terrible service – I ordered "halibut and chips", which apparently equates to a double order of halibut for $15. I also ordered some shrimp without fries. I was shocked at the $26 dollar bill. When I received my food, I asked for some cocktail sauce to accompany the shrimp, and I was told it would cost me another .25 or .50 cents depending on what size i wanted. I'm not re-running my credit card for a quarter purchase. This is rediculous. Good customer service would have apologized for not asking me about this when I initially ordered, then go ahead and make an exception and give me some cocktail sauce. Instead, I was told "well, you should have ordered it". This is why I rarely frequent this establishment - they nickle and dime their way through your bank account.
Great Fish and Chips – Spuds has really good fish and chips. The chowder is not the best though. Also you have to pay for ketchup and tartor sauce. The location is nice.
Why change? – Spud used to be my favorite fish and chip place ( for the last 50 years ) in the Seattle area, until today Mon. 9 - 14!!!! Went to the Juanita Spud for lunch with my son and grandaughter. Lunch for the three of us came to over $40!!!!! I don't mind paying for the good old Spud fish, but the garbage they served I wouldn't feed to my enemies...They changed the fish to some over breaded Ivors fillet type of garbage. The old Spud was tails.. I'll never go back to the Juanita Spud, I just hope the Alki or Green Lake stores are still serving the same good old Spud fish!!!!!
Run by juvenile local teens – Today, on 6/26/08 at about 9:15PM while riding my bike past Juanita Beach some little boy who looked to be closing shop inside of Spuds Fish n' Chips thought it would be funny to get on the intercom, which projects outside, and tell me that I'm gay. "Yeah, you on the bike. You're a h*mo [this site will not let me write the word]. You're bike is gay." Not that I am, but what if I were? Is this how Spuds wants to represent itself? I know I won't give them any more of my business, and that's too bad too because I have for 33 years and I hope you won't either. Oh, and I did go back to see if the little boy would talk. The little sh*t would not come out. He only snickered from behind the counter and locked door.
Better than ivars – Better to go to this place on a sunny day because seating is limited inside.
The staff is a little flaky because they are all in highschool. We ended up with 1 extra order because they didn't know we took ours when they already called it (so that's a plus).
It's a little over priced, but that's what you get in kirkland.
Our new favorite for quickly fixed fish – I've been hearing about this place since I moved to the area, years and years ago. On a recent sunny Spring Friday, we finally tried it out. The recommendations were right on the money. The food was great and the line, though formidable, moved quickly. They know how to take your order, fry it up and get it in your hands before you know it.
The food was mostly great. The fish was nicely cooked, though a little bland. At least it wasn't overly battered or breaded. That was just right. The fried shrimp were the best we've had in a while. They were also lightly battered, allowing the really great flavor to come through. The French fries were tasty and not greasy. And the onion rings were likewise cooked to a nice tenderness, with a fine sweetness. We must find out if they are Walla Wallas.
Add to all this the fine, albeit homely, location and outside seating across from Juanita Beach Park and we had a very enjoyable evening. Now that we live in Kirkland, Spud Fish & Chips will be giving Ivar's a run for our money.
Retro-cool take-out spot does fried fish just right. – In Short
A short walk from the water, this is the perfect warm picnic for cooler sunny days. These family-owned fish-and-chip joints specialize in ling cod, although halibut, salmon, oysters, scallops, clams, prawns, popcorn shrimp, and even chicken are on the menu. There are some freebies, such as garlic vinegar and Tabasco for the asking, but when it comes to tartar sauce, expect to cough up another 17 cents.
