I had the beef ribs, it was great meay, not able to finish it, the sauce was excellent..try the spicy sauce, friendly people, and great service. Excellent value for your $$$
It's all in the sauce... – Pok-e-joe's might get a bad rap here because it's a chain and all, but I swear they've got the best BBQ sauce in town. It's really tangy, a little sweet, and a little spicy. YUM! Their smoked meats are pretty good, and I'm particularly fond of the pork loin. The sides need a little help though - overcooked & nothing special. Always very friendly service at the Parmer location.
