BAD – They are horrible.. I purchased a gift certificate on citydeals for Q4U which expired on 3/31. We went in today (3/31) and was told the gift certificate was expired, it expired when they opened today. This is horrible! What business does this? I think they just like to steal your money!! The manager was very rude also, she didn't care! I will be taking my business to Pat's Bar B Que which tastes better anyway.
Decent – I like Q4U plenty - their food can be hit-or-miss, but the brisket is good and the ribs are tasty. Not a fan of most of their sides, but meat and sauce are okay.
Confused about the bad reviews – We've been eating at Q4U for a few years now, and I am pretty confused about the bad reviews on here. It's always tasty whenever I go. I had the spare ribs last night and they were anything but dry! I do understand some of the complaints about the sides (never tried the yams or mac n cheese), and the bread that comes with the meals is pretty blah in what seems to be a BBQ tradition of lousy bread. The Cajun spiced fries are great and the hush puppies are nice and oniony. My advice would be to not even bother with any other sides (depending on what you get, your meal comes with one or two sides). LOVE the sauces - the house sauce is the best in my opinion. Sweet, tangy and just a little bit hot.
Overall, I love Q4U and there are a lot of tasty affordable options. I might rate this lower (just because not everything on the menu is stellar) if I hadn't had visits to other local BBQ joints within the last two months to remind me that what matters is the meat and the sauce.
Q4U - not 4 me – My husband and I have heard a lot of good things about Q4U in West Jordan, so we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. After all, a place that has been voted best bbq and gets rave reviews has to be good, right? WRONG. We ordered take out and once we got home and dug in, we were very dissapointed. The ribs were very dry, not fall off the bone like they should be. The sauce was served on the side, not on the ribs. The brisket was extremely dry also. The mac n cheese was disgusting! And the 'sweet yams' were anything but. So to put it bluntly, this is the worst bbq we've ever had. We won't be giving it a second chance. Whoever voted this the best bbq must not know what GOOD bbq is. You're better off going to Goodwood BBQ.
"Best of Citysearch"...You POOR people! – Worst BBQ I ever tasted in my life. I ordered the big combo plate, since the reviews, and was treated to DRY, as a powderhouse, pork ribs, mangy chicken, flavorless fatty brisket and well, I won't even mention the sides(you can get better in Angola State Penn.). This place CAN NOT cook! I mean at all. Take the southern sweet tea for example, so much sugar in the tea it almost melts the spoon. Can everything be this difficult to do? TEA?
Since I had a sample of nearly everything they feature at this place I can honestly tell you the other reviews must, have to be, can't be honest at all. The owners must have gotten everyone they know to say something nice about them. Your better off making your own BBQ at home. I should have known...pathetic food. Truly. It is as if they have no "REAL" restaurant experience at all. I can respect someone trying to make a living and I"m pretty understanding, but this place is horrible.
Instead try Pat's BBQ. Sure it's mddle of the road but at least you won't be eating roadkill off of it.
smokeyness – So, I've had bbq in Memphis and Kansas City and all over, and my favorite is definitely the KC stuff because of the smokey flavor. Q4U was the first place in utah where ive found brisket with a good smokey flavor (i've tried at least a half dozen places). It's no KC for sure, but it's solid. I had a brisket sandwich and the roll they used was great (very substantial). the fries were good although had i not been eating in the car i would have tried other sides.
the service was good, although i only dealt with the hostess as i got it takeout. she was very helpful on the phone as well. can't complain.
the only complaint i might have is the lack of available spicy sauce... the "hot" isnt really very hot, and its VERY sweet. maybe a little too sweet. but the smokey brisket will have me going back very soon. probably tomorrow for lunch. the five stars are in comparison to other UTAH bbq. it beats most.
Good BBQ BAD Sides – The ribs my girlfriend and I shared were delicious, almost as good as you can find in the South. However, the sides we ordered were mediocre. Decent service overall. I'd probably go back just for the BBQ.
Food fit for a DOG?? – YUCK! The chicken quarter/leg was green! I'm not kidding... green in color! Mac and cheese was day-old, at best. Beans were soggy and nasty. Only two sauce choices (regular and spicy) both mediocre and NOT spicy at all. Ribs were extremely fatty and lacked flavor. Sausage was passable, but definitely not top-tier. pulled pork was decent, but again, nothing to make me crave it or EVER return. The drinks had barely any ice in them.
The service was terrible! The waitress was chomping her gum. When we told her we were "done," she didn't bother to ask why we had barely touched our food (maybe they're just used to that). I had 80% of my food left since it was so nasty. I debated whether to take any of it home for my dogs. For the record, my two Labrador Retreivers thought this Q was wonderful.
Rude service, overwhelmed staff – We visited Q4U at their new location on 5400 South. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the staff seemed very overwhelmed. It took 10 minutes to seat us, although there were empty tables everywhere and no one in front of us. When another 10 minutes went by before a waitress came to our table, I walked up and mentioned that to the hostess, wondering if perhaps we had been forgotten. The hostess snapped back very rudely, asserting that we had not been there very long, and that we had "just got here". I returned to our table, a little flustered, and at that point we decided that we didn't want to eat there. The staff seemed indifferent that we left, and we received no apologies.
What happend?? – I had not been to Q4u in awhile so we stopped in for lunch and were left wondering what happened to the good food we use to get there. The meat on the sandwiches were dry leaving us to wonder if it was leftovers from the previous day. The Chicken wings were fried breading was very hard and what happened to the sauce changed, it use to be a really delicious honey cinnamon sauce and now its no better then what you might get at a gas/convenience store.
