Traffic camera - not many stores – Mall isn't very big, and as the other reviewer stated the traffic camera will ticket you making a right turn into the mall if you don't stop. This happened to me and the fine they are trying to a** rape me for is $489. Needless to say hell will freeze over before I pay such a fine, and I hope the court will be reasonable about this and reduce it.
Very very very expensive shopping – A cup of coffee can easily cost $1500, when you consider the traffic camera gone haywire at the light on the way in.
The darn thing, run by a private company trying to make as much money as possible from citations, tickets you for making a *legal* right turn on red into the mall. Fighting it is a hassle; I have not gone to court yet on mine, but word in online forums is it is very hard to beat, particularly if you didn't stop for three seconds.
This is a perfectly ordinary mall, frankly far below average, and is not worth in any case being subjected to a traffic camera gone haywire.
There is an article about this in the local paper which you can find by google, though I can't cite it here since they don't allow links.
I would suggest that everyone simply boycott this mall until they turn off this camera.
Average mall for the average person... – To be completely and blatantly honest, it's a normal "Average Joe" mall. It has a food court, a good selection of department stores, and some pretty interesting and popular retail stores inside. The mall is basically in the center of a larger shopping center off of 41st and Clares St.
Some notable shopping places are Macy's, Gottschalks, Gap, Bath & Body Works, Wet Seal, Foot Locker, Journey's, Men's Warehouse, GameStop, Vans, Abercrombie & Fitch, etc. The mall has announced that Kohl's and Coach (purse store) are now opening up stores there, which are expected to be done and opened in Spring 2009.
Some notable eateries are Sbarro, Cinnabon, Subway, Carl's Jr., Wetzel's Pretzel's, Starbucks, etc.
You can take a bus from Santa Cruz Metro station or Watsonville Metro station. If you have a car, there is plenty of on-site parking.
This mall is located in an interesting part of Capitola. There are some rather unsavory characters that lurk around at night, but it's not really much of a worry during the day. But always make sure to stay aware of your surrounds, and bring a friend.
I would recommend this mall for people who are looking for a simple solution for their basic shopping needs. For the avid shopper, I would suggest looking elsewhere (perhaps Valley Fair in San Jose?).
