A tad expensive, but with a sizable sushi menu, plenty of delicious Chinese classics (Westernized Chinese, but delicious all the same), and incredibly sweet service, Suzi's is a welcome staple in the North Shoal Creek area. Try the Walnut Chicken (breasts rolled and sauteed in a crunchy nut layer) for a filling dinner.
LOVE it. . . – I absolutely LOVE Suzi's China Grill! I have never ever had issue with the service or the food! I was actually going so often, that my server knew me by name and brought me comped egg rolls (which were not on the menu) as well as lettuce wraps! Most of the time I didn't even have to tell my waiter what I wanted, and as soon as we were seated, our drinks were already on the table without us asking, he would turn to me and say blah blah blah today? and my food would be out in no time!
All of the food was lovely and delicious and never cold. . .I always varied my time to visit, I had done early and late lunches, early and late suppers. . . I have never had a problem and I have been to every location Suzi had to offer.
I have ordered to go as well and all my orders were delicious, HOT and ready to go when i got there, whether it was ordered 5 min. ahead of time or 15 min, it was always HOT!
Now, for all the previous comments . . . .WHY would you go 15 min before closing time and expect the owner to be there. . .I could put money that it was not Suzi, and if you were a REGULAR patron you would know who Suzi is. . . plus, at 10pm you bring a party? of 8+ unannounced no reservations. . .and expect to have an abundance of food at your beckoning? ? I don't own a restaurant, but when it is close to closing time. . .things get put away, soups get tossed, that is just common knowledge. . .DUH.
Never going back! – I will never go back to any of their locations. I recently went with a group of friends at 10:15pm. We were greeted with open arms by someone I believe to be one of the owners, Suzie. That pretense of being welcomed quickly disappeared as we sat down and the waiter started to rush us along saying that the kitchen was closing very soon. Why pretend to welcome us in the first place when they obviously resented having to cook our meals and serve us? Just tell us the truth up front and we would have been very happy to go somewhere else. Many of the items on the menu were not available. When the food came, two of the tempura meals were cold, couldn't be eaten and were sent back. Of course the chef was gone so we were out of luck in getting any more food. By that time, we had all lost our appetite and couldn't get out of the place fast enough. The bartender / owner was full of nasty hostility as we waited to pay our bills. I have never experienced such unpleasantness coming from the owner of a restaurant.
I was in a party of 8 at Suzi's. From the minute we sat down they were trying to get us out the door. We got there about 15 minutes before their posted closing time. A couple in our party ordered 3 items plus sake. Only when the food was presented did the waiter tell them that one of the items wasn't available. The two remaining orders were plated on a single(!) plate and were cold when they should be served hot. The food was sent back. The waiter said the kitchen was now closed, the cook had left and no more food could be ordered. At that point we asked for to go containers and the bill. The couple's sake was on the bill. When asked that it to be removed, the waiter went to the owner in the back. We could hear his reply? "Tell them to come back here and talk to me!" What an unpleasant experience. I'll never go there again.
Terrible Dining Experience – If you are looking for a pleasant place to eat and converse after listening to a lovely classical music concert, this is not the place to go.
We were a church group of eight who arrived at the restaurant at around 10:15 pm. We were pleasantly greeted by a woman, probably Suzi, but that's where the pleasantries ended.
Our waiter set up the table, but with the clanking dishes and rushed order taking, it made me feel like they were more interested in closing up the restaurant than they were in serving their patrons. As the short evening progressed, that proved true. Many of the items that people in our group ordered were not available, so we had to order alternatives. The waiter even said to order everything now because the cook was going to leave.
When my pastor and his wife ordered their meal it was not served right and it was cold. They could not get another meal because the kitchen was closed. I felt so badly I couldn't eat any longer and suggested that we all leave. To add insult to injury, when my pastor asked to see the manager, the manager told the waiter to have the customer come to the manager, who was sitting at the bar joking it up with his buddies watching TV. In all my days eating at restaurants, managers are happy to come to the table to talk with their patrons to make things right. This was an insult, not to mention the tray of fortune cookies obsequiously left by the waiter when he handed us the bills.
We paid and left, and when we stepped outside, heard the lock of the door behind us.
