Great Cozy Place & fresh food – I've been going to the Wine Cellar for so many years and the food is consistently fresh and wonderful! I go specifically for the fondue though. I also enjoy the cozy and private feeling of the ambience. The fondue is by far my favorite thing there and I like to follow it up with a nice fresh salad and if I have room, maybe a dessert chocolate fondue too.
Last weekend I was actually up in time to enjoy Sunday Brunch. I loved the fruit and pastry bar and my avocado and tomato benedict was delux. Also notable were the fresh potatoes. At other places one of my pet peeves are soggy and luke warm potatoes. None of these things here though. They were actually made fresh and were piping hot.
I always enjoy The Wine Cellar and am apprehensive to do a review on it because I don't want it to become ruined by huge crowds.
A Big 0 – I travel a lot and have had the opportunity to experience some of the best fine dining establishments from New York to Paris. Never in any of my years of travel going to some of the worlds finest restaurants have I ever been turned away because I was dining alone. On a Wednesday evening I showed up at the Wine Cellar restaurant for dinner and was turned away because I was alone. The hostess offered me take-out as an alternative. I was humiliated.
This restaurant is a big zero. I will be sure to tell any of my business associates about my experience, and also mention all the poor ratings mentioned on this site, when asked for recommendations in this area.
We apologize for the delay, but we just received access to 'Owner Response'. We never have been in the habit of turning away a guest because they were dining alone. In fact, we have many valued patrons that dine alone on a regular basis. The Wine Cellar had been extremely busy during the weeks preceding the holidays and the particular night you came in was no exception. We are terribly sorry if the hostess did not effectively communicate to you why we were unable to seat you at that time and made you feel awkward in any way for dining alone. We have attempted to take every precaution to prevent this unfortunate experience from reoccurring in the future. We hope that if you happen to read this, you may contact management directly so that we can personally apologize and perhaps talk you into giving us another chance to provide you with a pleasant dining experience. Sincerely, Wine Cellar Restaurant
Pretty good! – I was impressed by the service and atmosphere. The sirloin I had was a little on the dry side, but overall everything was good. I came here for a birthday dinner. The desserts are excellent. It's as the editorial said, it's a cozy basement restaurant.
I visited the Wine Cellar for a birthday celebration with a large group. Upon arrival, the organizer informed the hostess she had one more to add.
The hostess ultimately caused a scene, saying "...it's an inconvenience when you make huge changes to your reservation...", and "let me go figure out how to make this work...." Any restaurant, when faced with this common request, should be able to handle it in a discreet, courteous fashion. This was not the case. Instead, the hostess nearly berated the organizer! As much as we tried to enjoy ourselves, sadly it set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The Wine Cellar's hostess turned out to be an owner as well. Very surprising. A guest at the table turned out to be a wine consultant who refers clientele here for their reputation. This experience will cease future recommendations to The Wine Cellar. Unfortunate.
Never again! – Booked a dinner for a birthday(17 total). Upon arrival, asked to add 1 seat to a completely empty dining room. Once we were seated, the OWNER came out and, rather than thank us for choosing their restaurant, yelled at me, from the other end of the table, explaining how much of an inconvenience it was that we added 2 to our count (we only added 1). Unfortunately, her angry tirade set the mood of our party. Waiter was rude to all guests and, at one point, slammed a dinner plate down, in frustration, when one guest switched seats. Before leaving, I spoke with the owner to give feedback and thought she would attempt to apologize. I was wrong! Instead, she was argumentative and felt that her behavior was justified. If you're looking for a restaurant where customers are treated as a priority, do not go to the Wine Cellar.
Food Great, Poor Service – Attended for a special birthday dinner. The food was definitely enjoyable. The pork chop with the pinot wine sauce was a palette pleaser. The wine list is quite extensive as would be expected for a restaurant called wine cellar. Various varietals and price ranges to choose from. I agree with another reviewer, decor is on the cheesy side...Marie Callendars caliber. The management staff and service received was rude and made me feel like a second class citizen. They were unaccomodating initially and never felt the need to apologize for their rudeness.
Great Experience on Important Day – I selected this restaurant based on the reviews, hoping for a great meal and service. We got both. The lamb chops were excellent, as was the fondue. We also had a great merlot. I can't say enough about the friendly and prompt service. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Steaks – I have ate at the Wine Cellar a couple of times. Most recentley last Monday and always end up ordering a steak and am never disappointed. They are perfectly cooked and full flavored.
I had the Ribeye most recentley and the Filet the two times before that. My wife cycles between Lamb chops and Short Ribs both also very good. Great restaurant will be back again shortly.
Many Redeeming Qualities – The winde cellar is a fine restaurant. I recently took my father there for his birthday. We enjoyed the ambiance of their outdoor patio, their fine wine list, and the excellent food. My monkfish wash prepared perfectly, and he really enjoyed his spareribs. Quite nice!
A cozy basement restaurant serving Italian and American cuisine provides a uniquely romantic experience. – The Scene
Configured like a wine cellar, this cozy restaurant in the basement of Old Town Shopping Center offers Italian and American staples in a pleasing date-night atmosphere. The restaurant makes use of nooks and crannies to create a comfortable, relaxed ambience conducive to hand-holding across the table.
Cheese fondue is the signature dish; the traditional Swiss and Gruyere mix and the equally fine cheddar and ale blend are best with sliced cubes of fresh French bread. The wine-grilled artichoke appetizer served with green and gold aioli makes a great pairing with the restaurant's large selection of wine. Any one of the pizzas makes for a gooey, filling prize and the Fisherman's pasta with baby shrimp, mussels, prawns and clams is a meaty and succulent mix of sea flavors.
