I had an appointment last Thursday at David's Bridal on West Broad. My decision to visit this store was based off of a WONDERFUL experience that I had had with my sister at a David's Bridal in Roanoke, VA. This, unfortunately, did not live up to my expectations.
To begin, I walked in at 6:25 PM (5 minutes early) and waiting about 5 minutes to be spoken to. Then, I was asked if I had an appointment and I confirmed, sharing my name and my appointment time. She said it would be just a moment. I waiting 15 minutes for a consultant to approach me. Not a great start.
She only asked me a few questions: when was I getting married and did I have any specific dresses that I would like to try on. I told her the exact style that I was looking for, but I was getting married at the beach, so I was open to anything that would be appropriate for that destination. She sat me down with a catalogue and told me to pick out some dresses that I would like to try on. This is where the "service" ended.
This consultant was, and had been, working with another bride across from where I was sitting. I barely saw her the entire evening. I just sat there waiting for her to come back and see which dresses I had chosen. In total, I had chosen about 12 dresses to try on. She was only able to find 6. No alternatives were given, no suggestions were made, and she did not even help clip my dress to help me visualize a proper fit.
Bottom line: I am not sure why they even take appointments. I haven't felt that neglected in a place of business in quite a while. Needless to say, I will not be recommending this location to anyone.
THE BEST!!! – I went today to get my wedding dress.. I had a appointment at 12pm on sunday, by 12: 10 I had filled out paperwork and one of the guys had showed me around the store and had me fimilar with the dress lines, by 12:15 my consultant Rayna (AMAZING!) was in the dresses with us helping! Rayna did have other customers but some how she managed to make it all work and by 1:15 I had picked out my dream dress, which also happened to be on sale!! It was busy and there was a lot of people, but you are saving anywhere from $100 to $5000.. can you really be picky? I would recommend Rayna, The manager (didn't catch her name) and ANY of the staff that worked today!!
Not the place I would go to again... – I made an appointment for my first consultation on a Tuesday night. (I was told the weekends are horrible) I walked in the first night, gave them my name and was introduced to my consultant. I brought print outs of about 11 dresses I wanted to try on. I handed them to my consultant who showed me to a dressing room and then she began pulling dresses. She literally had all of them pulled within moments...I was very impresses. She was very personal and nice during the entire visit and was very patient with me as I tried them all on.
Now, skip to my second, and final visit. I rescheduled a 2nd consultation to try on my final 2 dresses of the previous visit, and to try on a couple new ones. When I showed up, again on a Tuesday evening, the place was a lot busier then before. I told them my name and my appt time (I was 10 min early) and was told someone would be with me soon. I was aggravated because obvious walk ins were being helped before me and this one lady literally had 7 children with her that were all running around and yelling. Fast forward to about 20 min after my scheduled appt and someone finally approached me. I told the woman I wanted to try on the final 4 dresses that I told the previous consultant I wanted to save for this appt, and that I had a few more. Expecting to receive the same service...I was SHOCKED when she told me I could go find the dresses. I was like do what? She had NO idea what 4 dresses I was talking about (because apparently nothing was noted) and had NO interested in looking for the new ones I wanted to see. Her words to me were "well you can find them easier since you know what they look like." I literally stared in shock. Have you NOT looked around at the 5 million dresses in here? Overwhelmed and frustrated by her lack of help, my best friend and I proceeded to search the racks. Sure, I had the model numbers AND pictures, but considering they do not rack dresses in ANY order...it is like looking for needles in a haystack. Luckily for me, after 30 min, my best friend and I found 2 from my previous visit that I wanted to look. The consultant managed to find ONE of the new ones I wanted to look at, and out of frustration and aggravation, I just started grabbing dresses.
When she got me to the dressing room, I had to remind her that I needed the bra/slip. She goes and gets those and comes back and then dissappears while I try on the dresses. She showed up here and there to look, all the while telling me she was looking for the other dresses I said I wanted to try. Needless to say, she never found the dresses, because I never actually saw her go near the dresses, and she wasn't ANY help AT ALL.
The ONLY thing that made me feel less stressed, was when I purchased my dress that night, it rang up $200 off the price.
Needless to say, stay away from this place. It is chaotic.
I liked it... – Courtney provided EXCELLENT customer service! I went in several times to make up my mind. I tried on about a dozen dresses and she helped me in and out of each dress.
I did go mid-week. I stopped in a couple times for color swatches on the weekend and they were EXTREMELY busy. I reccomend a week-day visit!
My Matron-of-Honor went to one in her hometown in Maryland and had a good experience there as well!
