Maximum Yummy! – While I had to read the description of the dishes because some names were different than I was used too, ie; Lamb Rogan josh vs. Lamb Do-Piaza... the food was excellent. It was my sweeties first foray into Indian cusine and she was, happily, not dissapointed. We started with the lentil soup which was a terrific beginning to the meal, we should have ordered a quart to take home. The roti and naan breads were fantastic with the tamarind sauce and onion chutney. Our entrees arrived and we shared lobster colored tandori chicken and perfectly seasoned lamb with a half carafe of the house red. The saffron rice was also delicious. The older Indian gentleman who served us was informative and attentive throughout the meal.

We doggy-bagged what we couldn't finish as the portions were rather large (a good-sized half chicken). If I lived closer I would visit this resturant a few times a month. Don't forget to grab a good pinch of the fennel seed mixture at the register... a sweet, crunchy, savory mouth surprising end to a great meal.

Very nice dinner! Highly recommended if in the mood for Indian! – I'm here in Virginia travelling, and happen to enjoy Indian Cuisine. Well, Chicken Tikka Masala anyway, and Naan. I looked this place up on the web, plugged into the GPS, and took off. Not hard to find, all freeway but 1/4 mile at most.

When we arrived (Wednesday) at about 6:30, we were the only customers! Shortly after though, a couple came in, then another person. Seating for plenty though, very open. I notice another review said the place next door was loud, sign said El Salvadoran, and looked like a bar. Very quiet, perhaps only on the weekends?

Our waiter, an older gentleman, had a delightful demeanor, very happy, and eager to please. A bit hard to understand, but I'd rather be eating food prepared by an expert than have someone who speaks correct English! The menu was well written, although Chicken Tikka Masala was something like Maju Tikka Masala. Probably chicken in Indian, I've just never seen it written that way. Quite a good selection of items, 2 pages of entrees roughly, page of appetizers, and a page of deserts. You probably won't be disappointed if you have a favorite. You could always call too.

The menu warns that the meal would take 25-30 minutes to prepare due to the cooking time in the tandoori oven. Sure enough, when we got the dinner, the meat had the typical color from being cooked in a tandoori oven. Obviously served with rice. Portions probably average in size, I'm a big eater and I'm quite full now. The Masala was a bit less sweet than I'm accustomed to, but not overpowering, and was mild, as I asked for. The Garlic Naan was excellent. Hard to screw up, but you could taste the garlic, it was delicious.

With two Chicken Tikka Masala's, 6 good sized pieces of Naan, and water, the total with tax was $38.

I give this restaurant five stars, with a caveat. I didn't have anything but two items from the menu, I can't say all entrees are good. But the friendly, enthusiastic service easily puts this to the five star rating.

Best Indian food in town! – At least in our opinion. My husband and I love this place. The food is divine and the staff are warm and welcoming. We have tried various starters and main courses and loved them all. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and the service is top-notch. I always opt for medium (you can choose the spiciness of entrees) and it's just the right amount of heat. Their selection of fresh naan is delicious and I could probably eat that alone. We don't get there as often as we'd like, but every time we dine we are just as satisfied as the last.

Despite a different background, you'll feel at home here. – The Scene
The dining room is rarely crowded at this slightly out-of-the-way Southside restaurant, which allows the management to give each guest attentive service. The traditional Indian dishes at Passage to India are authentic, and the management will cater the level of spiciness to your personal preference.

The Food
Try the vegetable samosas as an appetizer; the fried pockets filled with potatoes, peas and spices with chutney are a delicious beginning. For the main course, several curry options are available, as one would expect from most Indian restaurants, but there are a lot of other delicious options to choose from. The begain bhartha, or eggplant mashed and mixed with spices, is especially good here. The culmination of service and well-cooked Indian favorites makes Passage to India a journey worth taking.

MR SINGH IS THE MAN – Sure this restaurant is in a poor location-but it is the biggest secret in Richmond. My husband and I love it-the best in Richmond. Always plenty of food-the vegetable appetizer sampler is to die for. The onion chutney and papadum is definitely the best in town. The main dishes are somewhat similar but by the time you get to that-you're full. :)
