Great Sports Bar – I didn't realize this place existed until I was told about it from a friend. I went a few weeks ago and thought it was a great place. The outside deck was amazing especially since it was a beautiful day outside. I don't know anywhere else in The Fan that has a deck like that. It definitely is not a perfect brand new deck, but its outside and there is a bar and tv's out there.
When I pulled up I walked by the patio where a ton of people were out there watching the big screen tv out there. I was kinda jealouse as that seemed to be a prime spot but was packed.
I had the buffalo chicken wrap, which was delicious. Had a few pitchers of beer with the boys and watched some tv and had a merry old time. They also seemed to have some good things going on inside, as I saw poker tables, ping pong and darts and all that. Didn't really do any of them because I was up on the deck but I will definitely be back
Bad food – I went there to catch a basketball game with four friends, and we all ordered different things - wings, chili cheese fries, chicken fingers, potato skins, burgers, and nachos. The food was sub-par even for a sports bar. Nachos were soggy, fries were average, etc. If you want good food to watch sports with, go to Mojo's.
Zero Hospitality – So I went to Mulligans, a slightly-below-average bar on on W Main St. on a Monday night hoping to play ping pong with my girlfriend. At the most, there were ten people in the bar. There were three pool tables open: 1 was converted to a ping pong table and was being used by two people. The other two pool tables were not being used by anyone - and by anyone, I mean these tables were completely idle. No one lined up to play, no one even thinking about lining up to play. I asked the manager if we could place a ping pong table on top of one of the idle pool tables (the table top is sitting in plain sight of the pool table) and he said no. I asked him why, particularly because they were so very, very idle and he told me, "That's what the owner wants."
I left, immediately, with my wallet.
So, unless you are interested in doing exactly what the owner wants you to do on the night he (or she) wants you to do it, I'd skip this bar. No real character or hospitality - it's run by people who really don't understand customer service - and I've eaten there before and I promise you that all they serve is the same kind of re-heated CostCo food that every other slightly-below-average bar on W Main St serves.
You aren't missing anything here.
My Everyday Bar... – Mulligan's in the Fan is my favorite place in the Fan District by far. Fridays and Tuesdays are Karaoke nights. They have some of the greatest servers in the city and the best doorman you'll ever meet. Highly recommended! Say hi to Freeze and Katie Anna while you are there!
A monster-sized bar and grill catering to sports fans and families with its giant TVs and a full menu. – The Scene
Although each of the four locations has its own distinct personality, the Main Street spot has one of the best outdoor decks in town. Multi-level with huge TV screens, Mulligans remains one of the most popular places to hang out. The crowd is usually comprised of young sports fans, their eyes glued to the latest game, but you'll also find families in for a bite to eat.
Like sports? Need a group that shares your enthusiasm? Show up for a major game and you'll suddenly feel like you've got 150 close friends all routing for the same team. A bevy of big screams and the upstairs deck makes this one of the hottest places in the city to catch any major sporting event.
Bad experience – I was very disappointed. I thought the food was mediocre and my server was rude and forgetful.
herdsal – We have been watching college football at a Mulligans since 1987 and we are now at the Main St site for several years. John is great and always works to find our games. Marshall University fans have always been welcome and we love Mulligans.
Primed for Takeover – If an entrepreneur set up a card table on the corner, served a beer other then Miller or Budweiser, offered a decent Buffalo Wing and purchased sports memoribilia from somewhere other then KMart's discount rack, they'd put Mulligans out of business.
The lack of sports passion exhibited in these Mulligan locations is consistant with the general Richmond populace. I guess you get what you deserve.
