Lovely. – I love going here even though I rarely buy anything. Their garments are a bit over priced and it is difficult to find sizes because they are not organized very well.
I am a shopper who likes help and input from a sales person. I rarely go shopping just to shop so I know what I want when I do go and I normally do not get any help from the sales persons at Red Light, even when I am looking for something particular. Despite these cons, the place is really fun to get lost in and to grab a cute new pair of sunglasses every once in awhile.
Horrible in every way – I first visited this place in the mid-late 90s. The people who worked there were plastic and rude. It smelled bad. The prices were ok, but it was like everyone had a Courtney-Love attitude with their noses in the air. The tiny woman who ran the place was cute but arrogant to the extreme, and plastic like you can't imagine. It felt like a circus with that woman trying to get attention in any way possible, even if it meant lighting her own mother on fire in front of the place and holding a barbeque. I never went back because of it.
depends on who's working – usually i have a really good experience there, but one day i went in during the afternoon and was shocked at how rude one of the workers was to me.
i was the only person in the store trying on clothes, and when i was done, i was looking for the place where you hang unwanted items. the guy who had opened the dressing room for me looked at me and said "come on, you wanna use your words?" and took the clothes from me and put the clothes back into the dressing room. i said, "oh no, i already tried them on," and he looked all exasperated and said in this really condescending tone, "well, next time, use your words, i can't tell what you're thinking."
i was shocked that someone could be so rude and i left almost in tears. i mean, maybe i was the millionth person to stand in that area looking for the unwanted clothing section and that annoyed him for some reason, but honestly, i was the only person in the store and i'm pretty sure it's in his job description to assist customers (although, i didn't even need assistance).
A store full of campy, used and new vintage clothing create unlimited possibilities for outrageousness. – In Short
This funky addition to the U-District fashion scene buys and sells cheap. The beneficiaries of this low-end practice are clientele who don't want to dump a ton of cash on a one-night getup. Red Light's sections are tidily and logically organized and easy to navigate--women's dresses are sorted chronologically or by genre ("1930s" or "Hawaiian"). From 1920s Bakelite jewelry to 1980s soccer shirts, true vintage sticklers and cheap-deal hunters alike will find something.
