If I could give negative stars, I would. My husband bought my wedding ring here. We went to the store together and I told the sales woman what I wanted (several times) pointed to a picture in a book she showed me and told her I wanted a particular ring with modifications. She said she understood (clearly she did not) and when I received my ring it was absolutely not what I asked for. We were told that my ring was non refundable and not even EXCHANGEABLE. I got in the car with this new ring I did not want and cried. My husband is a reasonable guy and tried working with them, but they were unwilling to do anything to help. Now I am stuck with an overpriced ring that I hate. I will never ever shop there again and will tell everyone I know to steer clear. Absolutely horrible experience.
Worst Service Ever! – My boyfriend and I went to Russell Korman to look at a Tacori ring that I had tried on in Houston and loved. It states that they sell Tacori on their website but upon arrival we found out that they no longer carry Tacori and just have older models they were trying to "get rid" of (the ring I had tried on was from their new line). While we were there the sales associate had made comments that we were, "looking to pass the time" and that we were "playing around". I thought it would be inappropriate to make a scene about what she said so I simply asked her if she knew where we could find Tacori in Austin. She said that she thought Americus carried it. We went there and found out she had sent us to a liquidation center. I was furious. I have never received such bad customer service.
This place is terrible...received a Rolex for a gift and brought it to my LOCAL Rolex dealer for a link removal and was told they would charge me?? I called the other two Rolex dealers in town and inquired about needing a local Rolex dealer to service my watch and remove a link. NO PROBLEM AND NO CHARGE I was told by both. This place is not a high customer service place you would expect them to have selling this type of product.
rude russell korman help – I took my Tag watch to RK to have a battery put in ( the watch is 21 yrs old and did not get it at RK) and the young woman and middle aged man I dealt with were rude beyond words. This was a few years ago and I gave it one more chance because they have nice gold earrings and I thought enough time had passed and I can forgive. Wrong. No doubt about it. Rude. Never again will I set foot in this place.And by the way the battery was 75.00 ! I have since found a dealer in Lakeway. Save yourself the stress. There are other jewelry stores with beautiful things and pleasant help.Because remember you rude salespeople... you are the help.
I LOVE MY RING! – I wanted to say thank you to Brooke at Russell Korman, for making my experience a terrific one. Russell Korman's went above & beyond to make sure that we got exactly what we wanted. We will be sure to recommend Brooke and Russell Kormans any chance we get!
Best jewelry store in Austin! – I hadn't worn my wedding ring for more than 10 years because it became too small. I was afraid to have it sized because it is 18K with baguettes around the band. Brooke connected me to their jeweler and I finally found someone I felt comfortable trusting my ring with. It was done quickly and it looks beautiful. I'm shocked by some of the other comments. RK has a great reputation and excellent service. They also have a wide range of affordable to stuff up to pieces I can only dream about! They carry a line of leather UT items that is out of this world. You won't be disappointed if you choose this store!
Nice store, good service – I've been in this store a couple times to have my Tag Heuer watch serviced. The staff has been very helpful. Each time I've entered the store, a salesperson has greeted me and asked if I need help. They removed links on my watch for free, and the saleswoman even showed me a few useful things about my watch that I wasn't aware of. (By the way, I did not purchase the watch in this store.)
On one occasion, after being helped with my watch, I browsed around looking at other jewelry, and not one but two different salespeople cheerfully asked if I'd like to see anything from the case.
Not sure why they're getting such a bad wrap here. Only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because I've never actually purchased jewelry here, so I don't quite feel qualified to review on the entire experience.
Shop here if you like getting “attitude” – I had ordered an extra link for my Omega Seamaster from Russell Korman by phone because there is now no authorized Omega dealer in St. Louis near my home. I was told it was back ordered and might be a few weeks. Since I knew I would be in Austin about then that seemed perfect.
I thought I'd stop in the store while in Austin and check them out even though I didn't expect the link to be in. Sure enough it wasn't and when I asked if they knew when it would be expected the young lady at the front counter went to the back. Another older gentleman walked 2 feet out of the back and informed me that perhaps I'd heard that there had been a volcanic eruption in Europe had interrupted flights from Switzerland and that it would be weeks more before disappearing into the back. What really got me was the condescending tone coming from this guy as if I lived in a cave in outer Mongolia and needed to have national news explained to me.
