Always an adventure ... – If you like music and you like a relaxing place to go, this is it. Hidden in Old Mill area, it's a bit out of the way, but definitely a Utah tradition. It will be crowded if you go on the weekend, and you are likely to run into a strange combination of patrons ... everything from college students to grandpa types. Too bad there's only one fireplace. It could be pretty romantic but the place is always so jammin' you cannot have a decent conversation. Also - the women's bathrooms are decent for a place of this size and type. The outside patio has its own special ambiance.
Avoid jerks at the door – This is a membership required bar, which I have paid even though I have not been there for several months. I walked up on a Wednesday night at eleven pm and saw no one at the door. There was live music, which is why I came. As I started to walk in a guy that had been talking a woman at my left said something to me. I said, "What?"
"Are you going to pay the cover?" He was right in my face. This little guy. I walked to the right to comply with the cover charge and pay $4.00 cover. This little guy, was right in my face and I said, "You know you have really bad breath (he did, it smelt of beer and dead beer. It was really disgusting).
He said, "I don't like your attitude, you are out of here." I said, "What?"
I left, but I stood outside at about 20 yards unbelieving what this little guy had just done.
I saw one of his friend walk up and he gave a big hug to and let walk in, no ID check.
The chick that he was talking to walked up and he bragged about how he kicked me out because I said he stunk.
This place is disgusting. What you expect in Utah. They can't get real people to run the bars so they get jerks like this.
Do the Bartenders know that they are working for tips?? – Okay, if you've read any other reviews you probably know what is coming. The Hog Wallow is kind of a cool neighborhood bar and has some pretty decent live music. Unfortunately, the reviews on the service are dead on, except the part about the female bartenders being unusually attractive. It is really too bad they aren't, because they act like they are. Last time I was in with my girlfriend, one particular bartender was being especially rude, and not just to us, but the entire end of the bar we were sitting on. I asked the bartender what her deal was, why she was so irritated, and she said that she hates drunks... Is is just me, or if you hate being around drunks, does it make much sense to work at a job where your sole responsibility is serving alcohol to people who really enjoy drinking it? What did she think was going to happen? I say the management should replace all the average looking, average performing female servers with one good one, and I couldn't care less what HE looks like.
Great bar, but worst service in Utah – Quite frankly, this is the best bar in Utah nearly destroyed by the WORST service in Utah. The owner apparently has a penchant for hiring attractive, young female wait staff who are incapable of moving faster than the average sloth, couldn't recognize an empty beer if it was projected for them in high-def on the wall, and apparently think that they are the finest, most special, most unapproachably beautiful women in America. These girls couldn't figure out how to hustle behind a bar if Jesus Christ himself was thirsty and was going to make their salvation dependent on whether or not He got a beer in the next fifteen minutes.
I have been in this place, enjoying great conversation and good bands, but literally leaning on the bar, groaning in agony and frustration, waving 20's, 50's, 100 dollar bills in the faces of these pretty but totally oblivious and incompetent bartenders. For heaven's sake, if the owner of the Hog Wallow reads this, fire those b****es yesterday and hire some ugly women and guys who can MOVE!!! Every Saturday night that I'm in there, I watch an incredible amount of money go unclaimed by this unbelievably incompetent bar staff, and I watch people who would otherwise hang out and spend cold hard cash finally get frustrated and leave, to go up the street to the Canyon Inn or to ANYWHERE where the bartenders aren't slow-motion idiots.
Holy ****! All you have to do is pour the beers, take the money, pour the beers, take the money, etc.etc.etc., and do it fast enough that people aren't growing spider webs under their arms waving 20's in your stupid, oblivious, self-centered faces!
Ok, rant over. Except for the worst service in Utah, it's a great place.
Ridiculous service – This would be the best place in Utah to hang out if not for the terrible wait staff. Each time we've been the waitresses have not only be inefficient, but rude as well. We ask for things that never get delivered, and our drink glasses remain empty for too long. We've resorted to going to the bar to place our order ourselves- not that it's much better. Still, it's worth going so long as you know better than to expect great service. Live music is usually good. The patio is great.
Rude Staff – The atmosphere at Hogs Wallow is nice and the overall experience would be wonderful if not for the awful service of the bartenders and rest of the staff. They are unkind, slow and don't seem to care. When they finally do get to you and you tip them poorly for their poor service they seem shocked. I think they should look for new bartenders and waitresses before I ever go back.
The best patio anywhere! – This place has to have the best patio, scrub oaks, water fall, some secluded tables and beautifully landscaped. Don't go there if you plan on going back to work..you will just be to relaxed. All the employees are great, but Karen is the bomb!
The only thing I can find wrong with Hog Wallow is they don't open early enough and no wireless access... It could just be my afternoon office..lol
Great Watering Hole – If your looking for a place to kick back, not dress up, and listen to good live music, this is the place.
Comfortable ambience and a healthy selection of microbrews make this a great live-music hangout. – In Short
This little out-of-the-way spot offers all the necessary elements to unwind properly: great live music, finger foods and a good selection of brews. The place gets packed with fun-lovin' people from all walks of life, so get there early to reserve a place on the weekends. The kitchen cooks up all the usual appetizers (hot wings, nachos, etc.) and a variety of pizzas. Draft beers include a bevy of local microbrews.
Perfect Patio! – I love the patio at the Hog Wallow. It is so lush and green with tons of shade. The employees are great too, and quite attractive.
