Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.
Dissapointed first time patrons – Against our normal eating-out habits, we decided to try the Outback for the first time. We usually stick to our choice of our favorite restaurant for steak, which is Logans. But we wanted something new. We were extremely dissapointed with the food. The only saving grace was the server Russ; he was funny, congenial, curteous, and attentive. Very nice guy.
My steak, the Outback sirloin 14oz, on the other hand was over cooked (I always order medium rare, always). Not my steak-it was well done, dry, and devoid of any substance to it. We have friends who like your food, but I was dissapointed. I mentioned it to Russ and he graciously offered to bring me another steak but I was hungry and resigned to chalk it up to experience. One positive point, the Manager also came over and I mentioned to him the steak was over cooked but I was already finishing and we were on short time. It was frustrating to pay over 65 dollars for a meal I did not enjoy. My only guess is the chef was having a bad day.
Again, kudos to our server, Russ, he made the entire episode bearable.
