Great Hair -- Great Salon -- Great People – I had the best experience at this gem of a salon. It was my first visit here and everyone was so sweet from the moment I walked in the door. They took my coat, made me tea and took me back for a consultation. Deanna did my hair. She gave me the pros and cons of what I wanted so we decided on something a little different to better suite my skin tone and face shape. The results are simply amazing! I love it, it is so beautiful and it totally brings out my eyes.
We laughed and chatted throughout the whole appointment. I found her to be witty and sweet. After, I met my husband for lunch at this great little spot called Table 219. (Deanna suggested). A oerfect afternoon.
Specializes In: Circa 1990 Tim Burton? – I did not receive my desired haircut from Studio 229's DeAnna. I think it was more or less a lack of a communication. When I said “Just a trim, keep the length, nothing drastic,” I believe she interpreted that as, “Do whatever you want, cut it short, I don't care what my hair looks like at all.” I should have been more clear as to my expectations; I should have brought reference material and really spelled it out for her. So I take partial responsibility for the unwanted style of haircut that was several inches shorter than I'd agreed to.
But what I will not take responsibility for is her lack of skill as a hairstylist, as displayed by my blunt, unblended layers with one side visibly shorter than the other. These errors would have been apparent at the salon had she actually styled and dried my naturally curly hair, rather than just send me on my unmerry way with a head full of half wet curls. It wasn't until hours later that my hair dried completely to resemble some sort of new age mullet. It's the worst haircut I've ever, ever had. The work reminiscent of a drunken Edward Scissorhands. I would go have it corrected somewhere else but I don't want to risk another incompetent hairdresser making it look even worse. I'm afraid my only recourse is to let it grow out under the modest shelter of a hat.
Owner was sooo loud – The owner was talking so loud on the phone and to the gal that was cutting my hair that I could not even think. While I was having my hair washed she stood over me and talked to my hair dresser about the schedule, advertising, the shipment that just came in. I wanted to relax and enjoy myself but she made it impossible!
Wonderful Services & People – I stopped going to Gene Juarez after nearly 3 years because of the great hair cut and color I get at Studio 229! DeAnna is amazing with hair. She is honest and wants to cut your hair with your face, hair texture & lifestyle in mind.
I'm a convert forever!
P.S. Kurt does a tremendously fabulous facial. The neck massage and peacefulness is unmatched.
Cool salon, hot hair. – I was in desperate need of new hair so I took a friend's advice and saw Marissa at studio 229. She was awesome and gave me a hip new haircut with some soft highlights to compliment the whole thing. I love it. It's soft and pretty but still hip and kinda funky, exactly what I was looking for.
The salon itself is an awesome space with windows that look over Broadway, art from local artists on the walls, and cool music playing in the background. The whole experience was great. I'm going back for my hair and will try their facials also!
Awesome hair cut and color – I visited Studio 229 last Saturday for my 4th time to get my haircut and color. I have had an awesome experience every time I have gone. My first time there I was so impressed with the wonderful atmosphere and the upscale look and on top of that they have the best customer service I have experienced in a long time. This has continued to be the case every time I have been there which in my experience is very hard to find. Since my first time there they have added a full service spa which is great because now I go for my hair cut, color and I get to treat myself with a nice relaxing facial!
Stop the fake reviews ! – The salon is not horrible, but it is not what is expected once you get there. The salon is in desperate need of a makeover. It is in poor repair and does not seem sanitary. I finally had to stop going there. Everyone is nice but nice doesn't cut it. The staff do not have the experience or up to date techniques and training. I suspect that the reviews that you see are 85% written by the staff themselves or given to pals to post and written by the staff. Marketing is one thing but please deliver what you claim you can offer and Salon 229 just falls incredibly short of that.
I am so sorry that you had a bad experience. I am not sure what caused you to write this review for we just did a remodel 3 and a half years ago and nothing is in need of repair for most things are new. My staff all has advanced training and at least three years experience and we come to work early every day to clean. I've been complimented many times on how clean the salon is. We have never done "our own reviews" and we strive to give all of our customers the best customer service possible. Again, I apologize for any discomfort you may have experienced while visiting Studio 229.
Bless you Marissa! I'm a client for life!! – If you are looking for a salon with stylists who actually know what they are doing look no further! DeAnna, the owner, is VERY particular regarding who she hires to work for her. It took her 5 months of searching for a new stylist before she found and hired Marissa. Thank you DeAnna for your commitment to excellence!!
Studio 229 is warm, charming and the staff makes you feel as if you are a long time friend. I was beside myself from trying one salon after another, paying a fortune for hair color/foils and cuts only to be bitterly disappointed and hating my hair...especially the color! Good fortune led me to Studio 229 and into the amazing hands of Marissa. Marissa spent a long time actually LISTENING to what I was looking for regarding both color and the cut I wanted. I came to her with several years of having BAD, BAD color treatments. She went over several different color options with me, we came to an agreement, I "held my breath" and off she went. Marissa spent over 3 GREULING hours foiling tiny strands of my hair, using 2 different colors, in order to break up the solid dark grow-out I had from allowing someone else to slap one color of something considered to be blonde on my hair. Once Marissa was done and turned me around to see the final outcome I had all I could not to cry estatic tears of joy! The transformation was nothing short of a miracle and for the first time in years I truly felt beautiful! Oh, and the cut she gave me...simply amazing! Never have I received so many compliments on my hair...both the color and the cut! I'm one happy girl for certain!
Studio 229 - Capital Hill's Great Hair Place! – I am soooo glad I came to Studio 229, couple of my friends had come here and recommended me to go get myself a new hair cut and some 'fab' color - to go see 'Ashley'. Made an appointment with 'Ashley' and I was so happy that my friends kept pushing me to go. I've had some bad hair experiences but Ashley made them all go away! Ashley was great, we talked about hair and what I wanted, and what would look good on me. Let me tell you, the experience was awesome! Ashley treated me like a queen, and she gave a great cut and fabulous color!!!!! I am soooo happy - everywhere I go I get compliments on how great my hair looks!!
I recommend Studio 229 to all my friends and to anyone who wants great hair, great salon experiences and to feel beautiful - it's a great place to go, and Ashley is one of the best hair stylist/colorist I've ever been to!
Treat yourself to a great place and experience :)
Awesome Hair Salon!!! – I knew I was taking a risk when I walked in off of the street (I don't usually do that kind of thing) but right away I felt comfortable. The salon was so inviting and warm and I was greeted so pleasantly and promptly even though everyone was busy. I had to make an appointment for a couple of days later where Deana was able to give me the most awesome foil and hair cut.
Not only did she take the time to consult with me about my color for over 20 minutes, she also talked to me about how the hair cut could be change to better suite my face shape, my hair growth pattern and show off my new color . Just when I thought it couldn't get any better she gave me great styling tips. She showed me how versatile my new hair cut could be. Now guess what? Two days later--I can fix my hair the same way she did! I will definately be back.
