This tip's for Hog Island's Ferry Building oyster bar, any self-respecting bivalve fanatic's first stop. If you're on a budget, go Monday or Thursday from 5-7pm for happy hour--1/2-priced chef's choice specials. You can get oysters to go too!

Nothing beats a fresh shucked oyster that's been pulled from the Bay minutes before shucking. Reserve a table and bring a picnic to this picturesque spot where you can get your fill of briny bivalves.

Good place to bring out of town guests – After driving completely out of the way for what seemed like forever...we finally made it here...We got 2 dozen of the sweet water osyters...quite honestly they were not that great...I would have liked to have had the atlantics...but they were sold out. In the right conditions this could be a fun day...if you bring a picnic lunch, some booze and get a few dozen osyters.

Sit and shuck to your heart's content at this open-air oyster shack at the edge of Tomales Bay. – In Short
A long, low open-air shack at the edge of Tomales Bay announces the presence of this Bay Area secret. Pull up in the oyster-shelled parking lot and you'll spot locals and day-trippers alike picking up coolers full of oysters freshly harvested from the bay. Stashed in long tanks full of running water, the oysters are sold live in the shell. You can take them home on ice or grab a tray, an oyster knife and a lemon or two.

Incredibly fun – I've been twice and both times had an absolutely wonderful time. The oysters are unbelievably

good, the bayside picnic tables offer the most beautiful view, and the staff is super nice. This place is great for groups, but it is a bit hard to get to. It's really close to great hiking sites and Pt. Reyes Station, so it's worth the drive if you make a day out of it.

4 Varieties: Atlantics, French Hogs, Kumamotos, can't remember the last

Cost: ~$12/doz

Bayside tables and BBQ grills are available for picnickers, as well as shuckers and trays. I recommend bringing your own gloves although they are provided. Also, be sure to bring condiments, drinks, plates, and utensils, etc. For a more complete picnic experience, it's also advisable to bring other food.

Be sure to check hours before going because they close fairly early.
