This place sucks!!! – Here I stand just after Hurricane Irene with no power and a tree on my house, having to go to the library to write this. Wondering where my babies furniture is?? I was told FOR 10 WEEKS NOW that my furniture was on it's way. What a bunch of LIARS carrying out FRAUDULENT TACTICS!! My baby is due any day now and I ordered this more than 4 months ago. Never, never, never, never patronize these people, and also do not trust them!!!
Not Happy – Update, this store has closed and screwed people out of thousands of $$ including myself!!!!
My husband and I went to USA Baby to look for a lamp. We had no intention of buying furniture because I knew the shipping/delivery dates would be way too close for comfort. We started looking around and told the sales people our due date and concern for lack of time, we were overly assured by the sales people that if we decided to order from them, they would immediately check availability of any pieces and could assure us they would be here in time, well before my due date, with rush shipping of course. The pieces we picked were confirmed in stock at the manufacturer and we paid out the wazoo for the rush shipping on the "guarantee" that it would be to the store in 3-6 weeks with about another week for the private deliery company to pick up and delivery to us. I say "guarantee" becuase they cannot "guarantee" in writing any specific shiping date but the saleslady gave us her "word" with a wink and a smile...
Six weeks came and went without a word from USA Baby. My husband called and was told our furniture would be there the next week and that we would hear from the private delivery company that same week. Another week went by and no word from anyone. I called again another week later to check the status only to be told that my furniture was there, had been for a week but that their truck which transports the furniture to the private company had broken down and therefor our furniture was stil sitting in their warehouse. I was again "assured" that the furnitured would be delivered to the private company that next day and I would hear from them shortly. We finally heard from the delivery company the next Saturday morning and of course the earliest delivery date they had was a week and a half away, I schedule the date and was given a window of 1-3pm for delivery. My husband took the afternoon off of work and waited for the furniture, and waited, and watied. 4pm rolled around and no furniture and no phone call. I called the company left a message and they called back around 4:15saying they would be there at 4:30, of course 4:30 came and went. They finally showed up at 5pm. The delivery men aplogized and were very nice but after the time we've had with USA Baby it was just the icing on the cake. Not only had we paid out the wazoo for furniture and delivery but my husband had taken and entire afternoon off of work for no reason.
Of course talking to anyone at USA Baby after you've paid your bill is worthless, once they have their money their customer service goes out the window. My suggestion is go there look around (dont be fooled into buying though), find furniture you like but order it online. It will be much cheaper and you'll get it MUCH faster!
One of a kind place! – Great selection of furniture, super helpful sales people. Nothing I've seen comes close! They carry furniture brands I researched and that were praised in the Baby Bargains book. Their selection of linens is great too. A cut above the chains, a must see if you want the good stuff!
I don't think they CARE!! – We ordered our baby furniture February 5. The latest the furniture was expected to arrive was the second week in May. I called to check because no one called me with updates to find out that some pieces were going to be late. Ok...I could deal with that my due date is the end of July so plenty of time. I got a call that the crib, converter rails and todler rail was in but they were still waiting on dresser and night stand. Later in May I called to follow up to be told it should be shipped to the manufacturer the following week then sent to USA Baby. Which didn't happen in that time frame. For them to deliver it was almost $300 so we picked up the furniture on June 18th a couple of days after it arrived. Got home all excited...only to open the dresser box (which was not damamged on the outside) to find a damaged dresser. The third drawer does not open and where each drawer was put in the dresser there is a nick. I called and had to take pictures and email an explanation of what was wrong with dresser.
The response I got was...they were going to order me another dresser and it would be here in 2-4 weeks. When it came in they would open and inspect and then we could pick it up. Ok...here are the problems. My actual due date falls within the 2-4 weeks, however they are inducing this week still within the 2-4 weeks. The next issue is why do we have to pick-up the new dresser. We picked up already and none of this is our fault. I explained all this to the girl who called me back to be told she doesn't make decisions she is just the clerical person and she would pass this on. And if the first dresser was so late coming why does it only take 2-4 weeks for another.
