Amazing BBQ, Friendly staff, Great prices – I've never written a review on citysearch but felt compelled to put in a good word for alexander's while I eat one of their pork bbq sandwichs. This place serves my favorite food in the world. Dan and Lori Alexander have been serving the most unique, tender bbq around for 19 years. I've been eating at the restaurant for 8 of those 19 and am there usually once a week. It's the type of place you wouldn't think of going if you hadn't heard of it before, a little off the beaten path but well worth the effort. For under $7 you can get a giant bbq sandwich, fries, and homemade sweet tea. I can promise you, you will not be dissapointed! Try the ribs too, I think they're cooked for 8 hours or so. DELICIOUS!

gotta be the best in richmond ! – Wow ! This BBQ is great ! With the great taste, the amount you get for such little money, you just can't go wrong ! nice people, great food, what's not to love ?

I just don't understand the negative reviews !

saucy kind you get in a can ?

processed ?

I believe that they chop the bbq, and that you just can't get anything like it in a can !

especially not a a grocery store !

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- LOVE THIS PLACE !

You can do better at the grocery store – In my opinion, there are 3 acceptable ways to serve barbecued pork. You can slice it, pull it, or chop it. These folks have taken it to the next step - processed. Imagine a mediocre pork roast, a little ketchup, sugar, and (believe it or not) cinnamon tossed into a food processor and turned into a stringy paste. Somebody else compared it to what you can get from a can. That's right on the money. If you bypass the canned offerings at the grocery store and go to the refrigerated section, you can find better bbq than this in plastic tubs.

Great BBQ! – Not only are the people who wait on you kind, but the BBQ is great! We were not disappointed at all. Would highly recommend this restaurant to others who like a good BBQ sandwich at very affordable prices. I recommend getting the "Super Q" sandwich....you'll be full when you finish it!!

My Favorite in Town! – I LOVE this barbeque! It is very saucy, which I love, and their family pack for four serves up to six big pigs! I think the baked beans and cole slaw that go with it are out of this world. Can't imagine negative reviews. Glad this place is in my neighborhood!

With county-line appeal, this joint puts the you in the 'cue. – The Scene
When you think about barbecue joints, wood beams, license plates and the smell of grease come to mind. And, at Alexander's, Redskins memorabilia plays a large role in the decoration. The skinny: When you hit Goochland, you've gone too far. At the end of Henrico county and the stripmall it's in, Alexander's keeps the lines long and trucks rolling. The catering does boffo business. The sauce is a more ketchup-y concoction than eastern North Carolina style, but interestingly tasty. You can order sandwiches or just get a tub of the hot 'cue and make your own (or eat it with a fork like the pig 'cue is). And let's face it--a barbecue joint with ambience is a steakhouse. These joints need lots of wood molding, darkish lighting, cheap tables and honkytonk music. The sound of hogs squealing is also appropriate, even if only imagined.

The Food
The 'cue is solid and the potato salad has the right mix of mayonnaise and mustard. The beans will give you that proverbial gleam in your eye.

Disappointing – Barbecue was the mushy kind you can get out of a can. Sauce nothing special. People very nice, but would not go back.

Are you kidding? – Some people like the style, some don't. Those of us who have enjoyed real BBQ probably won't.
