Fun, exciting menu and setting, service rocks. – Tried it, loved it, can't wait to go back. After 1st reading about Sazerac on City Search, I went with my sisters for my birthday. We all loved ordering from the unusual menu choices, and the setting was fun, and casual even though we were dressed for the 5th Ave. theater (which was just down the street). The service was super friendly and you could tell the employees liked the food and were happy to suggest.
Worst service EVER! – A group of friends and I went out for happy hour cocktails. It was very busy so we forgave the lengthy wait and brusque attitude when we were finally acknowledged. When our drinks did arrive most were incorrect. When I had asked to have my drink re-mixed the server argued with me saying that it was correct. I had to explain that I shouldn't taste citrus or see citrus pulp floating in a dry gin martini with an olive (My guess was that the bartender in her haste had not rinsed the shaker after the previous cocktail). My friend had ordered one of their signature cocktails which was completely wrong, she asked for a plain house martini. When the bill arrived she had been charged for the more expensive drink. When we brought this error to the server's attention she snidely commented that there was only a 50 cent difference. Unfortunately for her this comment resulted in a huge difference in her tip. Three of the five of us had worked through college in the industry and are known amongst our friends as huge tippers. This is the first time we've ever stiffed a server.
We ended up leaveing and going to the cute Thai place across the street for great cocktails and amazing service.
Who was more bored? – We went in just for dessert. We think that the bartender would have rather not had us there. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. He totally ignored us. Take the order and leave. Bring the food and leave. Bring the check and leave. Nice work dude, your mama must be proud. Uninspired, Tired food, lame service...
Disappointed by the bland food and overpriced drinks – I've been wanting to try Sazerac for years and tonight I was finally given the opportunity. I wish I could get the last 90 minutes of my life back. The experience of sipping grossly over priced cocktails ($12 for the cucumber sensation? Come on.) amid a lavishly pallid decor was only outdone by the drab flavors of the blue marlin fish of the day dish. Avoid this dish if possible.
Perfectly nice service, but I unfortunately can't recommend Sazerac. My taste buds were bored to tears.
fantastic meals - great – Everything was perfect from the ease of making a reservation online to the last morsel!
If you are looking for something a bit different, but do not wish to sacrifice flavor or service I strongly recommend you check out this Gem!

The menu is not broken down into the familiar appetizers and entrees but rather lets you build your own meal based on how much you want of what. Like a wonderful piece of Jazz it becomes a composition unique to the individual.
My dining partner enjoyed a single oyster (you can order just the number you want) and we shared the wedge of oozing St. Andre brie from the Tasty Little Morsel's portion of the menu. My partner then indulged in a demitasse (more like a bowl at nearly any other venue!)
as a main course I had the ribs with sweet potato fries and my partner had the catfish. We were both wonderfully pleased with our meals and might have let the other have a taste if we werent feeling so selfish!
All of this combined with a very nice bottle of wine for just about $100 was a real bargin for downtown Seattle... and yet, we never once felt that it was anything but the best!
I strongly recommend that you give this wonderful place a try!
Good for breakfast, that's about it. – I'm not one for "pretty food". I could care less how it looks as long as it's manageable and yummy. This place focuses too much on presentation and not enough on taste. Also, I'm 5 feet tall and 100lbs - after my lunches there, I can usually still eat a burger (i.e. not enough of the pretty food). Tried breakfast once, it's good. If you must go, do breakfast. Service was good, place is very pretty/hip/modern, but darn it the food is a thumbs down.
something different from typical northwest cuisine – Four of us went to Sazerac after finding it on the 25 for 25 list of restaurants. We wanted a nice meal in a somewhat casual setting that allowed for us to do "family style" and share various dishes. The wait staff was busy but great and very supportive of our sharing.
In all the food was good, not great. The Focaccia pre dinner was supposedly "homemade" but wasn't exactly tasty. They would have been better off not providing any bread with the meal.
The app of triple cream cheese and toasted butttered bread was simple yet delicious and the hush puppies were awesome. Who would have though hush puppies and molasses would go well together?? We feared the puppies would be dry, but they were AWESOME!!!
The crab cakes were okay. The hint of spice was great, the fried green tomatoe was delicious, the combo not our favorite. The cakes were missing something. Probably crab is my guess.
