Divinely rich Indian cuisine at divinely low prices on the edge of the U-District. – The Scene
Plain and comfortable, the simple cinderblock-and-glass room has two sources of visual charm: the elaborately worked tapestries and the large windows facing the busy community center. Tables are covered with pale linens and glass tops; the spacing is well-designed for privacy, even during busy hours. Service is consistently friendly and efficient.
The assorted snack plate brings a little bit of everything good from the appetizer section, and is available in a vegetarian variation--vegetable pakoras are particularly crispy and good. Best are the sumptuous dishes like chicken tikka masala and coconut lamb with lushly complex sauces. Naan--baked on the outside of the tandoor--is thin, with crispy bubbles just waiting to sop up any extra sauce. Refresh with a warm, not-too-sweet chai or cooling, sweet yogurt lassi.
One of the best daily buffets – Tandoor has easily one of the best daily lunch buffets in the city; the butter chicken is not to be missed. Unlike other buffets, they make your naan fresh to order when you arrive. Parking is very difficult, but worth the effort. The palak paneer is perfect and wide array of salads makes a nice addition. The restaurant looks tiny, but there's a large room in the back for big groups.
Just like mom used to make. – The food here is fantastic. Especailly the Chicken Vinbdalu (sp) and Eggplant Bharta. Try all the different breads as well.
Tandoor is owned and run by a family and they treat their customers like their children. Even my friend from India said it was just like his mom used to make.
Note, if you like spice, make a point to emphasize HOT!
Mmmmm.....yummy! – This place is absolutely excellent - you owe it to yourself to try the pompadon w/ the spicy lime pickle - the coconut shrimp entree is EXCELLENT - the rice is fluffy and light - just right.....and my favorite is the rice pudding dessert - and they DELIVER!!!! (not to mention send out coupons!)
Good Deal!! – They have good lunch beffet eveyday with reasonable price. On top of that, for lamb lovers, hey have all-you-can-eat lamb dish for the beffet on Fridays. What a good deal!!
yummy...bring a group – Our party of nine sat in the back room with the lazy susan table. This simple place has delicious food and family service. Grandma hangs around here too. We enjoyed appetizers, butter Chicken, dal, eggplant bharta, prawns and naan and spun around the lazysusan and had a great time.
Very tasty food. No skimping on the rice either. Beer/wine was CHEAP. If you want really super spicy you'll have to beg. I really recommend at least four people so you can try lots of different things. It was a good meal.
