Corporate JOKE on You – This is a review of the American Cleaners franchise of Austin, which is owned and operated by Ashok Someshwar.

American Cleaners, as well as Top Hat, is part of the Joash Enterprises Inc. You can expect the quality and service from these cleaners as if you are dealing with a corportate conglomerate that runs lean and mean.

After having had a bad experience with AC, I began to research the reviews on this company and discovered that Joash Enterprises consistently damages merchandise, looses items, and treats their customers very poorly. Apparently my unfortunate incident with AC is not unique as to how they operate this franchise.

I think it is important for fellow yelpers to realize who they are doing business with when walking into the American Cleaners and Top Hat locations. Below are some "at a glance" reviews of what you can expect when doing business with Joash Enterprises. I highly recommend you think twice before visiting any of these locations.

Worst Dry Cleaner Ever

By austintxrealtor - Nov 22, 2008

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Top Hat Dry Cleaners is aweful. They used to be really good for a while then they began going downhill. In the past 1-2 months, I have had 3 pieces of clothing come back either damaged or dirty, they don not ...

incompetent

By scholtes - - Mar 14, 2008

They ruined a black fake-fur bedcover. The tag said "dry clean only", but it appears to have been laundered and dried, and then sprayed with some sort of perfume. The deep, silky fur now looks like terrycloth. It also looks like ...

take no responsibility

By alliekatp79 - Apr 26, 2007

I took my down alternative machine washable comforter to the location on I-35 and Parmer. I wanted it laundered but was told it would be cheaper to dry clean it. So, I figured I'd save five bucks and the girl at the counter told me ...

Poor Customer Service

By urang4me - Apr 10, 2007

After being a long time customer of the Top Hat Cleaners on I-35 & Parmer (HEB shopping center), I had a bad experience today that I still can't believe. I dropped off my clothes at 9am because I needed same day service. ...

"The customer is always wrong"

By aflan - Jul 19, 2006

We will never go back to Top Hat Cleaners, which is a shame since they are in our neighborhood. They take no responsibility for items that they ruin. They ruined a top and two pairs of expensive pants, and refused to admit fault. ...

Lousy Service!!!

By hmrh - Sep 7, 2005

I brought my wedding dress to this establishment to be cleaned. When I asked how long it would take, the clerk stated 1 to 2 weeks. I came back 2 weeks later and the store clerk had no idea where my wedding dress was. ...

OK unless they damage things

By cschelltx - Jul 15, 2005

We used Top Hat for years. Their cleaning was fine, pretty much like all the rest. But if something is damaged, the owner of the company will not respond to calls and will not take care of the problem. It has been eight weeks since our ...

Horrible service & Shrunk my clothes!

By BostontoAustin - Jun 13, 2003

I have never experienced such horrible customer service before in Austin! My clothes were not ready at the time they promised and aside from this, they shrunk my clothes! After two re-do's, all I'm left with are clothes that I can't ...