The gumbo was cold but tasty. Nothing too out of the ordinary or fabulous to make me order it again.
We shared the catfish, the "funky pizza: ham and sage", and the pork ribs. Order the catfish, it's amazing. The funky pizza had amazing ham and the combo of the cheese blend, sage, and salty fresh ham was incredible. Finally, the ribs were nicely plated and the sweet potatoe fries along side were devoured. The meat was nice and also devoured.
Finally, dessert. There was only one ooey gooey chocolate cake left (which is the main reason we chose the restaurant) and we were all very disappointed. To make up for the loss, the chef added some free extra chewy molasses cookies (superb!) and berries along side. We also got the coffee ice cream. It was by far the best coffee ice cream I've ever had and tasted like coffee, imagine that!
In all, Sazerac was great. Some stuff a bit bland for me, but the setting is comfortable and very open, the busy waitstaff was kind and the fod was not at all typical to seattle.
Bad service, cold foot, long wait – My wife and I visited Saerac for the 25 for $25 dinner. The restaurant was supposed to have valet parking, but their lot was full, so we had to drive around looking for a spot. Once inside, we were seated promptly, but it took us a little longer to order than we would have liked. No big deal, though, thus far.
For my starter, I ordered the Caesar Salad with Garlic Crostini. The salad was ok, but was a little on the bland side. The crostini had an incredibly depressing looking anchovy on top that looked like it came straight from a can. Don't get me wrong, the anchovy was good, it just reminded me of the 'Where's the Beef?' commericals of the 1980s. Now came the wait...
We waited for at least an hour to get our entrees. In the interim, our waitress came over and asked if we needed anything. We said we would like more water. The waitress kept fluttering by, giving our table a quick glance now and again. Ten to fifteen mintues later, I had to flag down someone to give us the water we had asked for. When we finally got our entrees, my wife's butternut squash ravioli was cold. When the waitress came by to ask us if everything was ok, we just looked at each other for a few long seconds and said yes. We were both afraid that if we returned the dish, we might have to wait another hour to get it back. I had the catfish, which was the highlight of the dinner. The lemon whipped potatoes and accompanying sauce were great, and, luckily, warm. We finished the dinner off with gooey chocolate cakes, which were pretty good. The service got a bit better at the end, but the combination of no available parking, bad initial service, no water refills without pestering the staff (some of whom were just standing around drying glasses or talking), and one cold dinner led me to rate Sazerac with a 3. The only saving grace was that the food was pretty tasty. I doubt if I will return, but, if I do, it will be for that reason alone.
Very Good, interesting food.....different than any other place in town...and worth the experience! – I've always had good food and a fun time at this jovial and creative food joint. You'll get different fare than the usual PNW menu items found in most other restaurants of this price range and trendiness. I like their 'Southern/Cajun" flavors and they really make an effort to make the usual ingredients (clams, crab cakes, polenta/grits, salmon, sausage, pizza, ice cream)...alot more inventively prepared...and all I've had there has been tasty, a good value and beautifully presented!
Abrupt Waiter and Expensive Bar – This place has potential. A group of girlfriends went out for a birthday celebration and feasted on the 25 for $25 menu. I thought the food was good and everyone enjoyed their dinners (the gumbo, mushroom fricassee, butternut squash ravioli, catfish, chocolate cake and sorbets were all given the thumbs up). The cocktails here are rather expensive (can't even get the cheap house stuff if you wanted) - made me feel like I was dining in New York City instead of Seattle. But we are a young group so maybe older diners with larger salaries can afford multiple glasses of $8 wine. The waiter really diminished our dining experience. He was obviously irritated that we were ordering off the 25 for $25 menu and rushed us through our ordering. If anyone had questions or was a little indecisive he would answer curtly and move on to the next order as fast as possible. I understand it's the dinner rush but at least give me a minute to decide what I want to eat! This restaurant is pretty small but the tables aren't crammed in to fit more so you're not bumping up against your fellow diners. I did see some people being seated in the bar area for dinner which I imagine left a lot to be desired with regards to atmosphere. I would come back but probably on an off hour so I don't have to bother with over-worked waiters.