Never heard back so I followed up on Monday to be told that the dresser would be here this week and they would deliver but my husband or someone would have to be here to help the delivery person...really!!! got a call today saying that the dresser will not be here till the end of next week. I'm being induced Friday. Not sure why no one there cares. I guess they got their money. I ordered in plenty of time!!
I had heard a couple of stories about there customer service after you place your order but I had already ordered. I didn't mind spending the money for quality furniture or waiting for delivery but I thought I would have had a complete nursery before my baby came!!!!
Very Good – My furniture is in, so I was looking for their phone number and googled it, and I was curious to see their reviews. After reading Erin's whiny review, I couldn't help but respond. She's right, orders take some time, mine took 15 weeks. But I wanted the good stuff, and I found it there, and I love it!!! So I guess, if you want a huge selection of nice furniture to choose from, you shop at USA Baby - if you want speed, then you settle for what the big stores have to offer. But the whiny, complaining about being nickeled and dimed about expedited delivery - isn't that an option?!? If you don't want it, don't buy it! And the mattresses starting at $100 not being approved by some association - well then, buy a different mattress! What's the deal, did the store employees make the mattress?!? Oh, they must be out to get you. Did they force you to buy the $100 mattress?!? And the free delivery, I had the same query with them - but on their website it says to "see store for details" - and I did, and my sales person told me the details. Maybe your pissed because you assumed, and now its convenient to blame the store - or I know, they lied to you!?!? Hate to sound like Erin, but all the whining and complaining, I guess its the third time mom in me being a cynic - I guess I know why there are so few options in Richmond, far too many businesses want to run and hide from people like Erin!
An Unpleasant Experience – I heard from other parents that USA baby was notorious for late deliveries, but having 20 weeks to spare, and being more relaxed with my second child, I opted to purchase from them anyway. My advice: BEWARE!!!
If you feel like getting nickeled and dimed at checkout, this place might be great for you, but otherwise, look elsewhere. (I know Richmonders, our options are limited.) My favorites: paying extra for "expedited delivery" which was recommended even though I had 20 weeks until delivery and the crib is supposed to arrive in 8-13; being told mattresses start at $100, only to be told later that the $100 option is NOT authorized by the American Association of Pediatrics; being promised free "white glove" delivery only to be told later that a 3k purchase was required (never mentioned during sale or my two trips to the store AND it would require that I buy two of the nursery sets I'm purchasing!)
I called to check on the status of my crib at 8 weeks, only to be told the order date was later than when I placed the order and that the delivery time was 8-14 weeks. We are now at 13 weeks post-order, and I haven't heard anything. The good news is that my expecations for an on-time delivery are low. However, my overall experience has been that these folks are incredibly slimy and untrustworthy.
SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE! – I ordered a BABY'S DREAM crib in February and received the crib in May, 14 weeks later. However, the pieces were made incorrectly and did not fit together. We ordered a replacement piece through USA BABY and 6 weeks later, they sent us the WRONG replacement piece. Not only did they get the order wrong, the replacement piece was delivered on a Friday and they conveniently decided to wait 4 days to notify us. It has been 20 weeks and we still do not have a crib. DO NOT order from USA Baby Richmond, VA. They will repeatedly delay your delivery date and claim that they are doing everything they can to get you your product. A timely delivery and acceptable service is not one of their priorities.
Woo Hoo! – Last week I received delivery of my baby's furniture and linens, SO happy!! The nursery just looks perfect, just as I had hoped. Baby is due next month! I'm very glad I planned ahead, the furniture took a while to arrive. But my sales person gave me super advise on what to do, and when. Really helpful. A must see store!
Very Nice People – When my husband and I went to USA Baby last month, we really weren't planning to buy. We saw a cheaper crib online, but when we saw the bristol collection at USA Baby, we were sold. It was more expensive, but so much nicer!! I was a little worried, because my baby was due very soon, and it takes some time to get a furniture order in. But USA Baby put my crib on a rush shipment and I got it in time! They really cared and we're so thankful for their service. I just wish they had my pack n' play in stock, oh well, they did great with the furniture!
Everything was Great! – Just picked up our furniture yesterday, and our baby's room is ready to go! The furniture they sell is just great, we're very happy with it! We spent a little more than planned, but we felt it was a smart investment over the long run. So glad we stuck to our guns and got the furniture we really wanted!
