Extremely Rude and Inhumane! – I used to work downtown, a block from the Atlantic Cafe, and would frequently dine in for lunch. The food has always been “just okay”, and the service...well, it has NEVER been anything special. This last weekend I was passing by the restaurant with my partner after we had attended a downtown event. My partner who has had several medical issues this year very quickly became ill and needed the relief of a restroom as soon as possible. This was not an issue of "just holding it", it was a matter of intense pain and could have been life threatening. We walked into the restaurant looking for the restroom and were immediately confronted by an employee asking if she could help us. The tone in her voice was awfully less-than-friendly. I simply asked her if there was a restroom that we could use. Her reply was a very sharp "NO". I explained to her that my partner was extremely ill and that it was an extreme emergency. The employee was incredibly rude and treated us as if we were less than human. I offered to purchase something, and even offered her money. She snapped back that she could not help us because the owner of the Atlantic Café was somewhere in the building. So I asked to speak to the owner. To no avail, we were pushed out the door as if we were beggars. I have never been treated so inappropriately and so impolitely.
My partner was experiencing severe stomach pains and asked to be driven to the emergency room. Unable to wait another second my partner was forced to relieve himself behind a tree down the street from the Atlantic Cafe. I stood on the street watching for passers, so I could warn him if someone was coming. I listened to him crying as he hide behind the tree. He was humiliated and still very ill. I was heartbroken and infuriated.
I understand the right that all restaurants have to reserve the restroom for their guests only. It is not a public restroom, it belongs to the Atlantic Café. The Atlantic Café stocks it and keeps it clean. However, the Atlantic Café and it’s employees also have the choice of how to treat their customers and potential customers. It was not a matter of not being able to use the restroom, it was the fact that neither my partner or myself have ever been treated in such a manner that made us feel less than human, discriminated, and rejected.
I am sharing this experience with all 436 of my friends on facebook. If they have half the friends I have, then this experience with the Atlantic Cafe will be relayed to over 102,896 people within a day. And if they share this with their friends, it will reach at least 20,579,200 people within a week. Let this be a warning to all who work in the hospitality industry, as I do, that in this modern day of communication, no one can afford poor publicity. And to you, Atlantic Cafe, I will continue sharing this story of your extreme lack of humanity and hospitality until your doors are closed for good.
Good ambience, polite service – I just happened to see this restaurant while travelling the trax in downtown and decided to enter it. I have been there almost 5 times and have loved it each time. Very polite waitresses, good food, fresh ingredients and the ambience is awesome...definitely worth going again
Cute place HORRIBLE service – i am from europe and went to atlantic for its european setting and food. however out of my 4 visits, 4 were very horrible.
twice i was charged for items i havent ordered or bought, and was told it shouldnt be a big deal for people that have money and drive good cars, third time i was told to wait for a table, and waited for almost 20 min. then when sitted, owner came and told me that he has to cater to the americans first, which i found rather strange, and fourt time we came in for a glass of wine and after waiting 15 minutes i asked if they were open (it was 2 hrs prior to closing) he told me " for some we are and for some we are not"
i will not go back again.
Visitor impressed with the food – I was in town for a conference, and an employee at my hotel told me that this market was her favorite place to eat. I was incredibly impressed with my sandwich! Quality ingredients, and great tasting! I also like that they give the option of the side being salad or fries without charging extra. I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area again.
best in this part of America – after traveling Yellowstone , Las Vegas, Salt Lake to San Diego best descent coffee and excellent breakfast fund in this downtown cafe, tired of experiments come back for perfect dinner ,everything is original European, even Swiss cheese is Emmentaler original, great selection of meats ,Parma prosciuto etc.,small place but big surprise, great service and inexpensive vine list.big surprise in Utah
best price, best food,... – not place for Grand America valet guys, who ask for special discount in exchange for referral even on old menu ,this place chance price in last 10 years for only $2 for some items.Best original fresh food in downtown !
HIGH PRICES AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE – I WENT THERE ON RECOMENDATIONS. EXPERIENCE WAS BAD. THE PRICES WERE $2.00 HIGHER THAN ON THE MENU PER ENTREE. I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH MANAGER(HE SAID PRICE CHANGED). I REFER PEOPLE TO EAT ALL OVER SALT LAKE .THE MANAGER SAID HE IS BUSY ENOUGH HE DOESNT NEED MY REFERALS. BESIDES THE FOOD IS NOT THAT GOOD!!!!!! IF YOUR LOOKING FOR REAL GREEK TRY GREEK SOULVAKI OR BC CHICKEN.
To die for – I was going to a play across the street at off broadway. After this was still open and looked cute. It is open really late and has loacals who come all the time. Me and my sister tried different things and loved them bolth. I have been back three times now and love everything. You can dine right off the street in the summer and is the perfect little cafe/restraunt for a night out, or just lunch.
THE BEST RESTAURANT IN SLC – This is my favortie restaurant downtown. I love it so much I actually had my post-wedding luncheon here. The medditaranean (sp?) pizza is absolutely amazing as is the veggie lazanga. REAL olives, not that canned stuff. : ) Has a decent selection of vegitarian options and very well priced. The atmosphere is charming, to say the least and the market has some amazing things, the ONLY place I buy olive oil now! The service is always very good and their coffee is the best I've ever had. I can't even think of enough good things to say about it.
Seven Stars! – This is my FAVORITE restaurant in downtown SLC. If you like the best value deal, this is it. You will LOVE the taste of everything on their menu. Food is freshly prepared and you will feel like you are in a cute little cafe in Europe. I cannot say enough good things. Besides from the European charm, the prices and service are great. You will not be rushed (there is no "cycle time" on their tables, unlike many SLC restaurants) and the staff is very friendly. There is a cute little "must see" deli in the back where they have lots of Croatian food that you would see at a Croatian grocery market.
