The food was EXCELLANT – My sister and I went for the first time and really enjoyed the food and service. The chicken tagine and beef kabobs were exquisite. The dinner prices were a bit high but well worth it. We did see the belly dancer but we were too busy enjoying our meal to really pay attention. I will definitely go again and recommend it.

Disappointing – A group of us thought it would be a fun and interesting experience. None of us had been there before. We were there for about 2 hours and the belly dancer only came out twice. The rest of the time she sat at a table with some friends.

The food was decent, but not for the price. I expected more from a $20 plate.

Cedars is an experience to remember! – Cedars is totally unassuming from the outside, but when you step in, you are enveloped in an exotic atmosphere replete with beautiful rugs, low tables, middle eastern music, and delicious aromas from the kitchen. Marlene, the proprietress, is an extremely gracious and welcoming hostess, and a friendly ambassador for all things Lebanese. Her recommendations for dinner for two (nice variety of flavors and textures) and a Lebanese wine (who knew?) were spot on with my husband and I. We walked in without reservations on a Saturday night and were mesmerized by the fire-eating belly dancer. (We only wish our fellow patrons had the class not to tuck dollar bills into her skirt waistband.) After dinner, the pillows and rugs on the low banquette made for perfect reclining. Cedars is more than a dinner out. It's a cultural experience. Thank you, Marlene! We will be back.

BEST FOOD BY FAR FOR MIDDLE EASTERN CUISINE! – I went there with my two kids under the age of 4 and they enjoyed the food, the service, and the waiters were really good to keep them happy. Service was very prompt, courteous, and attentive. They took good care of us while we were there. The food was . . . . .by far the best that I have had in a long time. I have been to other middle eastern restaurants in the area and they didn't compare to what we received at Cedars. The food was excellent and you can tell that it was original. Very delicious!! Also the owner came out later in the evening and greeted us to make sure that everything was up to par, which of course was.

Fabulous Mediteranian, every time is a treat. – Lamb tagine is to die for!!!! A previous review talked about having expected it to be curry dish. The menu does say that the lamb is marinated in curry. However, tagine dishes are not usually curry flavored and that is certainly not the case with this dish. Lamb tagine is usually one of two types, with fruits (dates, raisins, plumbs etc) or without. This is a spectacular non fruit version. With the right mix of spice and flavor, there is a hint of spice from the curry but it's very subtle. The lamb is always extremely tender. I can't say enough about this dish. Their babaganoush is also delicious.

If you order the lamb tagine not expecting curry, I am sure you will love it as much as I do.

Cedars also has a nice quaint atmosphere that feels a little like another world, especially when the belly dancers show up.

Amazing Food – If you are looking for your entire daily calorie count via an artery clogging hamburger this place is not for you. If you are in the mood to try something new and different, you will be pleasantly suprised as your tastebuds experience the entire spectrum of flavors offered here. Not much for new things? Order any of the kebabs, you can't go wrong there. Want something truly amazing that you'd kill to get the recipe for? Order the chicken pastilla. I'm not personally very fond of any of the appetizers, but I don't think there is a single main dish I don't enjoy here. One of the best kept secrets when it comes to non-standard fare restaurants in salt lake.

Excellent Service – I am a big fan of Ethnic and Middle Eastern food, so I HAD to try Cedars. The service was excellent, and I would DEFINITELY recommend the Chicken Pastilla. It is absolutely fabulous. The dissapointment came from the Lamb Tagine (curry). It was not very spicey at all and tasted more like salt than anything else. The lamb was very tender, but the salt made it close to unedible. The atmosphere was great and I would go back...but not for the curry.

A refreshing variety of Middle Eastern specialties served in a comfortable downtown atmosphere. – The Scene
The dining room is modest and rustic but comfortable. The lunch buffet is popular with downtown business people, but dress is casual any time of day. Come in on Friday or Saturday night and you'll be treated to a belly-dance show.

The Food
Order the meza (appetizer) combination to sample several different Middle Eastern flavors and textures. The tabbouleh--chopped parsley, tomatoes, green onions and bulgur wheat mixed with olive oil and lemon juice--is full of flavor and is a nice contrast to the smooth, garlicky hummus. Sarma (grape leaves stuffed with rice, onions and spices) have a nice hint of nutmeg and cinnamon. The falafel is packed with flavor, but tends to be a bit on the dry, crumbly side. If you're looking for a tasty, meatless entree, try the cheese beurek--feta cheese layered with phyllo dough--with rice and your choice of soup or salad.

Exotic, delicious, & healthy – I have had the opportunity to eat at Cedars on several occasions for lunch and dinner. The food is always delicious and the menu has an excellent variety of healthy, low-fat entrees and appetizers. The service is top notch and the belly dancers provide excellent entertainment. If you are tired of the ordinary and looking for something exotic in downtown SLC, try lunch or dinner in Cedars. They also have a Moraccan room which provides a great ambiance as you sample the excellent middle eastern cuisine. P.S. They also have a lunch buffet where you can sample the wonderful flavors the resturaunt offers.
