Seattle >Food & Dining > Yanni's
Something right out of MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING!. This was my first try at Greek in Seattle and I loved it. I had to go 2 times a week for 3 weeks until I moved away. Let's see...the Avgalemeno Soup is great! The Horatiki Salad is fresh and flavorful. The special menu items you can only find there because its family owned and operated are outstanding. LOVE IT!
Best Greek but be prepared for a leisurely dinner.
I have eaten at Yanni's several times and the food has been excellent every time. This is truly a "family" restaurant (just like in the movie Big fat Greek wedding). I remember when I was brought the wrong dish and was told "I'll have my dad make you up something else".
I haven't had a chance to try everything on the menu and I tend to stick to the things that I know I like. My favorite appetizer is Fasolia Yagentes (giant Greek beans). These are like big lima beans and I love them -- served with warm pita bread.
The chicken souvlaka is very tasty; nicely cooked meat, not overly spiced.
The spanikopita is wonderful; and as someone else said the potatoes have a lemony flavor and you look forward to them.
Everything is prepared to order and as others have stated, the service can be slow.
If you give yourself a couple of hours for a nice leisurely dinner then I'm sure that you'll really enjoy it. If you're in a hurry you're going to be frustrated and disappointed.
The Greeks come together to eat and they don't rush through their meals; in true greek style this restaurant reflects that.
They often have special performances on Saturday night.
Great Neighborhood Place ~ Highly Recommended!. I live in the neighborhood and head for Yanni's at least once a week. The service is always exceptionally friendly, and the food is always phenomenal! The Chicken Skaras is just wonderful, nicely flavored and juicy. The potatoes that come with the dish have a terrific lemony flavor to them ~ undescribable, but I always look forward to them! Their chicken, lemon and rice soup is one of my stand-bys, I always enjoy the fresh flavors. Highly recommended!!!!!!!
great taste of greece. Wondeful experience! We went on a Saturday with out reservations and had to wait for our table but it was truley worth the wait. We lucked out and picked the night when they had the belly dancer, wow what fun.....the whole restaurant was dancing! We started off with the Kalamari appetizer and Feta Fournou and we were glad we did, our meal took sometime to get to our table. Our wait person was very attentive and informed us everything was fresh and made to order, somethings are worth the wait and this meal was fantastic. My husband had the Combination Plater and I had the Chicken Tavernas, we had so much food to take home but we still had to have desert.....the Galaktoboureko was to die for. We cannot wait to go with a group of friends.
User review by karinaw. I've been to Yanni's probably 5 or 6 times, and it's true, the service is very friendly but EXTREMELY slow! I usually go in a group of 3 or 4 and although I've never had to wait for a table, it usually takes 1.5-2 hours to get out of there. BUT, the food is so amazing that I just don't care how long it takes. The Chicken Krasati is my favorite dish, and we usually get the Spanikopita/Tyropitakia for an appetizer. It's definitely my favorite restaurant and I will be going back as often as possible. If you have the time, it's a great place to eat!
Bad service. I've only been there once, but I won't go again. I was part of a group of 8, we arrived seperately and only the first two were ever given menus (despite asking for them repeatedly). We finally stole them from the stack with the hostess. Each course took almost an hour before it was served. It was probably some of the worst service I've ever had but they still added an eighteen percent tip to the bill.
Great Neighborhood Spot. Yanni's is exactly what a neighborhood restaurant should be: friendly, homey, unpretentious, and delicious. If you live within a block of the restaurant you can smell the garlic chicken spit roasting every evening and it's very difficult to refuse. Try to flaky and flavorful spanikopita, the huge portions of authentic gyros, or of course, the succulent garlic chicken, packed with melt in your mouth flavor. Even if you don't live nearby, take a trip and try it out. I garuntee you'll consider moving closer to Greenwood.
