Seattle >Food & Dining > Icon Grill
Great dinner and happy hour. This on of my husband and I's favorite places to go. For dinner the prices are pretty reasonable. The food is great. It mostly has comfort foods, but if you like seared tuna this is the place to go! The meatloaf also rocks. The best is if you are around for happy hour. Half priced drinks AND half price food. If you dont get a drink the price is like going to mcdonalds.
Great Atmosphere!. We just went to Icon Grill for the first time this weekend. The atmosphere was excellent, hard to beat. It was quiet (a Sunday night). He had the meatloaf and I had the fried chicken. The dark meat chicken was great, but the breast was so dry I couldn't even eat it. He loved his meatloaf and said it was the best he'd ever had. We will go back here, I just won't get the fried chicken. You can't beat the atmosphere.
A true Seattle ICON.
If you live in Seattle or are just visiting, this is a must-dine experience!
FOOD: Take your favorite comfort food, throw in a dash of Southern flair, a heaping pile of Seattle panache, and all Northwest ingredients and you've got the Icon Grill. One of my favorite entrees (that's not a permanent resident of the menu) is their Peppercorn Flat Iron Steak w/ Roquefort Cheese Sauce. This flavor explosion of a hunk of meat is served over a bed of horseradish potato cakes. Another classic that's always around is their Molasses-Glazed, Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf. *drool* Fabulous cocktails and other unusual items (such as their famous Mac & Cheese) make this a frequent night out for many Seattlites.
LOCATION: North-central downtown shopping district, across the street from the Westin Hotel.
ATMOSPHERE: Also very Seattle. Lots of glass art adorns the tables, walls, and is even hanging in large mesh nets from the ceiling. Some might say you have to go just to see the decor!
Kind of smelly. Great location. Staff is into themselves..
The second time I went to Icon I had hoped for a better experience.
The bar staff (where I ate dinner) was too engrossed in their own conversation among themselves and with their regulars. Their regulars I suspect were more their friends than customers.
Parking is a virtual impossibility; I doubt I will go back.
The food did not warrant their prices at all; I suspect they are just covering overhead.
After reading some of the reviews, I was shocked that some people love this place as much as they do.
I may have had just a bad couple of experiences. It probably depends on the evening, server, and circumstance.
Good ambiance, poor service, average food. Made an online reservation for 4 people at 8pm. Got there early in hopes we could get in early. No chance because it was Saturday night, oh well. A friend brought an additional friend who I had not planned on. They bumped us to a larger table for five without problem or much of a delay. The staff in the front are nice and accommodating. The waiter was older (about 50) had horrible service. It took at least 10 minutes before he took our drink/appetizer order. And another 10 minutes before we got the drinks. He said to the table... "well I guess I will have to stand in front of them and make them make it". He kept making odd remarks like that all service. When he finally brought my mixed drink he brought me a bloody mary and said that is what the bar tender told him my drink was even when I told him originally what was in the drink. Mine was similar to a white russian, but with tequila, and he brought a bloody mary. Not even close. A small bowl of bread was dropped off, NOT enough for 5 people. Water was finally delivered 20 minutes after sitting down, just prior to getting our drink order. We ordered two appetizers when we ordered our drinks. Only one arrived, never got the second. When another staff member took the empty appetizer plate I asked for another bowl of bread, which was never delivered. We sat for 30 minutes before the waiter took our meal order. The appetizer of fried mac & cheese, was okay. My Cesar salad was very dry, hardly any dressing, was just average with the addition of more dressing. My meal of meat loaf which is suppose to be a specialty was very overcooked, with a charred exterior wrapped in tough bacon. The mashed potatoes was a very small dollip (come on guys, potatoes are cheap!) The gravy used to hide the burnt meat loaf and potatoes was tasteless. Everyone else's meal was similar, okay but not great. The bill was a bit over $200 and not worth it. The waiter failed to even ask if we wanted dessert. Go figure!
Some of the Best Food in the City!!!!!!!!.
