Loved the S&G Fries! – I am from So CA who came to visit a friend of mine in Berkeley. With so many choices for lunch, we decided on Henry's. Both my friend and I have never eaten here. We learned that the place was just renovated and the chef is brand new. They've also changed their name to Henry's instead of Henry's Publick House. I don't blame them.

I liked the fact that you have a choice where to sit depending on your mood. The bigger room is of course the sports bar with new flat-panel TVs, bar and stools. The smaller room is a sunny room looking out into the street. The decor is elegant but not stiffling. There are some quirky touches such as a faux p0t leaf. After all, we're in Berkeley, right? Not to stereotype (ok, i will), but I can see how students would go the bar and the professors and grad students would go to the other room. Or vice-versa. Again, depending on one's mood.

We liked the food we ordered. My favorite was the S&G frites (Simon & Garfunkel fries, since it contains parsley, rosemary, sage and thyme..one of S&G's album names, for those too young to know). I would probably go back there and order those fries to-go everyday during the last days before going back to LA! The salad with the salmon was refreshing. The best part of course was the toffee dessert!

Since I am allergic to alcohol, I didn't order any but my friend did. She loved it although I didn't catch the name of the mixed drink. The only thing that I thought was odd was the shape of their capuccino cup. I am used to the swim-in-the-cup types. Theirs was a slender coffee cup half-filled with the espresso drink.

All in all, I enjoyed this restaurant. I felt like I could go Henry's and be rowdy and have fun with friends at the bar, or at other days have a nice brunch or lunch and eat at the sunny room by myself without feeling awkward. I guess that's what really clinched the 5 stars for me. Heck, I liked it so much I'll post another review on Yelp.

Editorial Review by Patrick Heig – This UC Berkeley sports pub has gone gastronomic; sophisticated pub grub with Carribean flavor make it a destination for food fans, too.

Just a hop, skip and cocktail olive's throw from campus, Berkeley's only gastropub embraces collegiate revelry--and a quality menu--as its credo. – Tucked inside the historic Hotel Durant, this revamped venture by boutique hotelier Joie de Vivre offers a more neighborly scene than its previous effort. Behind the bar, dashing wood shelves call to mind a library, and hold an exhaustive A to Z of booze the bartenders need a sliding ladder to reach. The crowd is a mixed lot--mostly locals and students looking to ease into the weekend or drink on game day. Hotel guests seem to prefer the parlor-esque dining room, which offers modernized gastropub fare--pasture raised jerk chicken, spaetzle and angry mac and cheese made with sambal olek, tomato and scallion, sticky toffee cake (all available at the bar as well)--in a hushed, starkly lit setting. It's ideal for business meetings or a late night dinner à deux.

Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Casual bar-restaurant caters to students and Hotel Durant guests with roughly 30 draft beers and breakfast, lunch and dinner food specials.

Get a Twofer – Henry's is populated mainly by professors and local area professionals most of the week. That all changes come Tuesday night when Henry's has Twofer Tuesdays or 2 drinks for the price of one. This draws out the college students looking for a cheap drink and by closing time there is little to no elbow room. But a good time is still had by all.
