New location not so good... – I remember eating at Taj at their previous location and being pleased. The food was good and the staff was nice. We love Indian food but they're losing out to their competition now. The new location is the dead zone... always seems empty. We tried the buffet once and it lacked freshness. I think the food had been under the heat lamps too long. The food had been good but sat too long. Last time we went we left before ordering. We were the only ones there and our table and dishes didn't look overly clean. Our waitress was sort of nonexistent so we ended up leaving. It was a little strange - It used to be great and could be again but not sure what is going on there now.

WONDERFUL RESTAURANT – HAVING LIVED IN ENGLAND WHERE THERE IS AN INDIAN RESTAURANT ON EVERY CORNER, TAJ INDIA RATES RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE BEST. I WILL SAY IT'S THE BEST IN TOWN, CONSISTENTLY VAST MENU, GRACIOUS STAFF AND SPACIOUS, LIGHT AND AIRY SURROUND.

Worst Indian Food I have ever had – I drive by Taj India frequently, and I absolutely love Indian food. Driving by you can tell the decor is bad, so I figured I would try their takeout. We ordered the vegetable masala, aloo gobi, and a side of the dal. The vegetables looked as if they had spent the day on the buffet. After a few bites, we ended up putting the food in the trash, and cooked our own dinner. I will never go back.

Sunday Buffet – I liked the Sunday buffet beause it was awesome. They had some dish in their chicken selection and it was worth the spiciness (can't remember what its called). Also the Aloo Gobi is a must. And to top it all up, gotta have the strawberry lassi.

A good restaurant unfortunately in decline – Taj India is one of Salt Lake's older Indian Restaurants. Originally located in mid downtown, they were forced to move when a fire struck their building. They relocated to a place that had a history of failed restaurants because it was a bit too tucked away to get the attention needed. Now they've moved to a rather rundown facility that is not nearly as nice as their competition. Apparently, they don't have the funds or freedom to make the needed upgrades.

For some time the appearance of the place and lack of customers kept me away, but recently I decided to give them a try due to the low priced Sunday buffet. The food at the buffet was actually quite good, especially the spicy Lamb vindaloo, lamb being a rarity on most buffets due to cost. Most Indian buffets make all the food as mild as possible if not bland so I was impressed. Everything tasted quite good and it was a hell of a deal for a great lunch. There were two other tables eating the buffet at the time. If they were in a better facility, I'm sure they'd attract many more customers with such a great deal.

After having the wonderful lamb vindaloo, I was a bit hooked on this naturally spicy dish so a few nights later my wife and I returned to order out. I ordered the Lamb vindaloo (hot) and we also got the Bhindi Masala (medium) a less spicy dish made with okra, onions and tomatoes. I certainly got what I asked for on the vindaloo, it was hot enough start a fire! Not a complaint, I loved it. The Bhindi, however was a big disappointment. It did not seem at all fresh. It was like eating week old re-heated leftovers. Unfortunately, this happens when a restaurant cannot attract enough customers. They have to store the food that does not get used and re-heat it as needed. That's why I tend to stay away from restaurants that do not have many customers.

I think Taj India has some great food and I'd love to see them come back. Unfortunately, for now they seem to be on hard times.

Not the best, but definitely not the worst! – There are quite a few Indian restaurants in the Salt Lake valley these days and some of them are a bit dodgey! Taj India is pretty safe. I first decided to try it because it's much more convenient to my house than my favorite Indian restaurant.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were met by a nice young woman with a bright smile. She seated us promptly but did not say one word the entire time. We were given no menus and could only assume that we were relegated to the buffet. Being a vegetarian I was a little wary of the options I might have at a buffet line, but there were a few things to choose from.

The food was not spectacular. Somehow everything I chose was cold. The naan was a bit chewy from sitting out and the vegetable pakoras were slightly over-cooked. But, the chutney was absolutely perfect. Some of the best I've ever had. And the rice was very different from anything I've had before.

I would like to try Taj India another time when I might order off of the menu. I think that would give me a better sense of their abilities. But I will save my next visit for a much later date. My curry cravings have not been satisfied and I think I'll have to make a trip to my favorite Indian restaurant (Royal India). It might be a longer drive, but it's well worth it.

Great Food/Expensive/Poor Atmosphere – This place is spacious & clean, although not the best ambience. The service was good. The food is great but expensive for Indian. The lunch buffet is now $12! Who eats that much for lunch?

Not child friendly? We beg to differ! – We found an inviting atmosphere and a wonderful children's menu of traditional yet kid-friendly food served in a delightful tea-party style. Each portion was presented in its own little cup or saucer and the whole affair was spread out on an important looking platter. It was delivered promptly - well before the big people's food was ready, what a relief!

And as for that food: quite satisfactory! We have tried Indian restaurants from one end of this valley to the other and all over the West - Taj is great.

Food okay, but didn't excite – Food was decent, but it didn't excite me. It wasn't as flavorful as other Indian restaurants I've visited in the valley. My Indian food craving for the day wasn't fully satisfied.

On the plus side, Taj Inda was very clean inside, and the decor was inviting.

The lunch buffet is not $6.50 as advertised on this website, it was $8.45 :(
