Drop the name. – Food is good but the name could offend some of the anglo persuasion.
ok food, terrible service – The food was nothing fantastic.. it could be made at home with a little bit of work.. but I did enjoy it and might go back if it were not for the AWFUL service.
Mediocre Mexican food – I'll have to agree with the more recent reviews here. My husband and I tried this place and were very disappointed. I honestly don't know why it was so busy.
The food isn't awful, but I wouldn't call it good either.

Best part was the chips and salsa. – Boring, bland, microwave food. Had the chicken chimmichanga. Chicken tasted like it was fresh from the can.
Eh. Not terrible. Just not very good. – A coworker heard that I loved Mexican food, and recommended Guadalahonky's to me since I live on the South end of the valley. She had recently dined there for her birthday, and said it was great. My wife and I decided to stop there based on her review.
I should have remembered that this coworker often enjoys turkey and cheese on white with nothing else on it for lunch. The flavor combination of her topping-free sandwich perfectly describes the essence of Guadalahonky's - it is bland, boring, unremarkable, and generic. If you like places such as Su Casa and think frozen burritos with Pace Picante Sauce are the bomb, this place is for you.
The chips and salsa is exactly as many reviewers described: store-bought chips and watered-down pace with a few fresher vegetable chunks. I ate it, and it was okay, just not anything remarkable. I ordered the "Mucho Macho <citysearch doesn't allow the word starting with Honk and ending with ky> Plato," which consisted of a chile verde chimichanga and a chile relleno (both smothered with chile verde), a tamale and a cheese enchilada (both smothered w/Enchilada sauce), a beef taco, and rice with beans to fill in the gaps. The chile verde had good chunks of pork, but was not spicy in the least. The tamale was decent, but bland, and the enchilada sauce tasted canned and overly salted. The taco was good with shredded beef. The rice was terrible - just that awful flavor of bad wannabe mexican rice, but the beans were good. The chile relleno had delicious white mexican cheese filling, and was probably the best thing on there. The fixings included a tiny dollop of sour cream and an even smaller dollop of guacamole (you guessed it - boring guac).
My wife had a Navajo taco. Once again - just flat out boring. Very school-cafeteria.
The prices are on par with average mexican restaurants, but the food is below-average. Kids might dig it, but mexican food lovers will scoff - it's just not that good. If I suffered from frequent heartburn, didn't want to drive, and knew my kids wouldn't eat anything but Mac n' Cheese, I would visit this establishment. Otherwise, I would not make the effort. I am very unlikely to return until my tastebuds are dead and gone.
Sub Par Food, Service Was Decent – I drive past this restaurant everyday on my way to and from work and hadn't ever eaten there. Some friends of mine had gone there and said the food wasn't that great, but I still wanted to try it myself since I'm a big fan of Mexican food. After reading their website where they talk about their homemade salsa and their claim of being "Rated Utah's top Mexican Restaurant" my wife and I decided to give it a shot.
The decor was early 90s, and gave me the feeling of being in a cheap Tijuana restaurant (they have a big cartoon painting of a smiling donkey with sunglasses that's hideous). Bad Sign.
The chips and salsa were junk. The chips were obviously store bought tortilla chips; they looked and tasted like something you'd buy wholesale in a big bag from Costco. The "homemade" salsa was terrible. As a previous commenter mentioned, it tasted like Pace Picante. In fact, I'm about 95% positive that's exactly what it is and is probably being used as some sort of cost cutting measure. Who wants to go to a restaurant and eat stale store bought chips w/ Pace Picante? I don't even eat Pace at home because it's such a low quality salsa.
I ordered the chicken fajitas. I'm pretty sure my order sat under a heat lamp for a while because the cup of grated cheese they included was completely melted. They gave me a very tiny bit of guacamole so I really couldn't even say if that tasted decent or not. The rice was soggy and the beans were very dry, especially on top. They looked like beans that had been stored in a fridge/freezer overnight and reheated. The chicken seemed like it was good quality and it tasted fine. That's probably the only thing that was decent.
The service was fine but that doesn't make up for the sub par food. Overall, below average.
Bland Utah Mexican Food – I had to go there for a work function a few times and each time the food was just so bland. It tastes like they got the food from the grocery store, opened it and put it on a plate for you. I would not go back again unless I had to for work again. It is like most typical Utah Mexican Food places that just is very bland and people from Utah got used to the taste so they might like it, but someone that has lived around the US knows that this is not good Mexican food.
It's mexican... not impressive – After reading the info on the web site i decided to go there for lunch to try their "amazing" salsa. Well, as soon as we sat down and i noticed the cheap (and slightly stale) store bought chips i was skeptical. Sure enough, the salsa was not a great as touted. It basically tasted like Pace Picante with a little extra pepper and hot sauce. We ordered the 2 taco special with chicken filling. It was decent but nothing to rave about. Pretty bland for the most part. The beans were ok and the rice was forgettable. The only positives i have to say is that the service was adequate, the kids menu had a lot to choose from, and the tacos didnt seem to be very heavy and fattening. I wouldnt say i would be going out of my way to go there again. Coming from Arizona, this mexican food is sub par.
Blah!!! – My first time visiting this what you call a restaurant was on a Friday night after work. We got there around 5:40pm we finally got served around 6:45. I got full on the chips and salsa, one thing that was good on the food quality. The rest is like paying someone to serve you a burrito with refried beans from a can! Yuck! And they are expensive too for the what you call food that they somewhat serve.
Pretty good mexican – We usually go to Guad's on a week night since it isn't too far from our home & is relatively fast, so I can't speak for how crowded it is on the weekends, but we usually get great service & the food is pretty good. Some of the menu items are a little plain, but if you want spicy, get the spicy chicken fajita. My husband loves their chips (they are too thick for me). Also, they have the best fried ice cream in the city. Wow, it is amazing!!! Guad's is a fun place to go if you are looking for a relaxing evening, but I would recommend getting food recommendations from a friend before going.
