It's dead Jim! – This place was vibrant and active in the 80s and early 90s. In the past five years the number of stores has been dropping steadily. There are more vacant store fronts then there are stores. Most of the stores in the mall are small somewhat seasonal businesses. No plans have been disclosed about the future of the mall but even the small businesses are leaving. At this point no one knows what is going on including the city of Holladay where the mall is located.
Skip this unless you're looking for a good indoor spot for walking.
Before 1962, roving bands of teenagers had nowhere to go. It was a savage time. – The Scene
Cottonwood Mall has the proud distinction of being the first shopping mall in the Salt Lake valley. Before its appearance in 1962, Holladay residents were forced to dress up, don hats and gloves, and make a special trip downtown. Old-timers may mourn this tradition, as well as the mall's early features. The motorized cart that could transport 20 people from one end of the mall to the other disappeared years ago. And what ever happened to the tall wooden Christmas tree where carolers would assemble to delight (or annoy) the holiday shoppers?
JCPenney and ZCMI.
If you happen to be a cigar-smoking Feng Shui enthusiast, hop in your car and get over here. You can stop at Wing Tai for bamboo plants that will ensure long life and then visit Holy Smokes for a wide variety of cigars.
American Grill, Tucci's, Café Trang, Ariake, and TGI Friday's.