I travel to Seattle alot for business. I have been to a lot of restaurants in town. The best part about icon is that it is not just a restaurant it is a dining experience. I love their wine list, their ever changing menu and their great service. I have noticed some bad reviews...but I have been there so many times and I have no idea what they are talking about... I love it!!!!!
Try the Zephyrtini, the BBQ chicken Pizza and their pastas...they are great!!!
Never Ever Go Here! Ever! Hideous Food and Horrid Service! Go to Daily Grill Instead!!!.
I'd been here a couple times & only ate in the bar. Truth be told, the service was always slow. But this time, the service was downright awful. It was my mom's birthday. I figured I'd try the restaurant. They sat us upstairs, at the "extra special" table, or so the hostess called it. Extra special was right. We enjoyed the lovely odor of the bathroom freshener & watched everyone come up & down to the restroom.
I made a comment to the waiter that the hostess shouldn't present the table as wonderful. He just grinned & made a comment about how some people like, some don't. No action...just a comment. Minutes later I had him move us downstairs. Better location, with still no apology. Not even a comment of concern. Then our horrid food came. Extremely disappointing. Luckily my mom liked her dish. My sister's friend chicken was almost inedible. Tasted like it was soaked in three day old fry oil. She sent it back...again with no regret or apology from the waiter. My sister's Fetuccini was gross, with the extra special chicken. It was smoked chicken, something not indicated on the menu. Not a very good taste. My hangar steak was edible, but nothing special. We had brought the cake with us to do the celebration but decided to take it home instead. Still, no apology or anything from the waiter. We paid the bill, left a note of regret, and went on our merry way. Not a word from the waiter or manager he was gossiping with. They were actually pointing at us in their chatter. Unbelievable!!! Don't waste your money. The food is not worth it. Go to Daily Grill at the Sheraton. Fabulous Food and wonderful staff. You can't go wrong with Daily Grill!
Best Happy Hour and Ambiance Around-- GREAT FOR A DATE!. My husband took me on a date here the other night, what a wonderful atmosphere!!! Not many restaurants are as pleasing to the eyes as they are to the stomach...this was one of those places. Try the Chicken BBQ Pizza and the Zephyertini! The service was GREAT! And I really felt like I had a dining expierence, not just food.........go downtown and find this culinary heaven!
Avoid every night. I've heard that this place had great mac&cheese so one night when we were thinking of a place for dinner we decided to stop by. We won't be back. The service was horrible and we waited probably 40 minutes for our food on a slow night. The prices led us to beleive the food would be great. How wrong we were. The food was horrible. The 'medium' steak came out medium well. The fried chicken was fried beyond recognition. The stuffed chicken breast seemed to adhere to the idea that there is no problem in culinary science that can't be solved with more salt. Stay away.
Twice Bitten, Never again!!!!. Well, To start with my wife and I went here for the first time on our first wedding anivessary. I had heard good things about this place, and had been interested in Going for a long time. So we showed up and it started at the front door, rude host, he basically ignored us for about two minutes. Our waitress while not rude treated us as if we were an after thought. The food was terrible, Their Signature Mac and Cheese lacked anything in the way of real flavour, the calimari apatizer was way over done and super salty, I ordered the Fired Chicken, which was burnt, my wife ordered the Ahi, was way too salty, and a very poor cut. So anyway, our first time was terrible. My wife contacted the owner to let him know how bad our experience was. He was very concerned and sent us a gift card. It was no suprise when the gift card came and it was good at applebys as well as Icon. So, that says alot, I think the food at applebys is better. Anyway, my wife and I had this giftcard and figured we would give it another chance. This friday, I was off early from work and we went to se Pirates 3 at the cinerama. when the movie was over, we figured hey we have the card, our parking is good till 10pm why not go to Icon and give it a 2nd chance. Well, it was worse, the food was as bad as it was the first time and our waitress was Soooo rude and treated us like we were a bother. TERRIBLE, we will never go back or go to their other location called zephyr in Kent. I am amazed that people go here. To be honest I am a big heavy food loving guy who will eat just about anything. I will never eat here again. Dont waste your money at this place. Go anywhere else there are too many other good places close by to eat here.