Don't honor appointments, unprofessional – I get to David’s about 15 minutes early. When I walk in, it is very crowded (which I expected for a weekend), but all I can hear are screaming kids, frazzled moms, and crazy children running rampant amongst the wedding gowns. I don’t have kids. And when I am in “adult” places, I get very annoyed with rowdy kids who should be home with a babysitter. A grocery store is fine; a bridal shop is not. My fiancé even called me, confused, at one point because he thought I was at a playground. So the environment alone put me in a stressed and irritated state of mind. Anyways, I go up to the table, tell them my name, appointment time, and that I registered online a week ago. Well, they tell me their computers are slow and they don’t have my information yet (even though I registered 1 week ago); a little odd given modern technology, but no big deal. So I fill out a form, again. Luckily I arrived early. Upon completion, they told me they will “page” me over the intercom when a room becomes available and in the meantime, I can browse the store. My friends and I use this opportunity to save future time and look by ourselves for the 3 dresses I already found online that I wanted to try on. After 30 minutes of tag-and-style-number hunting, we found them all. So we hung them up on a random rack and waited. And waited. 4:30 rolls around (30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time). I asked them nicely, what the deal was. Apparently they were too bombarded with walk-ins and brides trying on dresses for hours. I understand that, but as the responsible one who did the right thing by making an appointment, I shouldn’t be the one waiting that long. So finally a sales consultant comes over a few minutes later. She only asked me a few things about what I wanted in a gown, so she had a vague idea. But I made her job a little easier by already having the gowns I wanted to try by myself. We get to the dressing room. It is very small, with no mirror inside. I could only fit in there with 2 wedding dresses at a time. The only mirrors were outside. I was instructed to try on the gowns by myself, which was fine, but it made me wonder how many people have ripped them before me because the consultant didn’t supervise the fitting. Some of the dresses also smelled bad, like the other people who had it on before me didn’t wear deodorant. A few had stains too, from make-up and fake-tanning cream. I understand that they are samples, but they need to be cleaned or replaced every now and then. I didn’t happen to like any of the 3 dresses I tried on. So the consultant kept running out to the floor to get more dresses for me to try on. This was okay at first, but she started grabbing dresses that I specifically said I didn’t want as far as style. She even tried to convince me at one point that I need a headpiece and veil because in my photos, I won’t look like a bride. I am getting married at the beach and I want a simple flower. That’s what I want, don’t try to convince me it’s not good enough! Finally, I just told her I was too exhausted to try on any more gowns. I was friendly and polite the entire time, but I was clearly frustrated. I am pretty easy-going and definitely not a “Bridezilla”, but I just had certain expectations for a bridal shop. After all, it’s my wedding dress: the most expensive and beautiful gown I’ll ever wear. And I just envisioned some level of professionalism and “elegance”. This was a nightmare.
The experience at Davids was not enjoyable at all. Even if you don’t find the right dress, the experience is supposed to be fun and beneficial in some way. It was exhausting and I felt very pressured, like they were just trying to get a sale out of me. I wouldn’t recommend David’s Bridal to anyone, unless they go in the middle of a weekday, don’t mind kids screaming, and really need an a-line dress on a budget.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE PLACE TO SHOP – Whatever you do, stay away from this place. I have been in the store twice & called several times.
I can honestly say that in all my years I have never been treated so rudely. This is in the store & over the telephone. I do not know how they stay in business. I eventually ordered a gown on-line, I ordered two in order to make a choice between them and but of course the same thing, I cannot even get a call back frm them to return a gown, and you must have a RMA number to do do, within 14 days, or they will not take it back. SInce they wont return calls to give the number, isnt that kind of like stealing?? Guess since they are so rude thats the only way they can make a sale. STAY CLEAR!
Service is awful – I went to David's Bridal in June of '08 because we were putting our wedding together in a month, so there was no time to order. I decided to go here because I had shopped there years ago when my daughter was in high school for her prom dresses. Boy, was this a complete disappointment this time around. The consultant I was put with was pushy and rude. I had an idea of what I was looking for and looked at several dresses before deciding on one. I did get my bridesmaid dresses from here; however, they didn't need the alterations department. I will say that the alteration process for my dress was pleasant, unlike buying it. Now, my daughter is getting married and while home for spring break, she wanted to go and look at dresses there. The consultant was nice at first, and then she told him that her wedding wasn't going to be until May of '11. All she wanted to do was try on some dress styles that she had chosen to see what would look best on here. He became rude did not help, except for pulling some dresses. He was running around helping others looking at bridesmaid gowns because they were in weddings coming up. I feel that, even if her wedding is 2 years away, she should still be given the same type of service as other brides. When he was cleaning up the dressing room, he walked right by us with the dresses and didn't even acknowledge my daughter, myself, my mother, or the maid of honor; he did not bother to ask if he could be any further assistance. Service here for new brides and their families should be a pleasant and happy experience, instead their customer service here is very weak and just plain poor.
Terrible customer service at David's Bridal – WOW! How does David's Bridal stay in business? From going to the one in Monroeville, PA to the David's Bridal in Richmond, Va...they are mean and have no business ethic!!! My aunt was treated terrible. I went to the Richmond,Va David's Bridal and even phoned them and they are even mean on the phone! It's sad that in this day and age they are even aloud to serve the public. My advice to all the Brides-to-be, goes somewhere else if you want your day to be special!! They treat you like you are a heard of cattle!!! SOOOO SAD!!!
Wedding dress hunting ground for real-world brides on a budget. Princesses need not apply. – In Short
A chic, sleek boutique, it's not. But those willing to look carefully will likely find a big-time bargain. The staff is helpful and knows the merchandise but doesn't provide extensive one-on-one attention or advice. Stores (particularly on weekends) can be swamped with brides-to-be. David's specializes in beaded satin A-lines and simple lace sheaths that just hit the $500 mark. Most labels are tasteful but of medium-quality: Gloria Vanderbilt, Lady Eleanor, Oleg Cassini and the likes.
Not worth your time. – I must say I absolutely did not want a dress from David's Bridal. Lo and behold the procrastinator I am, with time not my friend, I needed a dress soon. I wanted an instant gratification. To make a long story short I settled going there just to see what I can find. It was prom season so it was packed with other people. The racks and racks of dresses actually discouraged me, I was overwhelmed. However, with three friends in-tow, we pulled 5 dresses. Found the perfect one. With my friends along, I didnt even notice the weak customer service I received. The consultant had other customers, so it was not personal what-so-ever. However, brought the dress. Came back to pick up dress and try on for my mother. I had the same consultant, customer service was weak again. Another consultant was absolutely rude to me and my sister in front of my consultant, didnt receive an apology for her co-worker's rudeness. All in all, I hated the experience, love the dress. Got my bridal party dresses elsewhere. Getting my alternations done elsewhere as well. I would not suggest this store to anyone!
