Kumon's Not The Problem, Just This Center Is – Kumon is what it is: a way to get the kill and drills we all grew up on that led to math proficiency, but has been taken out of many math curriculums. My kids went to this center under different management for 2 years and have been to the center under current management for over 6 months. Kumon has never been my kids favorite activity, but now it is just horrible. My kids are frequently there for 1 1/2 hours (30-45 mins is standard) and have come out telling me how the director has yelled at children to the point my kids have told her she was only making the situation worse. While I can recommend Kumon, I suggest you find a different center.

Not a tutoring program – If you're looking for something to keep math at the forefront of daily activities, this is a good choice. However, it is not really a tutoring program. For $100 per month you are blessed with daily worksheets which you must explain and grade at home. Once per week your child goes in to a very chaotic center. "Tutors" are young kids who seem more interested in texting and socializing than in helping students. The center recently went through an ownership change which seemed positive, but the Kumon method is nothing but repetition that sits squarely on the parents shoulders--and you pay for it. Students are expected to repeat a level several times before they progress. The law of repetition alone says that at some point they will learn their math tables. The center is inflexible with busy schedules or the need to miss your regularly scheduled test day. If you feel the price is worth it for the curriculum, then sign up. But don't be misled that your child will receive individual attention. That part is mediocre at best.
