Fun but not – If you want to have a good time and be served while you are doing so, don't go to squatters. I've been there a few times and have been utterly disappointed. The waiters/waitresses are oblivious to their responsibilities. For instance, after returning from a trip (which was ten minutes ago) I'm still upset because the waitress somehow did not know that she was supposed to remove my plate after I was finished. Then I had to sit across from my sexy date for 30 minutes looking over a plate of food that was average at best. The only reason I didn't leave is because I had invested time already. Don't go to squatter (name isn't worth capitalizing) you'll be disappointed.
Best Pub Food I've Had in Years & Good Service Too! – Had the absolutely awesome Nitro Smoked Porter and followed up with the Captain Bastard Oatmeal Stout that was okay, but didn't live up to the porter.
For dinner I had the Squatter's Bourbon burger. It was one of the best burgers I've had in years. The beef they use was so flavorful it almost didn't need condiments. The patty was cooked exactly the way I requested and it was wrapped in a spent grain bun that took it to the next level. I had mine with the sweet potato fries that complimented the burger perfectly.
My wife had the Classic Burger and was just as thrilled with the flavor of the beef. Hers was also cooked just as she requested. She tried the garlic fries, which she didn't feel complimented the burger very well and next time she would opt for the plain steak fries.
The service was particularly good. My wife is a real water drinker and hates when her glass is dry. She never had to worry here. Every time the glass got about halfway down it was refilled.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the overall experience was absolutely fantastic. Just wish we lived close enough to make this a regular destination.
They kicked us out! – Last night @ Squatters downtown while at a non birthday birthday dinner one of the wait staff casually came by and announced to our party of 10 that we had 5 minutes until we had to leave because they had a private party coming in. They booted us out, didn't even have another option for us downstairs. Sorry that our party of 10 with a reserved table was not important. BOO SQUATTERS! You shouldn't have given us a table up there! Yes we had cashed out but most of us never even got the option of dessert and absolutely did not get the option to hang out and talk. We all spoke to the manager on duty and she was just casual about it all like it was a mild complaint about the food. Horrible!!! And the sad part is that the food was good. When we were kicked out there were still drinks on the table, no dessert menus were passed around and of course they waited until our tab was paid ($500-$600) before they gave us 5 minutes to get out. Never going there again!
Great atmosphere, good food, unimpressive service – I am a regular customer to Squatter's (about 3 times per month). I love how the place is set up and it is relaxing and comfortable.
The beer is awesome but the menu is limited for my taste, so I usually end up getting a Reuben and onion rings-which is fantastic! The menu does have a wide variety of things, but most of it doesn't spark my interest. Friends of mine have liked whatever they have ordered, though.
The service is kind of sad. If there are more than thrity people in the restaurant, expect to wait 5-10 minutes just for someone to come take your drink orders. It is like they are constantly understaffed or something. When the restaurant is not busy, the servers are quick, friendly, and will chat with you.
Good Beer – I like this place. The food is a little over priced but the beer is worth the stop in!
Decent beer, lousy food, lousy service – After being ignored by the hostess for 5 minutes, we sat down to dinner. I ordered the bourbon burger, but was disappointed with the quality- a processed, pre-made and frozen patty with a cheddar single and a dry bun. There was no bourbon flavor in the burger at all, and it was a low-medium quality burger at best. The steak fries were mushy and cold, but edible with enough salt and pepper.
Service was poor, but that may be because it was fairly busy that night, being at the end of the Sundance Film Festival. The beer is good, but other local brewpubs (Redrock and Bohemian) have better beer and excellent food for the same price.
Spotty Food Poor Service – My husband and I frequent Squatters fairly regularly. Or, I should say we used to. I enjoy their turkey burgers. When they are done correctly, they are flavorful and incredible juicy. I generally choose the side salad rather than fries (fries are bland, even the garlic fries.) They ALWAYS insist on plating the salad with the burger. This would not be a problem if the salad were not sitting underneath the heat lamp until it is hot, wilted, and disgusting.
Service - the service is poor and unattentive. I cannot tell you how many times we just have our menus thrown down at us while our waitstaff sips on her drink behind the bar. We can sit and gaze longingly at our food under the heat lamp while the wings become soft and lukewarm, or our sald become nice and warm.
The hostesses and the wait staff are not concerned with customer service. And apparently as the service continually slides downhill, neither does management. I like the food and the location but the spotty quality and horrible service make it a difficult recommend.
Terrible Food Terrible Service – A bad food night. My friends said their hamburgers were pallatable, but the rest of the meal was a total disaster. The food is bland, and uninspiring. I couldn't eat the pathetic artichoke dip- heavy cream served with very stale bread. The order was wrong, for everyone at the table. A true disaster of an evening.
So bad, I didn't bother saying anything to the manager because there is no way this resturaunt can redeem itself. I will never go back.
Bad service swayed my opinion in the red for an otherwise nice place. – Squatters was the restaurant we wound up in during our first two visits to Salt Lake City while house hunting. On our first visit we waited in the foyer for probably three or four minutes before someone acknowledged us and took us to a seat. Not a long time, but we were the only people there. The host was just chatting with other employees. After we were at the table the service was pretty slow. I'm usually pretty patient, but this was disappointing. Though our first visit revealed poor customer service, we believed it would be a isolated incident and returned to Squatters on our second visit when it was convenient to our location for lunch. Our second visit to Squatters, probably three weeks later, we again waited several minutes while a different host yapped it up with other employees, ignoring us waiting to be seated. This time, once we were at the table, NO ONE came to offer us ANYTHING for ten minutes (yes I really timed it). We wound up walking out and no one even realized we had left. It was as if we were invisible. I was disappointed and it greatly influenced our take on the people of Salt Lake City. The food we received on our first visit was not bad at all. A slightly original take on American, "casual dining" / bar food. We liked the food, but the service was terrible. They were not really busy. We visited on a weekday night and again for lunch. Though several people love Squatters, I'm thoroughly turned off by their apparently very poor management / customer service. I don't expect special treatment, but I'd at least like to be treated with basic respect. I would not recommend Squatters and will not return.
Yummy beer good food – Squatter's has some good beer. And the food's not bad either. I ordered the fish and chips off their late night menu a few weeks ago. They were flaky and good. My friend got the calamari appetizer. It was big enough that he kept it as a meal. Squatter's is a good place to go for beer and pub food.