I continued to look at the fairly extensive array of watches while I was there but even though there was absolutely noone else in the store except myself, my wife and me daughter-in-law no one seemed interested in the slightest in conversing about the stock they had. Everytime I asked any kind of question of the young lady, she had to go to the back to get an answer. I quickly got the feeling they felt I was intruding on their time. I obliged them after a few minutes and removed my nuisance self from their store wondering if it was all in my head or if their service really did suck to the degree I thought it did.
We were barely out the door before my wife and D-I-L both begin commenting on the total lack of service and rude uppity attitude- no one offered any help to either of them even though they both were shopping there as well. Guess it wasn't just me.
I might add that all three of us are professionals and look it even though we were vacation dressed. There's few items in that store that I can't afford if I really wanted them.
I think next time I'll take my watch business to an authorized dealer in Chicago, they're certainly not interested in it at this store.
Worst Service, period – My fiance and I went to Russel Korman because we believe in supporting local businesses. After ordering and receiving a wedding band, I went to pick it up. To my surprise, the ring was covered in deep blemishes. This was supposed to be a simple, white gold band with no finish; let alone blemishes. I asked the woman if this was normal for such a simple ring and she informed me that I could expect it to be scratched up in the course of wearing, therefore I shouldn't care about the blemishes it came with. Really? I asked. I reminded her that I just spent $550 on this brand new ring and she rolled her eyes, and said she guessed they'd make it right. The jeweler came out and said that he could buff out the blemishes. I returned two days later to find my rind now had a nice set of brushwork scratches along it surface. Nice work people. The service was horrible, the product was doubtful and the overall professionalism was deplorable. FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DO NOT SPEND MONEY AT THIS STORE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Respect yourself, don't shop here – First of all, let me preface this by saying I have been a customer of Russell Korman Jewelry for about eight years. I value personal service and avoid ‘big box stores’ and chains, especially when it comes to jewelry. I have noticed an overall lack of personal service, and an abundance of gaudy jewelry and sports paraphernalia(!), at this store over the last couple of years, but I strive to give local businesses my money and am a loyal customer. Well, that all changed about three months ago:
My son was set to return from Iraq a few months ago, coincidentally the day after his 21st birthday, so I planned on buying him a fine watch to commemorate the two events. I set a budget of $1000, which is VERY high for my single-parent household, and went down to the store with my youngest son who is a special needs child and uses crutches (this will become important later in my review).
While looking over some watches with a salesperson, one of my son’s crutches became tangled in a rack of leather purses. He wasn’t in danger of falling or toppling the rack… he was just confused about how to get himself untangled. I rushed over and helped him get his crutch unstuck. He then started giggling… this is something he sometimes does when I dote on him and had nothing to do with the situation at hand. Two of the purses came off the rack in the process - they fell a total of maybe four inches from the bottom rung. I quickly replaced the purses and righted myself in time to see a middle-aged man in the doorway to the back of the store shaking his head, as if to say ‘I can’t believe this.’
Now let me stop to say this: there is NO mistaking my son’s disability. He is on crutches, has craniofacial deformity, and wears a bicycle helmet outside our house for his own safety. There was also no mistaking the fact that his reaction was aimed at my son. I asked the man, “Is there something wrong?” He shook his head again, pursed his lips, and went to the back of the store.
I asked the sales lady helping me, “Who was that man?” She informed me that it was the owner’s brother. I asked her if Korman lets members of the family visit the store to stare down customers for fun or if it was some managerial strategy I didn’t ‘get’ (I was livid at this point). She informed me that the middel-aged man and his wife actually run the store. That was all I needed to hear… I thanked her for her time and let her know that regardless of what that man has going in his life, regardless of who he thinks he is, my family will no longer spend a dime in that store. Once again, there was NO mistaking the look of annoyance on that man’s face and I’m far too proud to be scowled at by the one person who stands to benefit most from my business in that store.
