Identity Crisis – When you go to a BBQ establishment you expect the star of the show to be good "Q". At Jakes this isn;t the case.
Between my wife and I we tested the pulled pork, chopped pork, chicken and brisket. The pork must have sat in dirty dishwater all day it was just plain tasteless and awful. The chicken wasn't much better. I could not discern if what was passed to me as brisket was actually brisket. Looked more like bacon with no taste. I'm sad to say if you are looking for authenic "Q" this is not the place.
With that said both of us were impressed with all the sides with the exception of the beans. Onion rings awesome, fries superb, steamed veggies fantastic, garlic toast the bomb.
We tried the "Starter Sampler". This was very welll done but wished it had more of a "Q" theme vice a "Sports Bar Theme". Nix the chicken wings and potato skins and add hushpuppies and fried okra.
I mentioned identity crisis in the title because I'm not sure whether Jakes wants to be a "Q" place or a Sports Bar. Additionally if Jakes would make the effort in preparation of the quest of honor **read ALL THE BBQ** as they appear to do in the sides this could be and outstanding place to dine.
However presently I'm saddenned to say its not up to my average "Q" standards.
Editorial Review by Christy Buena – Slow-cooked barbecue is served at the kid-friendly restaurant that offers take out, catering and signature barbecue sauces.