Well, they got their wish of closing up early, and may be getting that wish fulfilled for many more evenings, because if you are looking for a nice place to eat and converse after 10 pm, this is not the place for you.
Terrible Service! Owner Rude! – This is to describe a very bad experience that my wife and I, accompanied by six other members of our church, have just had at Suzi's at Shoal Creek Blvd.
Everything that is said here can be verified by six other witnesses.
We were very nicely greeted by a lady who quickly proceeded to disappear from the restaurant. Was it Suzi?
Upon sitting down we were presented with two menus, one sushi, one Chinese. My wife and I ordered two unis, two sweet shrimp, and two plates of shrimp tempura. Eddie, the waiter, told me they no longer had uni and he would check about the sweet shrimp and come back to me right away.
He never did come back to tell us that they didn’t have any sweet shrimp.
When they were finally served to us, the waiter delivered one plate for the two of us, on which he said both orders were served. I told him that I resented not getting two plates for it. Since everybody at the table had their food, I didn't want the waiter to take more time in separating them.
Upon tasting the shrimp "tempura," both my wife and I found it to be cold.
Obviously, it had been deep fried much earlier.
I rejected the plate and asked the waiter, Eddie, whether he could find something quick that he could bring to me. To which he replied that he couldn't serve any food anymore because the kitchen was closed.
I find this to be outrageous. Not only did their sushi personnel leave, in spite of the fact that they presented us with a sushi menu, but when they served it cold, the had the audacity to say that there wasn't any more food.
I asked to speak to the owner. I walked up to the bar. A man behind the bar said to me in a sarcastic way that one of the clients at the bar was the owner of the restaurant. When I asked that men whether he was, he seemed very embarrassed. So, I reiterated my question to the bar person and he told me that he was the owner.
I resent this whole totally unacceptable scene.
I reiterated to him the complaint that I described above, to which he had no reply.
All of these outrages created a bad feeling in the whole gathering. No one wanted to spend any more time there. We asked for the check and for "to go" boxes.
I hoped that after the above outrages, they would at least have the decency to comp us for the two bottles of saki, which we drank on an empty stomach.
By the way, the second bottle of saki was half empty, which further demonstrates the gross hostility to which we were subjected.
We paid for the saki. Everybody else paid for their bill and we left.
While waiting for our check at the counter, the guy who claimed to be the owner stood there staring at me with hostility. We promise you to share this experience whenever possible in our surroundings.
Great Chinese Food, Horrible Sushi – I love their Macadamia Chicken and the Chinese food I've had there has been very good. Their sushi, however, was HORRIBLE. We didn't even finish it and that is really saying something for us as we are not sushi snobs. Definitely go there for the Chinese but definitely skip the sushi!
Sad Day for Chinese Food – I was searching for a new place for chinese food, boy was this a bad idea. No real taste and a no return for me.
Suzi's is okay! – I would recommend this place for lunch only! All lunch specials come with a dish, your choice of soup, egg roll or crab rangoon, and rice! Prices are fairly decent at lunch.
Ughh...not very good – Went with my boyfriend on a recent Friday night...we are not super picky eaters and we were disappointed by Suzi's. Tried to order steamed veggie dumplings and were told that it would take 20 minutes. So we ordered the fried spring rolls instead. They were decent, if a little greasy, so we were hopeful about our entrees.
-Shrimp with Basil sauce: seemed to be fresh ingredients, but the sauce was tar-like and overly salty. Kind of a turn-off.
-Sesame Chicken: I know, not very adventurous, but it's a good test of a Chinese restaurant's skill. Instead of the desired crispy and succulent, it came to us dense and dry. Also floating in a thick sauce that didn't seem to have much of a flavor except salty.
-Sauteed mixed veggies with tofu: we requested light sauce, but it came to us floating in overly salty sauce anyhow. Vegetables were edible (a bit overcooked), but I actually had to eject the tofu out! It had a weird, non-food flavor...or maybe it was unfresh.
Too expensive for low quality! I could give it another chance, but I'd rather go to Din Hoh (citysearch won't allow the real name for some reason) or even Pei Wei. At least the food is fresh and has flavor other than salt.
