I love this place!!!!!!!!. No masks here! The galway is what it is and I love it just the way it is! You go there get your drink on and its fun. They got good eats and cheap drinks, and one HOTT HOTT bartender/cook! Oh boy Dan!
Sample some superior bar food while taking in a show at this U-District favorite..
This tiny storefront pub on University Way (the Ave, to locals) could easily be missed. But once inside this Irish gem of a bar, the salty warm smell of hamburgers grilling combined with the welcome greeting from a friendly bartender may have you wondering why it took you so long to stop in.
A simple, laid-back atmosphere, where regulars call the cooks by name. The bar nosh here is top notch too, with hot wings, chicken strips, burgers served with delicious fries, and a variety of soups and chowders. Of course, as any Irish pub worth its salt should, Galway Arms pours a mighty fine, creamy Guinness.
It would be nice to get service.. I've gone here a few times, and each time has gotten progressively worse. The food is wonderful, but the service has been lackluster to poor. We've typically gone on Fridays during happy hour right after work. On the next to last occasion we went, we had trouble getting any service even though it wasn't that busy. Just to pay our bill so we could leave, we had to corner our waitress at the bar and give her our money there. On the last occasion, we were outright ignored. Even though it wasn't notably busy, we waited 15-20 minutes with the waitress passing back and forth past our table, never once stopping to provide a menu or take orders or anything. We ended up just getting up and leaving for the Irish place across the street.
Best pub I've been to. I can honestly say that the Galway Arms is by far the best pub I've visited. Their staff actually make you feel welcome, not an inconvenience like we've all become so accustomed to. A very friendly atmosphere, and the type of experience you imagine as a kid, and see on TV. A place you can some have a few pints(20 oz ones, at that), share a few stories, and talk with complete strangers like you've known each other for years. With my first visit, I already feel like I've made a handful of new friends.
How did I miss this place for so long??. The ONLY Irish pub in the city that actually feels like the genuine thing. Plus good music and the best bartender I've had in a long time... Finally, a low-key good time close to home.
