This cozy Rosedale bakery is a treat on weekends. The black gold cookie is the number sweet, but the tomato bacon quiche is the highlight of savory options.
A central Austin favorite, with pastries, breads, and more, all made from scratch, sans preservatives. The smell alone will send you to carb heaven.
If your hot chocolate tastes veer toward the light and frothy, this cup is for you: Upper Crust makes a mug that is cappuccino-like in consistency, and pairs nicely with a slice of their moist Lemon Buttermilk cake. Of course, their Black Gold cookie pairs nicely with anything, including a second portion of itself.
can you say super yummy breakfast? – I love this place. It's classy, quick and comfortable. Everything is delicious especially the marble cupcakes and breakfast pastries. The fresh and beautiful cakes are always a tempting treat. Mmmmm.
Great bakery. – This bakery has been a favorite of mine for years. I often show up when they open at 7am and drink the bottomless cup of coffee along with a yummy current scone. The staff is always friendly and there are always plenty of things to read (statesman, chronicle) while loitering. The lunch sandwiches are also very good and very nutritious. My fav is the turkey and provolone on whole wheat bread with red onions and sprouts. The bread is excellent (shock!) and the hibiscus iced tea is a winner. Always check the day old shelf for some of yesterdays best baked goods at half off!!!
No Doubt, Best Bakery In Town – As a professional baker here in Austin, I can say with all confidence that Upper Crust is the Best Bakery in Town!! Their execution with the pastries is top notch. Looking at the cakes and pastries you can tell nothing is frozen or prepared ahead of time. Their wares shine with freshness. If you have a love of artisan-baked goods made with pride, then you must visit Upper Crust!!
You'll want to try everything! – This is one of my favorite fast, casual lunch spots. They have savory soups, create-your-own sandwiches, salads, combos ... everything is pretty healthy and affordable (you can get a great lunch for about $6). Order at the counter and it's delivered to your table a few minutes later. Never had anything from the bakery that I didn't love. Try the "black gold" cookies if you want something decadent, and don't miss the cornbread if you want something heartier -- I don't know what they put in that recipe but it's fabulous.

The bakery's clientele is varied, and there's a relaxed atmosphere in the two rooms and among the outdoor seating. Feast on more than 12 croissant varieties--from sweet, doughy cinnamon rolls to savory turkey provolone. Venture in on Friday or Saturday for chocolate-raspberry brioche, or any day for fruit tartlettes. Lunch meals include egg salad with sprouts, vinegar and gazpacho (served seasonally). There's also mocha almond cake featuring chocolate-coffee filling and chocolate-covered espresso bean topping.
A bakery for lunch? Yep! – Great quiche! Friendly service. A little slow on a recent afternoon, but they probably schedule for a morning rush. Comfortable place - I like hanging out rather than taking to-go.
Sweet--but oh, all that cinnamon – The very best danish in the universe (fresh kiwi and strawberry are my favorites), and they make a fine currant scone. But what's with all the cinnamon? Cinnamon on a chocolate croissant? Mon dieu.
