Gillette-designed gardens remain a natural attraction at this manorhouse. – Virginia House is a reconstructed English manor, a prime example of the American Country Place movement with gardens designed by famed landscape artist Charles Gillette. Like Agecroft Hall, Virginia House was built in an age of grand houses envisioned by American anglophiles with a romantic view of English country estates and a great deal of money. Originally home to United States Ambassador to Spain Alexander Weddell and his wife, it was reconstructed from an actual centuries-old English country estate. Today, it's still furnished with Elizabethan oak furniture, Flemish tapestries and Spanish Colonial art. Its special draw is still the grounds, where picnicking is permitted. Owned and operated by the Virginia Historical Society, Virginia House has been called the most romantic house on the James River. Exhibits on the Ambassador and his wife shed a personal light on th their lives and their home.

Fabulous gardens – This is a gorgeous spot right beside Agecroft Hall--the gardens are amazing. My step-brother was married here a few years ago, and if you're looking for a wedding spot I'd highly recommend it (assuming they still do weddings).
