Visit this Post Alley classic anytime but especially in the heart of winter for a jolt of Jacquelina’s x-rated Callebaut hot cocoa laced with peppermint schnapps & marshmallows or on a summer day for a refreshing cocktail on the deck. Live entertainment in the lounge is a plus.
Our sunny summer days are few and precious, and this a worthy spot for outdoor sipping. Enjoyed an esoteric white wine from Alto Adige, too.
Everybody rightly gushes about the fantastic deck, but summer's short in Seattle and The Pink Door shines brightest during gray months when canoodling couples can share a two-top in the corner and watch the evening cabernet. (Go Sundays for the trapeze artist.) The dining room that overlooks the stage is a great place to sup, too. The house lasagna is always a good bet, but the seafood preparations are also excellent.
During sunny weather, head to the deck. During the dark of winter, raise your spirits with a visit to the Saturday night burlesque show.
Over the top RUDE about reservations – Called to make a reservation of 12 on a Thursday night. They do not take reservations over 8. I asked if I could make two reservations of 6. We would all have to show up by 5:00 in order to do that. And she was extremely RUDE. Was really looking forward to it. Now I will never go back. Shouldn't they want our business in this economy?
Terrible time getting reservations for 8 – Just so you know ....
if they seat you at 5 then you only have 2 hours to dine
you will be kicked out at 7 because they have to get another seating in and then another one by 9
They are on a schedule and it is not yours!
Service is everything. – We tried the Pink Door in downtown Seattle for lunch for the first time in about a year.
We were promptly seated no problem. After being seated we waited 10+ minutes before anyone came to our table. Tables that were seated after us had already been attended to and even ordered.
After a long wait the server came by. We ordered a simple bottle of sparkling water. 10 minutes later it had still not appeared.
Not the level of service you would expect when your paying for non a cheap lunch. We left and headed over to Matt's.
Excellent Everything! – I just received a call to confirm our reservation this evening from the exceptionally helpful Sarah - which reminded me that I have been meaning to write a review for months! On a day like today - you simply need to be outside and celebrating on the porch at the Pink Door is one of the best places to be (and you CAN make a reservation for outdoor service). A few months back when we had the first nice weather I had a friend visit from CA. I knew we wanted to be outside, but completely forgot that she was vegan. As always The Pink Door was perfect! Peter Kingsley and the chef offered and prepared delicious vegan, wheat-free options in addtion to their always yummy menu selections. If you haven't yet discovered The Pink Door - you must. It will soon be one of your favorite spots in Seattle!
Favorite – one of our favorite restaurants in Seattle. If you haven't tried it yet, you really should.
Not what i remembered – I had many fond memories of the excellent Italian menu and intimate atmosphere. Sadly we discovered that neither applied last night. Walking in without a reservation, the hostess was surprised that we would be happy with a small table near the center of the restaurant. Now we know why -- it felt as though we were dining in the middle of the interstate as people constantly rushed in and out, brushing against us and the table repeatedly, the bread basket nearly taking a tumble more than once. The atmosphere would be vastly improved with sound deadening and a better layout.
As we commonly do when dining out, we brought a bottle of our own favorite wine. But we were told that the uncorking fee would be an outrageous $20. This fee exceeds the wholesale price of many bottles on the Pink Door's wine list, extensive and well-selected though it may be. Extremely poor management decision!
The menu has some unique items, but none particularly innovative or prepared in ways that would justify the prices. We were intrigued by one of the appetizers on the menu, but sadly our waitress forgot to bring it. The lasagna was good, but hardly befitting the price. The risotto was poor - far too much oil and very oversalted. At the price charged, we would have expected a vegetable or a dinner salad, but none were included with the dinners. The most delicious thing on the table, believe it or not, was the bread. The only thing that could have made the bread more perfect would be its delivery directly from the oven.
The service, except for the forgotten appetizer, was acceptable. The poor waitress seemed apologetic about the ridiculous uncorking policy, however, her one mistake seemed to have put her out of rhythm and on edge the rest of the evening.
There were simply too many fundamental problems to give the Pink Door a better rating. I sincerely hope that the management makes the changes needed to ameliorate the disappointments.
Yummy, Stimulating and Affordable! – Wowzah! So yum I had to write! Can't believe the doofus who complained about the leaves! I LOVED the leaves on the floor, and the sassy idiosyncratic decor here: there's obviously a free spirit in charge. I was at the Pink Door twice in the past month, and both times had the most divine food, accompanied one night with a hella tight band of 3 guys playing retro mod music and the next time with pretty strippers taking it all (not quite) off! The new old chef chef has put a wonderful new gloss on the already delicious menu at our standby for a fabulous night out, The Pink! Oh my stars, the succulent fish we ate! A wild mushroom pasta with a touch of cream was like, well, I never wanted it to end. Have you tasted that Bagna Cauda appetizer, fresh veggies you dip in this yummy warm sauce? My mouth waters just thinking about it! What about those absolutely pristine oysters on the half with the iced pink peppercorn vinagrette? My all time favorite is their Bolognaise sauce, just like a trip to Italy on a plate. They now also have a fixed price 4 course menu that, even though I didn't try it, looks like a great deal, especially with a group. The place is sparkle-y, bubbling with romance and gaiety. Lots of fancy cocktails traveling by, and desserts to wallow in like a magic pumpkin cheesecake that turned my man into a swooning prince! The wait-staff, although busy bees, are always darling and helpful. And they are all just as interesting-looking as the place, very individual artsy types. Hey, you sad people who think you need it all to be predictable, LIVE a little on the warm side, and check out this grand dame of Seattle fun (they just celebrated 27 years! How many places in Seattle can say that?), our still favorite place to get cozy or meet a group.
not worth the time – Not only was the waitstaff rude but the food was over price. I had the mushroom pasta and it was like a salt lick. I don't know how the pink door has made it this long in business. Don't have the whole fish it is inconsistent and old tasting. Which is amazing they are in the market. And don't even look at the plates the food is served on there is a reason the lights are low. And I guess that if there are leaves on the floor then no one knows the floor is dirty. They should close and open something better and a better value in that place.
I finally love my hair! – I found this salon online and was surprised because I always thought that the Aveda place at The Avenues at West Cobb was just a store. They have a whole salon and spa behind it. I knew Aveda had a good reputation so I called and made an appointment. It took a few days to get in but that didn't bother me. My worst haircuts were from people who were available when I walked in someplace without an appointment. I saw Kelly and for the first time in years, I feel like my mane has been tamed. The best part is I can do it myself. She was as much a coach as a hair stylist. I looked around a lot and they seem like a happy group of people. I only saw pretty hair-nothing crazy or 'out of the box' on the staff or their clients. I'm so happy, I want to tell everyone I know! Oh, and it smells so good in there--almost delicious!
Extremely Disappointed!!! – I am a world traveler and never in my life have I been treated with such lack of respect. It was my Bachelorette Party and we were out to have a good time. From the moment we walked in we were treated horribly. The hostess was extremely rude. The waiter was slow with service, and had a bad attitude. At one point my friend asked for more water and he said "You have some in your glass but I will get you more if you want." At the end of the meal I was so disappointed that I asked for the manager (something I never do) and she did not even seem the slightest bit concerned about our poor experience. All we wanted was an apology, something we never got. I was so extremely upset I even spoke to the owner of the restaurant. She blamed me for letting their poor service and attitude ruin my night. I have never been so angry and disappointed in a restaurant in my entire life. And to top it all of the food is not even worth the price you pay for it. Do yourself a favor and eat at the many other restaurants in Seattle that have better food, a better attitude, and much much better service!
