There's art inside this building, outside the building, and now ON the building. There's no escaping the great work displayed at SAM (whether it's from the old-timey Masters or the the 21st century hot shots). And, of course, first Thursday's of the month are always a popular (and free) way to check it all out.
Thursdays are the get-in-for-free day, while kids are always gratis. A great venue, go for an event and sight-see while you're there!
SAM hosts an expansive permanent collection and blockbuster exhibits. I favor contemporary art but the African and porcelain galleries are decidely worth a visit.
The SAM has a great permanent exhibit which grows with new acquisitions frequently. Additionally they have fantastic special exhibits such as Picasso, Elles from the Pompidou, etc.
Stupid, overpriced and Ugly Joint – What a looser building. Kind of like the stupid Seattle Library, ugly, ugly, ugly.
We really wasted our money on that junk hole. The people with large egos sure enjoy the SAM but for my money, grab a hydro foil to Victoria and spend the day at the Provincial Museum.
A worthy permanent collection provides respite from the masses attracted to touring exhibits. – The Preview
More than 24,000 objects are housed within the four-story glass, steel, terra cotta and marble building--the product of Robert Venturi's original $64 million design and Allied Works' $86 million expansion. Enthusiastic throngs flock to blockbuster exhibitions; but the expanded permanent collection should not be missed, especially the Native American, African and American art galleries. The museum's first two floors are dedicated to public space, offering computers, magazines, games and more
