I love dougs! They are a smaller gun shop here in salt lake but they are here to help their fellow arms lovers! They offer guns and ammo at a fair price and their indoor range is less $ than anyone I've been to.
I have been to Doug's several time and always had a great time and been treated fairly. I took a group of 14 people for a holiday shoot. They treated us great and gave us a good deal. Thank you
Do not waste your time – They have quite a few guns...unfortunately they can not sell any to you because their FFL license lapsed or at least that is what they claim. They also claim Utah's best indoor range...I have been to four different ranges in Utah and this one was the absolute hands down worst. I would rather take my chances shooting in my own basement because at least there would be some ventilation if I open a window.
great gun shop – picked up a great short barrel (legal) shotgun from doug's. friendly service and great price. highly recommended.
GLOCKANATOR rebuttal – GLOCKANATOR: Sorry to read that "the very first handgun I bought" was such a bad experience. Somehow "the first handgun" and "experience" speak loudly to what may have been more closely related to your bad experience than the guys I know to be quite professional at DOUG'S. You got one thing right, GLOCK! Glock, however, for an inexperienced shooter could be problematic. You'll hear, "Glock's don't have a safety"! NOT SO. I am very skeptical about "ALL" of the police officers ... trading in their GLOCKS for..superior.." I have owned S&W, First ever duty weapon a Model 19 "BUNTLINE SPECIAL" I even carried a model 315, 3" barrel .38 once. Today the only name on my sidearm is GLOCK. I'll post a pix of a target shot at DOUG'S for qualifying once. 2 Clips, rapid fire, Max range, 17 body cavity, 17 head shots W/a Crimson Trace Laser of course. Best sidearm I've ever owned. Kind advice here. Take shooting lessons from qualified instructors, compare firearms objectively, and apologize to Dave - he's a professional and has my respect.
Janky – I am very ashamded to say that the very first handgun I bought was through Doug's. When I went in to look for a Glock 22 I waited for about 20 mins for someone to help me out. Finally I went over to the large group of "sales" man and asked for some help. The owner Dave finally dragged his butt over to the counter and asked what I was interested in. I told Dave that I was interested in a Glock 22 (which he had several used). Dave then pulls out a Springfield Xd and states that "ALL" of the poilce officers in the Salt lake valley have been coming in and trading in there Glocks for a supeior weapon. After informing Dave I was not interested in and XD and that I wanted a Glock he again wouldnt show me any of his used Glocks. After about 15 mins of this BS I asked Dave if he was going actually show me the gun I was interested in. Dave unwillingly showed me the Glock I was interested in. Dave again started talking up his XD and how much better it was because it had a "load indicator" and he knows that when a gun his handed to him if it is loaded or not. To which I replied " Any idiot that takes a gun and doesnt check it to see if it is loaded shouldnt be allowed to own a gun."
Dave took the Glock I was looking at and walked away. Several weeks later I went back in to Doug's to give Dave a second chance. Again with the same routine. After waiting for a while I finally asked someone to help me. Again it was Dave and he again started pushing the XD. This time I asked him why he liked the Xd so much to which he responeded. " For every 100 XD's I sell Springfield sends me one for free." After waiting almost an hour I was walking out with my Glock. I have been in Doug's several more times over the years and its always the same thing. They push the XD and dont care what you want. There customer services sucks not to mention all the bad press they have recevied over the last two years. They dont care about safety as long as Dave meets his quota on selling his XD's so he can get a free one.
WTF was I thinking? – Wow! I will NEVER go into this place again. I went in looking for another handgun. Waited for 10 minutes to find this out. Had a question about a speedloader, another 15 minutes waiting. Then to top it off I had a purchase, ( a measly $100 but still) waited in line for another 20 minutes. The place was nasty. I hear all of these commercials on the radio and though I would give them a try. They should spend their money on better staff and cleaning the place up instead of ads on the radio. It felt like a nasty pawn shop with a similar attitude. There didn't seem to be much of a selection there either. I will gladly go somewhere else.
Great Salt Lake Firearms Dealer – I recently purchased 2 weapons in 2 months, 1 from a local competitor in Midvale (Tactical .22 caliber rifle) and a handgun from Doug's. My experience with Doug's was far more superior than the other store. Its staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I've been to their store several times since I bought my gun and dealt with 4 staff members so far and I received consistent friendly and courteous service all 4 times. When I bought my gun, I had no idea what brand to get. Dave, the guy that sold me the gun took the time to show me a few choices and educated me and my son on the advantages and disadvantages of each weapon without being pressured whatsoever. I feel I made the best decision and couldn't be happier with my choice. I see a lot of people complain that the service at Doug's is very slow. Well, it's really not slow, they just care enough about each customer and ensure they answer all of their questions. Its the quality of service you get when you finally get your turn. If you are planning to go to Doug's, plan on spending at least 30 min to be in the store specially on a busy day. Trust me, it'll be worth your wait when you get your turn. They will give you the time you deserve no matter how knowledgeable or ignorant you are with guns. It's obvious that is their policy with customers.
They've master the craft on their products and they try to do the same with their customer service. That's a bit hard to find with retailers these days especially for a local business. Besides, they've only been around for 36 yrs. I think that's enough to trust that they know what they're doing.
Great Place – There electricity was out, but they let me in anyway. They had a few flashlights and did the best in the dark. there prices were great, compared to other dealers in town.
