Shut down by Local Authorities – This business was finally shut down! The photograph is not representative of the decor, lighting, etc. The building was dark and had a dirty feel to it. One of the staff members confided in me after several years that she would place unwanted bodily objects in the food if she did not like a customer.

If they do ever reopen (Heaven forbid!), please be careful. This business is a stain on the community.

I am a big fan of Russian fare, and do recommend the other Russian restaurant on Fort Union (Little Russia).

Na vkus i tsvyet, tovarishchei nyet. – That's Russian for "In matters of taste and color, there are no friends" basically meaning "to each his own". While I have no doubt that some Russian natives may like the rib-stickin' homecooking of this place, this Uah boy felt it was somewhat wanting. I've eaten Eastern European cuisine before, gotten a taste for borscht, kasha, pirogis and all that, but Rasputin Restaurant's take on food was just about as austere and sinister as the gaze of the demented old monk himself. I ordered "gowomki" (mean's "pidgeon" - how appetizing!) because its one of my favorite Ruso-Polish dishes. What I received was something that was boiled to death and swimming in what might only be described as really watered down Campbells soup. Needless to say, not the Gowomki I was used to. And just so you know I had a cultural control variable during my dining experience there, my wife (Polish born and raised in Warsaw) who is very familiar with all this food thanks to Papa Stalin's grip on her homeland back in the bad old days, said she was far from impressed too. Oh well. The service was OK, a very nice man took our order. But someone I can only imagine was his mother or grandmother was glaring at us from the entrance way. At times I wasn't sure if I should wave and smile, or high tail it out of there. On the plus side, its excellent Soviet era decore. Lots of Lenin memorabilia makes you think you're taking a break from the working a Moscow factory during the Cold War. We need a restaraunt with this cuisine in Salt Lake, but unfortunately, I don't think Rasputin's rises to the bar.

Authentic Russian – As a Russian-American, I miss the food from my homeland. Well, I can honestly say that while eating here, I didn't miss it at all! It was just like being in my grandmother's kitchen. I got the chicken & rice soup and pehlmeni, my husband got the stuffed peppers. Both were fabulous.

It's much like a soviet cafe. Not terribly trendy, but satifying, and a place that I would be coming back to.

Parking was pretty crowded when we went there (they were having a birthday party) so we parked across the street at Smith's. Other than that, it was great!

Great Food! Lousy Service. – Other than taking 2 hours to bring out our meal the food was most excellent.

We had to pay with cash he stated that he doesn't accept credit cards but we saw the credit card machine in the back. Kind of shady.

The food was made from scratch and very fresh. The soups and appetizers were amazing.

What a great restaurant!!! – I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Rasputin. The food was delicious ( I HIGHLY recommend the borscht) and the atmosphere is great! The owner was very personable and really made us feel at home. I would recommend Rasputin's to anyone!

Not a good value – I ordered the cabbage rolls W/ the beef and potato soup. My wife ordered the meat dumplings W/ a green salad. My soup was a broth loaded with oregano, large pieces of potato and small but tender beef. I am not a expert in Russian food but thought this was a good begining. The salad was not only room temp but hot (the restaurant has no air conditioning). the entrees were the big disapointment. Both though not "bad" had no flavor, no appealing texture, and no attempt at presentation. I felt for what we recieved it wasn't a good value. I would not recomend

Ben Labrum – I think this restaraunt is the best! I have eaten there many times and am very pleased with the service and the prices. The owners are from Ukraine, which makes them very knowlage able in the food they make. They also play Russian music, and you can buy the music and even movies in Russian.

A neighborhood spot where you'll find hearty, homespun Russian specialties. – The Scene
Large scarves adorn blue walls, a cuckoo clock plays classical music on the hour, oversized plastic plants abound. Dowdy comes to mind. But the hospitable host ensures that you feel welcome, while Russian music plays softly in the background.

The Food
This is ethnic comfort food at its finest. Begin with the marinated mushrooms, red caviar, or cold smoked salmon. Then choose the borscht--a flavorful blend of beets, cabbage, and other vegetables topped with sour cream--to accompany your entrée. For the main course, you might like the pork loin stuffed with garlic and mushrooms; it's fork tender. Or, if you prefer, bell peppers, cabbage rolls, and dumplings are all available filled with either meat or vegetables. Don't miss the Napoleon for dessert--layers of flaky pastry with a light cream filling.
