Avoid! – We have really enjoyed eating at locations in other areas, so when we realized that there was still one in Austin, we went soon after. The food was awful, served cold and very, very salty. When I spoke with the manager, she was rude, and informed me that Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken fried Chicken are usually salty. Also, both were very over breaded, with little meat.

We actually tried eating here twice...perhaps thinking it was a bad night. The second time, it was another manager, but similar attitude, although the food was hot, it really didn't taste any better. Service was slow, at best. We really were suprised when our waiter assumed we wanted to tip over twenty dollars on a bill that was not quite thirty. We had to ask him for our change from a fifty. and then wait. And wait. And ask again.

Apparently, other people in the Austin area know better than we did. I noticed there were not many guests, even though we were eating at what would be normally be a busy time both times. Also...apparently, there used to be several other locations of the restaurant in the area, and this is the only one there now.

I'm not normally one to complain, but when I do, I expect some sort of validation from management. I am completely underwhelmed by the lack of customer service exhibited here, and will not be going back.

Excellent Service! Great Food! Pleasant atmosphere. – Don't miss out!! Go to the Black Eyed Pea...This restaurant must be under new management or something. The food is excellent, the service is exceptional, and the atmosphere is great. I went to this same restaurant about a year ago and thought I'd never be back. Everything was horrible. Nevertheless, I gave it another chance and was astonished at the changes. The entire restaurant seems to have undergone a massive renovation. Above all the service is some of the best that I received in Austin! We now visit the restaurant almost once a week.

Horrible – The WORST restaurant I have ever eaten at in my life. I ordered chicken tenders---and they were cooked with the tendons still intact. And they were raw. The meat was displayed as a slimy mess. And a rank odor was accompanied. The squash casserole was nothing special---it came full with some sort of "gritty" substance.

Others ordered chicken pie---and when the crust was bitten into, there was no filling!

And the management even offered to compensate for the meal---however, when the bill arrived there was nothing deducted from the price.

I will never eat here again and I hope nobody else has to endure this pain.

Tasty comfort food and down-home kitsch abound at this family-friendly chain. – In Short
The country kitsch decor at this national family chain may have been updated with sleek new table lamps and modern wall hangings, but what arrives at the glossy wood table is down-home and comfy. The crusty chicken-fried steak is smothered in thick, peppery cream gravy and can be paired with the restaurant's namesake vegetable dish. Sweet fruit cobblers, served in a bowl or cup with ice cream, are what Southern grandmas are famous for.

disappointed, for old people – lots of retirees. went on saturday at 7pm, half empty. not really a happening place. staff are ok but chili's and others are superior. i got some chicken casserole that was really skimpy on meat, that never makes me happy. companion and i left with no leftovers, maybe because the food wasnt tasty enough to warrant taking. meals seemed flavored with only salt, and too much of it. the food is homestyle kind of cooking, like something a mom with decent cooking skills could prepare. 27 dollars total for 2 people, neither costly nor cheap but no leftovers. my first and last visit. young ppl should just go elsewhere. but older ppl you may like this place. food needs additional seasoning besides salt
