French fries with that curry? Indian food is the ticket at this venue with burgers and biryani. – The Scene
The large interior's wooden booths accommodate lunchtime crowds. Gracious staff explain ethnic ingredients to families plus individuals of all ages.

The Food

The vegetable samosa appetizer is a thick, flaky pastry crust encasing an Indian herb-vegetable mixture. Sweet, chili-infused tamarind dipping sauce provides a kick. The delicious chicken biryani consists of tender, richly flavored chicken pieces and yellow basmati rice with curry, saffron and cinnamon. The palak paneer with creamy spinach, homemade cheese cubes and onion has a smooth texture and rich flavor. Thick, fresh Indian bread plus refreshing yogurt-parsley sauce and tomato/onion salsa (think Indian-style pico de gallo) accompany many selections. Burgers aren't highly recommended (small patties, ordinary flavors). Try the savory onion rings and chili cheese fries instead.

Terrible – Airport Haven is the worst Indian food I have ever eaten. Maybe their hamburgers are good, but they need to drop the Indian part of their menu. It was very greasy and not flavorful, as Indian food should be. It is very cheap, but still too much for the quality of food you get.

Canned Ingredients – Airport Haven's lunch menu food was the worst waste of my money. The mixed vegetables looked and tasted as if they came straight from the can and the portions were child's sized. At first, the menu seemed to offer many sides to the lunch entree, but the kitchen didn't have any samosas, and the waitress didn't even mention it until I asked. The atmosphere was also upsetting -No music and a lingering ladie's bathroom smell.

Something Spicy – For a taste of something different this is the place to go. It blends the ordinary with the extordinary. They but an Indian twist on traditonal American food.

Good fresh cooked food – Stopped by twice in the last week, had good tasty food both times. The buffet seems to have been abandoned for the time-being. Tried beef kabobs and the chicken biryani. Both were good, the biryani had a nice spicy kick to it. The fresh Indian bread was wonderful, nice and warm. The dining room has the old hamburger restaurant feel to it. The building exterior looks like it's being updated. The staff were very friendly and helpful, you order when you come in, then sit down while they prepare the order. They just came out with a lunch menu, but I wish the menu had more descriptive explanations of each item.

Not a "10" – Reading the other reviews, one would think this was an outstanding restaurant. It is not. I stopped in for lunch once, and considered the buffet. The food bins were mostly empty, others had just a little in them, the dried remains of what had been left there for some time. I thought this was just a matter of timing, so I tried again, this time at around supper time...and the same experience. One might make allowances if the food were cheap, but it is not that either. The buffet plus drink will cost $9 per person. While the staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is not particularly clean and inviting. There are better places to go for a curry in Austin. Sorry, this place needs some work.
