We have frequented Carlos and Mickey's since we arrived in El Paso 8 yrs ago. Whatever you change, DO NOT change the Margaritas - best in the WORLD! Meanwhile, as of late, we have noticed less meat in our entrees, such as Sombrero Salad and also "lettuce fillers" added to the side of guacamole which comes w fajitas. Our party thought for approx. $15.00, the guac side should not have lettuce under it! On another note, the last 2-3 visits, the music (which is wonderful) was sooooooo loud, it was DEAFENING!!! So what is the recent point of THAT??? Had to leave the bar area, along with others we did not even know - for THAT reason! Another time, a happy hour - we could not hear ourselves think, let alone have any conversation as the music was WAAAAY too LOUD! Please, just turn it down "some" - not a lot! - not off! .... just down some please.
Carlos N Mickeys is the first that comes to many El Pasoans' minds when thinking of a traditional place to take friends for a Margarita. The Margarita's are still large but no longer unique.
For the dated atmosphere (which feels unfashionably grungy), the poor service, and the average margarita's this establishment no longer lives up to it's reputation.
I recommend Julio's Cafe Corona or Barrigas Restaurant
what's the big deal? – I've been to this restaurant several times and have not been satisfied with anything. The food is average and the wait staff is a bit slow (on all levels). Even the sopaipillas were "Americanized". I know that people like to go and hang out at the bar, but I think you're better off somewhere else.
Great ambiance and drinks, blah food – This is a beautiful place. The decor is just what you're looking for when you go out to a Mexican restaurant. Nice patio section, too. Service quality is variable, but the Margaritas are always good. The main problem with this place is that the food is very bland - looks Mexican, but doesn't taste Mexican. Usually crowded, but nobody goes there for the food. Eat somewhere else and then go to Mickey's for the drinks and ambiance!
LOVE IT ! We go Once a week! – This place is sooooo good! First of all imdarealt wrote a false review! Your waiter doesn't bring your chips and salsa. They have a chips and salsa guy and thats all he does! Second they don't have Chicken enchiladas they only have cheese! If you want chicken you have to order that separetly. Enchiladas come in a combo meal that are only cheese! You should have read the menu! Also he made a comment that the food is not Mexican when is truely is! Maybe he is use to "mexican" like Taco Cabana which is americanized!! But you can't get better Mexican food then this! The beef is SHREDDED BEEF! not ground beef! Like most Mexican resturants!
The resturant is very large and gets very busy! When me and my husband go our bill has NEVER been over $50.00 which includes an app to share each person meal and 2 Regular size flavored Margritas each.
It makes me so mad when there are bad reports on this resturant! Their food drinks and service is WONDERFUL! I never had a bad experience!
best margaritas verses bad food – we went with a friend of ours and had a bad experience there with there food it wasnt the best not only that they didnt have vey much to choose from.the wait was very long...and when they seated you they practically were rushing you to pay..to get you out of there.there bathrooms oh my god i almost fell with the boards they have laying on the floors come on now if they get that many people in there they should be able to afford to fix them.hopefully who ever reads my review has a better experience..
Not special anymore – Visited on Nov 06, 2008. They lost most of their flavor and taste. Food is average, service slightly below, waiters did not pay attention to orders, brought wrong dinners, had to reorder, drinks were flavorless too much water in it.
All-in-all not a place to go for a nice Dinner out.
THE WORST MEXICAN FOOD EVER. – I took my wife and a friend of ours there, it was all of our first time there on Aug 30, 2008 and I treated .After the wait and the poor service we were seated at a dirty wet table that had just been poorly wiped down. We had to wait for the waiter to take our drink orders and bring the chips and salsa for about 15 minutes and the place were not very busy at this time the employees were complaining to each other and seating customers at the wrong tables you should not get table 11 mixed up with 16 that was us. Anyway we finally got our drinks and the chips and salsa came later, so we ordered appetizers and the appetizers came at the same time our main meal came I hated the tacos, the meat is like roast beef shredded and the chickn tacos were very dry & the rice is just cheap plain old white rice and dry. My wife had some enchiladas that were suppose to have chicken in them but it was only cheese, our friend ordered some enchiladas and some tacos and he did not finish his meal, we all complained to each other in the car. We all had the same feelings and it was a BAD experience. I will not ever go back to that place again that food is not mexican and the service was poor, the next day we went to Taco Cabana the food and the service was MUCH better than Carlos and Mickey's. I spent $61.00 at that place for a bad experience. If you read this and decide to go I just hope you have better luck than we had at that place, and I hope you like dry shredded roast beef in your tacos and enchiladas and dry chunky chicken pieces and cheap white rice on the side...............HIGHLY DISSAPOINTED.
IT JUST TO BE PRETTY GOOD – SINCE THEY HAVE SO MUCH POPULARITY THEY HAVE LOST A LOT OF TASTE, SERVICE, VALUE AND QUALITY OF FOOD, I JUST DONT GO AT ALL.
Terrific food, good prices, wonderful ambience! – We love this place! The servers are kind of Old World, which gives it a nice touch. The beautiful surroundings create an environment that is most enjoyable and comfortable. The menu includes a wide variety of Mexican specials, along with American selections, and an extensive choice of spirits (try the Margaritas!). We especially love the green chile enchiladas! Expect a wait on the weekends, but it's well worth it.
