A Downtown Los Gatos Favorite – I was surprised to see the negative reviews and felt the need to submit my first ever restaurant review to defend this wonderful place. The atmosphere is casual and festive; the food is consistently great; and even the house margaritas are very tasty, and actually contain recognizable amounts of tequila, unlike margaritas can be at other Mexican restaurants. It's actually the only Mexican restaurant where I will order the house margarita! We've been going to Pedros on a regular basis for years, and I even had my husband's surprise 30th birthday party there, with friends and family waiting in the somewhat-sectioned-off back room. We visit often with family and groups of friends. Family favorites include Salmon de Morelia, Mole Rojo and Grilled Veggie Burrito. I highly recommend this place for a casual date, a gathering of friends, or a family dinner out.
Horrible Service! – We have tried this restaurant three different times. The first time it was a busy Sat. night and we had slow service and had to hunt down our server to get the check. The second time was a week night (read: not busy), we were seated by a girl who took our drink order, brought the wrong drinks then we never saw her again. Our server, male, took our dinner order and said he would fix the drinks, and then forgot until he brought our food. Our third visit was the final straw. We told our server (same one as 2nd visit) we wanted our check, proceeded to watch him take three orders and bring out drinks to all three tables, then SERVE THEIR FOOD!!! before I got up to tell him to bring the check --he would take off in the opposite direction of our table before we could catch his eye. The worst: we asked to speak to the manager about the poor service and she never came to the front to talk to us after at least five minutes of waiting...will never, ever go back!
Great Food, decor, and atmosphere. – My wife and I eat here often. Great food, decor, and atmosphere. THere is a nice little bar with lots of easily accesible chips to munch on while you are waiting for a table. Best seats in the house are in the covered terrace facing the main street.
The good reviews are kidding, right? – We waited close to an hour (started at '20 minute wait') for this 'upscale' mexican cuisine, and let's just say I wont be waiting again. The people were friendly, and it was a 'fun' spot (if you like average margaritas flowing, loud drunk people laughing their way through your meal....), but the food was very below par. The steak on the fajitas was way overdone and chewy, and my wife's enchiladas might as well have been from the frozen section at the supermarket.
Standout seafood dishes will cure your burrito blues at this upscale cantina. – The Scene
The Mission-style decor strives for casual elegance and succeeds with a weathered indoor-outdoor feel, complete with tile roofs above the dining areas. Veer left at the hostess station to reach the bar for after-work margaritas, or do lunch with a sidewalk view through large windows set into the colorful stucco walls. Service is attentive and friendly.
The menu offers a broad range of reliably good Mexican dishes--served with a healthy portion of Mexican cheese, queso fresco--or slightly more refined seafood specialties. Grilled prawns arrive atop a creamy cilantro vinaigrette and are enough for two to share over margaritas before dinner. Move onto Tres Pedros, a spicy, flavorful mix of beef, chicken and cheese enchiladas served with piquant tomatillo sauce. Steak fajitas are a cut above the industry standard, with tender, smoky meat. The fried ice cream, surrounded in gooey caramel, is a sumptuous finale.
Great Place – I went hog-wild here! The people and food were great... install Ping-Pong tables in the bar area:-) I will always return! Service is fantastic!
Fourth Time the Charm – As a resident of Los Gatos for over a decade, I've dined at Pedros on a number of occasions. Each time I left disappointed in the service, the quality of the food or the quantity. I hadn't been since 1999.
Times have changed! Had an enjoyable dinner last night. Tried the Tres Pedros enchilladas and was quite pleased. The enchilladas- cheese, beef and chicken were tasty and the correct portion size. In additon, our basket of chips were never half full.
In addition, the bartender and service staff were great.
