ugh.
This place is very close to my work and I LOVE soup, so I wanted to like it. My first experience with the Popeye spinach soup was OK. It was a little thick,, but tasty. However, every subsequent experience has been worst than the last.
It seems the chef has only three main broths that he uses as the basis for all his soups and consequently the same two flavors keep popping in every one. The clam chowder is like the popeyes. There is also a thin layer of grease in every single soup and most recently, it seemed they had stretched their beef stew into a second day's worth of soup by adding chunks of pork!!
A colleage and I decided to give it one more try and we both ended up being slightly sickened. She actually ended up vomiting and had to leave work early.
Very distressing.
In addition, they have an off leash, large dog in the restaurant at all times that, while well-behaved, doesn't smell that clean and is a bit worrisome to people who have dog issues.
I've seen the owner pet the dog and eat with her then appear back in the kitchen without washing his hands or putting on gloves.
That was enough for me. :((
Another awful service experience for average soup.. Be sure you pick the correct line to get your lunch (the line divides into two lines once you reach the counter) or you will be waiting 15 minutes to get an average tasting cup of soup while watching folks who where originally 5 and 6 people behind you get service and food.
quick decent lunch. If you just want a decent sandwich, which won't make you sick, this place will do. Can't say the food/soup is out of this world, but if you only have 30 minutes and in a hurry by yourself... Sometimes, you just eat to fill. It's not that bad.
The Pioneer Square business crowd heads here for warm, fresh soup and sandwiches..
In Short
This cozy lunch spot draws crowds daily. Savvy diners arrive before or after the noon rush. Straightforward sandwiches are prepared on deli bread or on a bagel. The deli's specialty is the soup. Eight varieties are offered daily, from the chicken and sausage gumbo to the vegetable barley, each served with a bread stick for dipping.
Big fan!. Enjoy this lunch spot in Pioneer Square. Suggestions for ordering: clam chowder is very good; the cream cheese sandwich is great; and the ceasar salad is wonderful. Friendly staff in a clean atmosphere. Warning- the lunch rush can create a wait so be prepared.
Walk on by, nothin to see here folks.
I've only been in the pioneer square area for a couple months. I'm less than a block away from Soup Daddy's, the convenience has unfortunately inspired me to try it many times. Today was my fourth and final time. Everytime I've been in there the service is short, bordering on rude, as though I'm intruding. The sandwiches were mediocre, the soup is disappointing and the breakfast sandwich was fresh out of the microwave.
There is a myriad of good restaurants with in a 2 block radius of this joint, so keep on walking and find a smile instead of the frown you'll leave this place with.
ambitious, but....
Soup Daddy really tries to bring a wide daily selection to the table. Some things are good, but many of them taste the same. There is one, unidentifiable spice that appears to be in almost all of the soups and daily specials that seems highly unnecessary. The food is also very rich, which can be a bit much for lunchtime fare. Staff is pleasant and accomodating and clearly enjoy their jobs.
A good standby, but could be better with some menu modifications.
Ok, not great.. Soup Daddy Soups is good enough for a cheap workaday lunch, but it's nothing to go out of your way for. There's a wide variety of soups, but they are only ok, not great. Their texture and taste suggests they've been made with cornstarch, which is not necessary for most soups and detracts from many soups that would otherwise have an interesting texture. Instead, they're a little bit slimy. I had the peanut curry soup, and I could barely taste any peanut flavor.
Good cheap lunch. A good cheap lunch if you're hungry. If you want ambiance or kiss-ass waitstaff, go elsewhere.
Best Club Sandwitch!!!. Love the soups, but the best is the club sandwitch, you must try it.
